As Yellowjackets fans eagerly await Season 3, Showtime has been hit with a lawsuit claiming the idea for the Emmy-nominated series was stolen from the 2015 Shyam Madiraju-helmed survival thriller Eden.
Filed Nov. 14 in New York federal court, the copyright infringement lawsuit also names Lionsgate and show creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, alleging that Yellowjackets “borrows heavily from Eden to the point at which they are substantially similar.”
“Comparing the Film to the Show’s plots, setting, mood, pace, stories, characters, sequence of events, themes, and scene/dialogue similarities, demonstrates that the two works, in most respects, are identical,” reads the complaint. “These substantially, strikingly similar elements leave little doubt that most substantive elements of Yellowjackets are copied from Eden.”
The lawsuit — which cites common themes, plot points, setting, characters, mood and pacing — seeks unspecified damages and an injunction barring Showtime and the other defendants from further exploiting the series.

A lawsuit has been filed that alleges Showtime and Lionsgate's hit television series Yellowjackets ripped off the 2015 film Eden. The complaint says that the two works are "in most respects... identical."
According to Entertainment Weekly, a complaint was filed in California federal court on Friday by plaintiff Eden Film Production LLC claiming that Showtime's Yellowjackets is "substantially similar" to the Eden film and has violated its copyright enough to merit litigation. Showtime, Lionsgate, Yellowjacket series creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and two production companies were named in the complaint as defendants.

Perhaps the most notable thing about Eden is how unremarkable it all feels. Don't get me wrong; this is a competently made thriller with some surprising and suspenseful moments, but it feels bogged down by a piecemeal script and cliché-driven characters. Despite some strong performances, Shyam Madiraju's film ends up feeling like a diluted blend of other movies. The result might just please the fan of testosterone-driven machismo, angry shouting and occasional punch-ups, but has little to offer a viewer searching for something new and interesting in the survival genre.

Aniston will play an acerbic woman named Claire who becomes fascinated by the suicide of Nina, a woman in her chronic pain support group. As she uncovers the details of Nina’s suicide and develops a poignant relationship with Nina’s husband, Claire also grapples with her own very raw personal tragedy.
