With a general cooling off in superhero projects across the industry, Marvel isn’t rushing things on some big titles like the “Blade” reboot or a new “Deadpool” movie. But inside Marvel Studios, there’s real excitement building around Ryan Coogler’s upcoming “Black Panther 3.”

While Blade continues to stall in development hell and Deadpool 4 hasn’t yet made it past the planning stage, Marvel Studios is placing its bets on a more promising return to Wakanda. According to a new report from Variety, Black Panther 3isn't just officially moving forward, but has emerged as a priority project for the studio, and will be one of the first to launch post-Secret Wars alongside X-Men — with Ryan Coogler back at the helm and Denzel Washington confirmed to join the cast. It's full steam ahead.

Coogler offered a brief but definitive update at the Ironheart world premiere last month, the Disney+ series he executive produced. Asked where he’s at with Black Panther 3, Coogler simply said, “Working. We’re working.” No bells, no whistles — just a clear sign that the sequel is in motion while other Marvel titles remain in neutral.

That statement alone carries weight.

But according to the Russo Brothers, there was one Avenger who read the entire screenplay. And no, it wasn’t Benedict Cumberbatch or Chris Hemsworth. Read on to find out which Marvel star earned that privilege.

The Only Avenger Who Read The Full Avengers: Endgame Script

That Marvel star is none other than Robert Downey Jr., who played the charismatic superhero Iron Man in the Avengers film series.

As promised last year by Disney CEO Bob Iger, Marvel Studios has scaled back to only 2-3 feature film releases each year, and with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” in theaters, that’s it for the 2025 lineup. So, what’s left between now and Dec. 26, 2026, when Marvel’s next major “Avengers” film comes out? Not much.

“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is the third Marvel Cinematic Universe film of 2025, following “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts*.” Meanwhile on Disney+, Season 1 of “Daredevil: Born Again” wrapped up in April, “Ironheart” streamed in June, and only a few more MCU TV shows are coming before the end of next year.

With this reduced slate, how will “Avengers: Doomsday” not only bring back a ton of characters, but set it all up to work story-wise? Obviously, it’s hard to say, other than knowing “Fantastic Four” set up Doctor Doom, their next major villain.

Although Marvel Studios did not make a presentation in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con this year, Gallery Books held a presentation of Super Visible: The Story of the Women of Marvel Comics Sunday afternoon in a return to the roots of the convention: fan and community engagement.

Written by Beautiful Creatures author Margaret Stohl, former Marvel Entertainment editor Jeanine Schaefer and producer and Women of Marvel podcast host Judith Stephens, the book delves into the experiences of women behind Marvel Entertainment — from the early days of the comics to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“We talked to some of the movie people that had come into earlier chapters, but we really had to focus less on Marvel Studios by the end. This book was done with permission of Marvel, and Marvel Entertainment was so cool about it,” Stohl told Deadline on Saturday morning. “There also would have been five more years of an approval process.

The Eyes of Wakanda trailer reveals Marvel's long-awaited Black Panther spinoff. Ryan Coogler is officially working on Black Panther 3. This was confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige during a recent press event for the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps movie.

Feige said that Coogler is now focused on the next Black Panther film. He also hinted that they already know when the film will fit into the Marvel timeline, but no release date has been announced yet.

Feige joked about it saying, “We know [when on the timeline it is], and if he’s telling you he doesn’t, that’s perfect.”

Talks about a third Black Panther movie actually started a while ago. Back in November 2022, Coogler and Feige were already discussing the idea. Then in January 2023, Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, said that everyone needed a little break before jumping into another film.
