Natalie Shirinian is a multifaceted filmmaker known for her work as an award winning director, writer, producer, and actress. She is known for her intimate, dramatic storytelling across narrative, documentary, and conceptual genres.
She co-founded Not All Films with her wife, Elizabeth Baudouin, producing acclaimed works like Interior Motives (2017), Parev Mama (2020), and Breakup Text (2023), which she starred in and executive produced alongside Academy Award-winning producer David Dinerstein (Summer of Soul).
Most recently, the duo produced the short documentary ALOK, featuring Alok Vaid-Menon, directed by Alex Hedison, and executive produced by Jodie Foster. The film premiered at multiple national and international Academy Award qualifying festivals including the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, was one of only three short films to screen at Telluride, and was selected to be part of the Sundance 2024 shorts tour.
Beyond the screen, Shirinian and Baudouin have been the face of major industry campaigns, featured in Vogue, InStyle's "Badass Women" issue, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Times, MovieMaker, T Magazine, AnOther, and Dazed, and Shirinian herself has contributed to PAPER, and Vogue.
Shirinian made her directing debut in 2017 with her multiple award winning documentary film, Interior Motives, the first ever documentary exploring the interconnectedness of fashion and interior design. The film features the likes of Michéle Lamy, Rick Owens, Tommy Hilfiger, Deborah Needleman, and Maria Cornejo, and had multiple sold out shows at NeueHouse during FRIEZE Los Angeles, 2020, won Best Short Documentary at the Berlin Short Film Festival, and was inducted into the permanent library of the prominent Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
While she has primarily focused on directing and producing, she has also taken on acting roles in her projects. During the 2020 COVID pandemic, Shirinian wrote, directed, and starred in the short film Parev Mama (also known as Hello Mother). The film delves into themes of cultural identity and personal acceptance within an Armenian family. Parev Mama received multiple accolades, including the Parajanov Institute Award for Best Director, the Audience Award at the 2022 Academy Award-qualifying HollyShorts Film Festival, Best Short Film at the Big Apple Film Festival and Screenplay Competition, and the Audience Award at the Honolulu Film Festival. It was also selected for the prestigious New Filmmakers Los Angeles showcase in partnership with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The film is now available to stream on Apple/iTunes.
In 2023, she starred in Elizabeth Baudouin's debut short film Breakup Text and served as an executive producer alongside Academy and BAFTA Award-winning producer David Dinerstein. The film, recognized for its compelling storytelling, was an Official Selection at the Academy Award-qualifying Woodstock Film Festival and Provincetown International Film Festival, as well as the prestigious SCAD Film Festival. Breakup Text also gained recognition on NOWNESS, the renowned global video platform celebrated for its visually striking and artistically driven storytelling. The film is currently in discussions for distribution.
She is currently in pre-production on a number of film projects, including her debut feature film, Ponchik, which she wrote and will direct, starring and executive produced by Angela Sarafyan. The film explores themes of identity, family, and resilience, bringing her distinct storytelling voice to the big screen. At the same time, she is in post-production on Room of the Absolute, a powerful documentary chronicling an artist's journey through war-torn Ukraine. Co-directed with Elizabeth Baudouin and edited by Jocelyn Chaput-known for her work on the Academy Award-nominated documentary Fire of Love-the film captures the intersection of art and survival in a time of conflict.
