Teaser poster for Supergirl warns you to “look out”
Image
Superman finally lands the Dcu on movie screens, and James Gunn’s new shared universe wastes no time in building its world. The Justice Gang is already present and helping Superman whenever they feel he needs a hand. Nathan Fillion is slated to reprise his role as Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the upcoming Lanterns series and the cousin of Kal-El, Kara Zor-El, is flying not far behind the man of steel for her own spin-off into the Dcu. Early its development, Superman was originally said to be titled Superman: Legacy. Following suit, it was also recently confirmed by Gunn himself that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be undergoing the Sean Parker-revision-treatment and simply go by Supergirl (“It’s cleaner.”)

Variety‘s social media page recently passed along a new teaser poster for Supergirl. In it, the Kryptonian is caught red-handed and sipping a slushie after spray-painting over the tagline for Gunn’s Superman,...

The Social Network Sequel Is Finally Happening After a 15-Year Wait, But With 1 Big Change
Image
Nearly 15 years after its critically acclaimed debut, the controversial film chronicling the birth and evolution of Facebook clicks up a long-awaited sequel. The Social Network Part II is on its way at Sony Pictures, though it won't see David Fincher return to the director's chair.

According to Deadline, The Social Network sequel is in development at Sony, with the original movie's screenwriter, Aaron Sorkin, directing the feature-length project, in addition to penning its script. Along with the film featuring a new director, Part II also boasts a different premise from the original. The follow-up is inspired by the Wall Street Journal's The Facebook Files, a series of articles released in 2021 exposing the inner workings and harm caused by the world's biggest social media hub.

Sorkin has long expressed his desire to make a sequel to The Social Network, struggling to find the right angle to build the follow-up on. However,...

‘Social Network’ Sequel in the Works With Aaron Sorkin Writing, Directing for Sony
Image
Aaron Sorkin is plotting a return to Facebook. The screenwriter behind The Social Network has written a sequel script he intends to direct as a feature for Sony, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The first Social Network movie was based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires, while the sequel is inspired by a series of articles Jeff Horwitz wrote for The Wall Street Journal known as The Facebook Files, which were published in October 2021 and explored the harms caused by the social network. (WSJ is not involved in the movie.)

Todd Black, Peter Rice, Sorkin and Stuart Besser are producing the sequel.

Jesse Eisenberg earned an Oscar nomination in a career-making role for The Social Network, in which he played Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. It is unclear if he will reprise the role for the sequel, though it’s hard to imagine someone else stepping into Zuckerberg’s Adidas sandals.

When Andrew Garfield Got Into A Golden Globes Scuffle Over The Social Network Drama? Here’s What We Know
Image
Andrew Garfield The Social Network (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Andrew Garfield once got a little too wrapped up in The Social Network, and it showed. The actor admitted he carried his character’s anger into a Golden Globes party weekend, leading to an “altercation” he still looks back on with a wince.

Garfield, who played Eduardo Saverin opposite Jesse Eisenberg’s Mark Zuckerberg, said filming The Social Network was an intense experience. Shooting kicked off in October 2009 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, under the sharp eye of director David Fincher and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin. The movie traced the true story of how Saverin and Zuckerberg’s friendship cracked under the weight of Facebook’s rise and millions of dollars.

Working with Fincher meant countless takes, which Garfield said pushed him to deliver raw performances. In an interview with Collider, Andrew Garfield explained, “One of the things I understand about why he does that...

Image
Did Andrew Garfield Look Up To His The Social Network Co-Star Justin Timberlake? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Andrew Garfield didn’t just meet his childhood idol while filming The Social Network. He shared scenes with him. In 2010, when the Oscar-nominated film hit theaters, Garfield was still carving out his Hollywood identity. But working with Justin Timberlake? That was a full-circle moment.

During his Wired Autocomplete Interview, Garfield gave fans a peek into that surreal experience. “I wish I could be Justin when I was a kid,” he admitted, adding, “He brought s*xy back. That is no mean feat for one person to do.” Safe to say, Garfield wasn’t just acting on set. He was lowkey fanboying the whole time.

Justin Timberlake played Sean Parker, the flashy co-founder of Napster, in The Social Network, while Andrew Garfield portrayed Eduardo Saverin, Facebook’s ousted co-founder. Their characters clashed hard in the film.

Hanno Basse — chief tecnology officer of AI tech developer Stability AI, whose board members include James Cameron — discussed his company’s work and the evolution of generative AI in filmmaking during this week’s Hpa Tech Retreat, saying, “The ultimate goal is to make more movies.” Pointing to the years it can take to make a Hollywood movie such as Cameron’s blockbuster “Avatar” films, he said, “We heard this from a number of other filmmakers as well: ‘We wanted to make more films in the past, and the time it takes for us, that’s the problem.'”

During his talk at the annual Palm Springs event, where AI took center stage, Basse weighed in on subjects such as data provenance and budgets, and spoke about progress being made in filmmaking, predicting that in “probably two years, we’re going to have very high performing open source foundation models.

Looking Back at Jesse Eisenberg’s Iconic Role of Mark Zuckerberg in “The Social Network”
Image
Jesse Eisenberg has put himself back in the Oscars race with A Real Pain, a film he wrote, directed, and acted in. The film has received two nominations, including Best Screenplay for Eisenberg and Best Supporting Actor for Kieran Culkin. Eisenberg’s earlier stint at the Oscars was when he went up against and lost narrowly to Colin Firth at the Academy Awards in 2011.

At the time, Eisenberg was nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for playing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in David Fincher’s The Social Network. Aaron Sorkin wrote a screenplay for the film, that was adapted from Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal.

What Happened To Eduardo Saverin After The Social Network
Image
The Social Network depicts how the revolutionary social media sensation Facebook came to be when Mark Zuckerberg first came up with the idea in 2003, but it doesn't show what happened to his partner and friend Eduardo Saverin after he was ousted from the company. Played by Andrew Garfield in the movie, Saverin gave Facebook its startup money and was fully onboard with the business. However, creative differences between Saverin and Zuckerberg led to tension at the company. Once Sean Parker came into the picture, Zuckerberg adhered to his advice more than Saverin's. This led to Saverin's dismissal from Facebook, an end to his friendship with Zuckerberg, and a lawsuit.

Saverin's role in creating Facebook is among the biggest things The Social Network gets wrong about what really happened. Saverin's unavailability was what really led to his being fired from Facebook. Zuckerberg tasked Saverin with providing the site with funding, setting up the company,...

Dakota Johnson Recalls Initial Impressions of Justin Timberlake on ‘The Social Network’ Set
Dakota Johnson
Dakota Johnson recently reflected on working with Justin Timberlake on the 2010 film “The Social Network.” In an interview with Vanity Fair, Johnson opened up about filming an intimate scene with Timberlake when she was just 19 years old.

Johnson had some preconceived ideas about Timberlake since he was already an established pop star. However, she said her experience was positive. “He was very kind and welcoming to me as a newcomer,” Johnson remarked.

The scene in question introduced Timberlake’s character Sean Parker to the concept of Facebook. It required Johnson, playing a Stanford student, to straddle and whip Timberlake with her hair multiple times under director David Fincher’s demanding direction.

Due to Fincher’s exacting approach, Johnson estimated they filmed the scene over 30 times. She said this intensive process left an impression. “I feel like I remember it vividly, even though it was over 10 years ago,” Johnson stated. While the extensive filming was challenging,...

Dakota Johnson had "preconceived notions" about Justin Timberlake before co-starring in 'The Social Network'.The 34-year-old actress and the 43-year-old singer worked together on David Fincher's 2010 movie in which he played Napstar founder Sean Parker and she portrayed college student Amelia Ritter, who had a one-night stand with him after meeting at a bar. When asked if she had any preconceived ideas about Justin before filming, Dakota told Vanity Fair: "Are you kidding? I was just like 19 and straddling Justin Timberlake and like whipping him in the face with my hair. 100 per cent had preconceived notions, but he was lovely and kind and really welcoming for a person that was just a stranger."I think that because this was 'The Social Network’ and David Fincher, we did this so many times that I’m like, I’m in it. I know it, I know all the lines. It’s still there.

Dakota Johnson is looking back at one of her first film roles, which saw her star opposite Justin Timberlake in The Social Network.

The actress was recently asked during a video interview with Vanity Fair if she had any “preconceived ideas” about the “SexyBack” singer before filming together in the 2010 David Fincher-directed movie.

“Are you kidding? I was just like 19 and straddling Justin Timberlake and like whipping him in the face with my hair,” the Fifty Shades of Grey star said. “100 percent had preconceived notions, but he was lovely and kind and really welcoming for a person that was just a stranger.”

The Social Network featured a dramatized version of how Mark Zuckerberg founded the social networking site that would become known as Facebook and the legal battles that followed. Jesse Eisenberg portrayed Zuckerberg while Timberlake played Sean Parker, founder of Napster and first Facebook president.

Terminator's James Cameron Should Know Better Than To Join An AI Company
Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator (1984)
While The Terminator movies are all about the dangers of artificial intelligence, James Cameron seems to have forgotten the very lesson in his film, as he is now embracing AI by joining the board of directors of Stability AI. Founded in 2019, Stability AI is known for its text-to-image generator called Stable Diffusion and its text-to-audio web tool, Stable Audio, which have both become major topics of conversation in the film industry. Stability AIs CEO is Prem Akkaraju, who was previously the CEO of visual effects company Weta Digital, which worked with Cameron on Avatar. Another high-profile name who recently joined Stability AI as an executive chairman is Sean Parker, the founder of Napster and former president of Facebook (played by Justin Timberlake in The Social Network).

The Director Who Warned Us About Artificial Intelligence Will Now Try To Embrace It

Just over a year ago, James Cameron was expressing his concerns about the rise of artificial intelligence. Now, he seems to be willing to embrace it, or at least take steps to shape the future of the advancing yet controversial technology. Deadline has just broken the news that Cameron, the director behind such tech-wary movies as the "Terminator" and "Avatar" franchises, is set to join the Stability AI Board of Directors.

Cameron joins a group of new board members that includes former Facebook head honcho Sean Parker, Greycroft venture capital firm Co-Founder and Managing Partner Dana Settle, and Colin Bryant, COO of the investment firm Coatue Management. The AI company's website states that it "[takes] an open-first and safety by design approach with all of our models so that developers all over the world can use our models as building blocks." James Cameron Joins Board of Stability AI: The ‘Next Wave’ of Storytelling
Image
Filmmaker James Cameron has joined the board of directors of Stability AI, an artificial intelligence company that allows users to create images, as well as audio and visual content, via text and image prompts.

Cameron, in a statement on Tuesday, said joining the London-based company’s board was fitting, because he’s spent his career “seeking out emerging technologies that push the boundaries of what’s possible, all in the service of telling incredible stories.”

“I was at the forefront of CGI over three decades ago, and I’ve stayed on the cutting edge since. Now, the intersection of generative AI and CGI image creation is the next wave,” Cameron continued. “The convergence of these two totally different engines of creation will unlock new ways for artists to tell stories in ways we could have never imagined. Stability AI is poised to lead this transformation.”

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The fresh capital — although it’s not clear how much — and new leadership “will be instrumental in accelerating Stability AI’s growth and ability to deliver best-in-class generative AI products into the market for consumer and enterprise use,” said the company, which was said to be facing a cash crunch.

Akkaraju, who has worked for years on meeting points for entertainment and tech, said Stability AI is “now in an ideal position to spearhead the real convergence of generative AI and studio content.” The company’s “world-class team, breakthrough models and unique developer network attracted me to take on the CEO role.”

He and Parker have worked together before, co-founding Sr Labs, the premium home...

J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings is one of the most popular franchises that has gained a massive fan following for its masterful narrative skills and richly created world featuring some of the most beautifully written characters. Fans adored the character’s portrayal, which added depth and intrigue to the lore. Embodying the stereotypical mentor, he transcended the role with its complexity and morality. The wisdom of the age-old wizard is unmatched as he guides other characters to their destiny.

While fans have witnessed the wisdom of McKellen’s wizard, some fortunate students were lucky enough to receive his life-changing wisdom as the 85-year-old actor shared a piece of advice with some students.

Sean Parker
Life in New Lodge by Jennie Kermode

When I met Italian filmmaker Alessandra Celesia to talk about her new documentary, The Flats, she told me that the people of New Lodge, the Belfast housing estate which it profiles, were excited about it making its way to the screen. Not used to getting much attention from the world at large, they were suddenly preparing to walk the red carpet as it opened Docs Ireland. That night, when it came, was a big celebration, with even the film’s canine star enjoying his moment in the spotlight. There was well deserved acclaim for a film which captures the community spirit of a place about to be lost forever, a place...

Image
Lyn Ulbricht’s son, Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, currently sits behind bars waiting to learn his sentence for breaking multiple laws while running the online drug bazaar – and Lyn believes that the U.S. government broke the law in putting him there. Lyn and director Alex Winter, who produced a documentary about Ross, Deep Web, spoke to uInterview exclusively at SXSW in 2015.

Q: Lyn, how did you find out about your son’s involvement in with Silk Road?

A: We got a call from a Reuters reporter at our house. That’s how I found out. To tell you the truth, sometimes I still can’t believe it. I had mentioned this to Alex, in the movie, it’s kind of like when someone dies. It’s such a shock to have Ross in prison that sometimes I wake up in the morning, and then I remember. It’s such a shock.

How Pirates and Factory Workers Changed Music Forever (and Made Eminem’s Life Miserable)
Image
The story everyone knows about the rise of the Mp3 and the end of the CD gold rush is a good one. It’s got Metallica and Dr. Dre, Sean Parker and the RIAA, Napster, Kazaa, Limewire, and the record industry’s flabbergasting decision to sue its own fans. But the real story, or arguably the most nuanced and fascinating one, lies elsewhere with a bunch of young computer wizzes scattered across the country and a handful of crafty, underpaid factory workers in Shelby, North Carolina.

This story anchors the new MTV Entertainment Studios documentary,...

‘Superman’: James Gunn Drops ‘Legacy’ From Title & Offers First Tease At New Costume
Image
To riff off of Justin Timberlake‘s Sean Parker in “The Social Network“, “Drop the “Legacy,” it’s cleaner.” That’s what James Gunn did with the title of his upcoming Superman movie as production on the blockbuster got underway yesterday. The new title? Simply “Superman“; a clean, bold edit without any superfluous or nonsensical subtitle attached, as franchises are wont to do nowadays.

Where Can Justin Timberlake Even Go From Here?
Image
Has a comeback ever been more poorly timed? Approval ratings for Justin Timberlake have dipped lower each year, coming to a head when Britney Spears’ memoir The Woman in Me was released a few months ago and unveiled intimate drama from her relationship with the “Cry Me a River” singer.

It’s not like his reputation had been particularly stellar over the last several years. A reckoning with the way the media treated Spears in relation to her once-beloved ex overlapped with a reckoning for Janet Jackson, who had to...

UCLA Acquires Westside Pavilion, Plans Research Park, Potential Performance Space
Image
UCLA has acquired the former Westside Pavilion shopping mall, which the university will transform into the UCLA Research Park, with Google assisting on converting part of the property.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“This acquisition will be absolutely transformative for UCLA, our great city, and the world. Gov. Gavin Newsom and the California Legislature helped make this possible through a generous state investment, and we are deeply thankful for their support,” said UCLA Chancellor Gene Block. “We will remake the empty former mall into a state-of-the-art hub of research and innovation that will bring scholars from different higher education institutions, corporate partners, government agencies and startups together to explore new areas of inquiry and achieve breakthroughs that will serve our global society.”

The 700,000-square-foot property, located two miles south of the Westwood campus, will initially host two multidisciplinary research centers: the California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy at...

What Happened To The Social Network's Real Winklevoss Twins After Facebook Lawsuit
Image
The Winklevoss twins gained exposure in the biopic "The Social Network" and were involved in a legal battle with Mark Zuckerberg over the creation of Facebook, which ended in a $65 million settlement. After the movie's release, the twins founded Winklevoss Capital Management in 2012, a venture capital firm, and later Gemini, a cryptocurrency exchange in 2014. Each of the Winklevoss twins is worth an estimated $1.4 billion.

David Fincher's The Social Network focuses quite a lot on the Winklevoss twins, whose professional stories are tied to Facebook's origins but continued after the lawsuit depicted in the movie. The 2010 film surrounding Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg and how he created the popular social media also gave a fictionalized insight into the real people who had a say on how it happened, like Eduardo Saverin, Sean Parker, and the Winklevoss twins Cameron and Tyler. Following the events shown in the movie, most of them continued their careers,...

What Happened To Napster Founder Sean Parker After The Social Network
Image
Sean Parker, portrayed in the film "The Social Network" as a visionary but cutthroat character, played a crucial role in securing funding and developing a business strategy for Facebook, and introduced the idea of generating revenue through advertising. Despite his involvement with Facebook, Parker's true passion has always been music. He co-founded Napster and later invested in Spotify, serving on its board until 2017 and announcing a partnership between Spotify and Facebook in 2011. In 2017, Parker publicly criticized social media, including Facebook, for exploiting human vulnerability and changing users' relationships with society. He expressed concerns about its impact on younger generations and their brain development. Parker is actively involved in notable non-profit organizations, using his wealth for philanthropic purposes.

The 2010 film, The Social Network, portrays the founding of the giant social media platform, Facebook, but after the end credits roll, viewers are left to wonder what happened to the real-life players in the story,...

The Social Network Ending Explained
Image
The ending of The Social Network leaves Mark Zuckerberg just as unsettled as he was at the beginning, emphasizing that his feelings remain unchanged despite major events. The movie focuses on the destructive relationships Mark creates in his bid to stand out, highlighting how the story is more about the people he alienates rather than the growth of Facebook. Mark's friendships are destroyed throughout the movie, with his ambition leaving him alone and his relationships imploding due to betrayals and mistrust.

The Social Network wraps up its multiple storylines about Facebook's formation with an ending that leaves Mark Zuckerberg as unsettled as he was at the beginning. The self-explanatory title reveals that the 2010 David Fincher movie tells a dramatized story of the creation of Facebook based on Ben Mezrich’s non-fiction novel The Accidental Billionaires. Still, The Social Network's true story adaptation focuses plenty on the few relationships Mark...

The Social Network True Story: Everything The Facebook Movie Got Wrong
Image
The Social Network took creative liberties in portraying the creation of Facebook, including Mark Zuckerberg's motivation for creating the website. Eduardo Saverin's role in the creation of Facebook was different than how it was portrayed in the film. He was not the victim and his intentions were mischaracterized. Sean Parker's involvement in creating Facebook was more beneficial than harmful, contrary to how the film depicted him as an antagonist. Parker's actions were, mostly, for the benefit of the company.

David Fincher’s The Social Network chronicles the creation of Facebook and the many troubles between its creators and investors, and while it got many things right, it also took a couple of creative liberties. Two years after directing the fantasy drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, David Fincher returned with a different type of drama film with The Social Network, based on the book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich.

‘The Social Network’ Sequel Not Ruled Out By Director David Fincher, But It’s “A Can Of Worms”
Image
David Fincher isn’t quite ready to give a “like” to the concept of doing a sequel to his 2010 Academy Award-winning film about the founding of Facebook, The Social Network.

Fincher, 61, talked about it with The Guardian in support of his new movie with Michael Fassbender, The Killer.

“Aaron [Sorkin, The Social Network’s screenwriter] and I have talked about it, but, um… that’s a can of worms,” Fincher said, and did not elaborate.

Sorkin would be up for it. In a 2021 interview, he said, “”I think what has been going on with Facebook these last few years is a story very much worth telling, and there is a way to tell it as a follow up to The Social Network, and that’s as much as I know.”

The Social Network won Oscars for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Score at the 2011 Academy Awards. It starred Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg,...

The Social Network Cast: Where The Actors Are Now
Image
The Social Network, directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin, has become a timeless film praised for its directing, writing, and score. The film's all-star cast, including Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, Rooney Mara, and Max Minghella, have all found success in their careers since the film's release.

Since the 2010 release of the critically acclaimed biopic about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, many have wondered where the cast of The Social Network is today. Walking alongside him was an older gentlemen wearing a hat, with the two engaged in conversation.

Everything to Know About David Choe, the ‘Beef’ Actor Who Boasted of Sexual Assault
David Choe
David Choe, the star of Netflix’s new hit series “Beef,” is an artist and an actor. But his performance in the series isn’t what has people talking — it’s an admission he made back in 2014 detailing how he sexually assaulted a masseuse, which he later said he made up and called “bad storytelling.” Critics have labeled him a rapist and have called for a boycott of the show.

Here’s everything to know about David Choe.

Who is David Choe?

Born in Los Angeles on April 21, 1976, Choe spent most of his upbringing raised by his Korean immigrant parents in the Koreatown neighborhood. During his teens, he became a spray paint artist, which ultimately led to his full-scale career as a painter, mural artist and art creative. After a short stint attending California College of the Arts and Crafts in Oakland, he went on to self-publish a graphic novel called “Slow Jams,...

From NBC’s ‘Night Court’ to Fox’s ‘Accused’: How to Create a New Broadcast TV Hit in 2023
Image
Cable was still coming of age when the original “Night Court” aired on NBC in the ’80s and early ’90s. Forget Netflix; when Harry Anderson first sat behind the gavel as Judge Harry Stone, Napster founder Sean Parker had just turned 4. This “Night Court” starring Melissa Rauch as Judge Abby Stone exists in another century, but it may as well be another world.

However, showrunner Dan Rubin (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) knows he has an advantage other freshmen do not. “It’s great if you have that name recognition,” he told IndieWire.

This is not the heyday of broadcast TV, but there’s always room for a hit like Fox’s “Accused,” NBC’s “Night Court,” and CBS’ “Fire Country.” The path to making it from idea to air is both similar and different. These days, we have summer originals, straight-to-series orders, smaller episode counts; a midseason premiere is no longer a sign of desperation.

Roy Orbison's 'House Without Windows' Is The Perfect Song For Disney's Haunted Mansion Trailer
Image
Second time's the charm? Disney is taking another stab at bringing the grim-grinning ghosts from its "Haunted Mansion" theme park ride out to socialize on the big screen. Its first attempt was in 2003 with Rob Minkoff's "The Haunted Mansion," a supernatural horror comedy anchored by Eddie Murphy that was basically Doa and has since been mostly forgotten. The studio is trying again 20 years later with "Haunted Mansion," a movie that defies the recent reboot trend by subtracting a "The" from the title rather than adding one.

"Haunted Mansion" comes from director Justin Simien and writer Katie Dippold ("Ghostbusters: Answer the Call"), both of whom have a clear affinity for horror-comedy. Indeed, the movie's trailer serves up equal-sized portions of laughs and scares, all set to the eerie tune of Roy Orbison's 1975 song "House Without Windows." Bear in mind, Orbinson's ditty on its own is more melancholy than spooky,...

Rian Johnson Doesn't Consider Knives Out A 'Deconstruction' Of The Whodunit Genre
Image
I believe it was Sean Parker who once said, "Reviving a genre isn't cool. You know what's cool? Deconstructing a genre."

Yes, we cinephiles probably throw the word "deconstruction" around a little too casually when talking about genre films that surprised us or defied our expectations. There are, however, times when the term is absolutely applicable. Take "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," a movie that everyone in the world appreciates and enjoys discussing in a calm, rational manner. Rian Johnson's sequel to "The Force Awakens" deliberately takes everything filmgoers know about "Star Wars" and throws it out the window. The goal, as /Film's Jacob Hall once wrote, is not to destroy "Star Wars" but to "challenge you and make you question what 'Star Wars' is and what it can be."

Toying with a genre's tropes is nothing new for Johnson. Heck, it's something he's done in every movie he's directed so far,...

Wizard Of Oz 'Reimagining' Coming From Black-Ish Creator Kenya Barris
Image
Somewhere over the rainbow, "black-ish" creator Kenya Barris is working on a new take on "The Wizard of Oz." Deadline reports today that Barris will be writing and directing a "reimagining" of the classic story, with his production company, Khalabo Ink Society, producing.

While no details are currently available about the direction the new film may take, it stands to reason that it will incorporate some aspects from L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," which is now in the public domain. The beloved 1939 "The Wizard of Oz" film, meanwhile, is an MGM production that is still copyrighted (Amazon owns MGM), while Barris' upcoming movie will reportedly be a Warner Bros. project.

The new movie also has a slightly different title: "Wizard of Oz," taking Sean Parker's advice from "The Social Network" and dropping the "The." Still, it seems the project will find a way to...
