Wet Leg Drop New Single “CPR”: Stream
Image
English rock band Wet Leg have released their new song “CPR,” the second preview of their upcoming album, moisturizer, due out July 11th via Domino. Stream the single below.

“CPR” is a love song, which lead vocalist Rhian Teasdale has said she felt “allergic” to writing before, according to a press release. But in typical Wet Leg fashion, “CPR” is not a warm and fuzzy ode to romance. Instead, the track is set atop a sleazy beat, with cheeky lyrics delivered in Teasdale’s signature deadpan.

Wet Leg have also released a self-directed music video for “CPR,” which features the band members jamming out to their new single while driving a convertible. Watch the visual below.

moisturizer is Wet Leg’s follow-up to the band’s eponymous debut studio album, which was released in 2022. Like their debut, moisturizer is produced by Dan Carey. Since their breakout,...

Watch Wet Leg Showcase Rousing Single ‘Catch These Fists’ on ‘Fallon’
Image
Wet Leg stopped by The Tonight Show to perform their new single, “Catch These Fists.” The duo appeared alongside their live band with singer Rhian Teasdale evoking the tone of the song in a boxing-inspired ensemble and silver gloves.

“Catch These Fists” will appear on Wet Leg’s second studio LP, Moisturizer, out July 11. The group, Teasdale and Hester Chambers, shared the single earlier this week alongside a chaotic video marked by an impromptu kidnapping. “We were just kind of having fun and exploring,” Chambers shared of the track in a statement.

Wet Leg Announce New Album moisturizer, Reveal Song “catch these fists”: Stream
Image
Wet Leg have officially returned with the announcement of their sophomore album: it’s called moisturizer and set for release on July 11th via Domino Records. They’ve also shared the album’s first new song, “catch these fists.”

moisturizer serves as the follow-up to Wet Leg’s lauded 2022 self-titled debut, and like its predecessor, is produced by Dan Carey. Now evolved beyond the two piece of Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, moisturizer is the first Wet Leg release to include and credit touring members Ellis Durand (bass), Henry Holmes (drums), and Joshua Mobaraki. The record takes inspiration from their experiences touring incessantly throughout 2022 and 2023, as well as horror movies, falling in love, and whatever would “be fun to play live.”

As for the more specific contents of moisturizer, the band has provided a list: “Active ingredients: kinship, Davina McCall, tourburn, ketamine, true love, every Alien film, Dan Carey, devotion,...

Been Stellar Reveal Origins of New Song “Sweet”: Exclusive
Image
Welcome back to Origins, our recurring series that gives artists a space to break down everything that went into their latest release. Today, Been Stellar take us through “Sweet,” the latest single from their upcoming album, Scream from New York, NY.

The post-punk revival is as strong as ever, and Been Stellar are quickly rising through the scene’s ranks with recent opening slots for Fontaines D.C. and Shame. Now, they’re set to drop their Dan Carey-produced debut album, Scream from New York, NY, featuring the latest single, “Sweet.”

The song develops perfectly on the post-punk ethos from which the band hails, but infuses it with a spaciness and shoegaze vibe. This is intentional, as they took major inspiration from Mazzy Star — specifically “the way David Roebuck is able to loop relatively simple chords with open strings underneath gives this sort of infinite longing feel that is mesmerizing.

Squid Share New Single “Fugue (Bin Song)”: Stream
Image
Squid have shared a new single called “Fugue (Bin Song),” an outtake from the sessions of their recent sophomore album O Monolith.

After implementing it into their live performances over the past few years, Squid recorded “Fugue (Bin Song)” in spring 2022 as they were making O Monolith alongside their longtime collaborator Dan Carey at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studio. After its initial iteration didn’t make the cut on the record, Tortoise’s John McEntire re-mixed and edited the tune in late 2023, resulting in the version we hear today.

At nearly five and a half minutes, “Fugue” is a wandering jam that draws from elements of dance punk, post rock, and noise pop. You can hear a bit of McEntire’s influence as the song culminates into a furious coda, almost like “TNT” with a lot more shredding. Stream it below.

Squid Share New Album O Monolith: Stream
Image
Squid have released their second studio album, O Monolith, out today, June 9th. Stream it via Apple Music or Spotify below.

Louis Borlase, Ollie Judge, Arthur Leadbetter, Laurie Nankivell, and Anton Pearson debuted as Squid with 2021’s Bright Green Field, and they began writing the music for their follow-up almost immediately, working out new songs on the road in support of their first LP.

“Without that tour, we wouldn’t have any of these tracks,” singer/drummer Judge said in a statement. “People were so looking forward to seeing live music that we thought we could just play anything, even if it was unfinished. In some form or another, we played about 80% of O Monolith, mostly without lyrics.” Once the record was fleshed out, Squid recorded it at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studios in Wiltshire, England with producer Dan Carey.

The lead single “Swing (In a Dream)” has a dreamlike quality.

slowthai Drops New Album Ugly: Stream
Image
slowthai has released his third studio album, Ugly, via Method Records/Interscope Records. Stream it via Apple Music or Spotify below, and get tickets to his upcoming tour dates here.

The title of the album is an acronym for U Gotta Love Yourself, the sentiment of which is reflected in slowthai’s description of the album as “completely me — about how I feel and what I want to be… it’s everything I’ve been leading up to.” The sound of Ugly taps back into slowthai’s love of artists like Nirvana, Radiohead, and Daniel Johnston.

“This album was me trying to emulate the spirit of the brotherhood ethos that bands have. Music is about the feeling and emotion that goes into it,” the British artist said in a statement. “Like an artist making a painting, it’s the expression of that moment in time. I really felt like I didn’t want to rap,...

Slowthai, Ugly review: Northampton rapper barrels toward self-revelation in thrilling, grimey fashion
Image
“I’ve been lacking motivation, I need an innervention,” gasps slowthai in the opening bars of his third album, Ugly. It is, perhaps, an acknowledgement of his disappointing second album, Tyron (2021). Released in the wake of his bad behaviour at the 2020 NME awards (where he made sexually inappropriate comments to host Katherine Ryan), that record had handed off all his most personal lyrics to guest artists. But Ugly finds the Northampton-born rapper back on intense, energetic form, taking a series of rapid breaths before plunging back into the chaotic energy of his soul. An “innervention”, he told Rolling Stone, is a self-reckoning. “You look inward,” he explained, “and you go, ‘Check yourself, man.’ Then you’re like, ‘Ok, I went into autopilot, and I had to pull myself back into my body in some way but I’m awake now.”

On Ugly, he uses rock music as an alarm bell...

Slowthai Is Celebrating His New Single By Spending All Day in a Box
Image
Slowthai leans into a bruising post-punk sound on his new song, “Selfish,” which will appear on his upcoming third album, Ugly, out March 3 via Method Records/Interscope Records.

Though arguably known first-and-foremost as a rapper, the frenetic, anxious rock-leaning style of “Selfish” is something Slowthai has explored on past songs like “Doorman” and “Deal Wiv It” (both of which were collaborations with Mura Masa). In a statement, Slowthai spoke about examining his own selfishness, especially in relation to his ambitions: “I want to be there for them but I’m always striving,...

There are many ways to introduce yourself as you crash into rock & roll history. ‘Lodge 49’ Season 2 Trailer: No One Knows What That Door Is Doing There (Video)
We don’t know what “Lodge 49” is about either, but perhaps we can learn together by watching the Season 2 trailer, which AMC released on Thursday.

Ok, we just watched it and we still don’t know what “Lodge 49” is about. Fortunately, AMC has some idea — we think — perhaps the cable channel’s official Season 2 description will enlighten us.

Season 2 of this modern fable set in Long Beach, Calif. centers on likable “Squire” and ex-surfer Sean “Dud” Dudley (Wyatt Russell), whose beloved fraternal order — the Ancient and Benevolent Order of the Lynx — is suffering under new rule by an ill-suited leader. Despite his “Knight” and mentor Ernie’s (Brent Jennings) lost faith, and his twin sister Liz’s (Sonya Cassidy) struggle with their past, Dud believes he is the key to restoring the Lodge to its former grandeur and putting the rightful king on the throne.

Nope. No, that didn’t do it either.

Pollyanna McIntosh (The Walking Dead) has booked a recurring role on the second season of AMC’s Lodge 49, from creator Jim Gavin, showrunner Peter Ocko and executive producer Paul Giamatti. McIntosh will play Clara, a British emissary who meets and befriends Connie at Lodge 1 in England. McIntosh is best known for her role as Jadis on The Walking Dead. On the film side, she had a lead role in Sundance pic The Woman. Gavin, Ocko, Giamatti, Dan Carey and Jeff Freilich executive produce. Lodge 49 is an AMC Studios production. McIntosh is repped by Insurge Entertainment.

Lodge 49 Season 2 Release Date, Trailer, Cast, Story, News, and More
Alec Bojalad Jul 11, 2019

AMC is picking up its intriguing and successful Better Call Saul time slot companion, Lodge 49, for Season 2.

Lodge 49 Season 2 was not inevitable.

Despite having a solid Better Call Saul lead-in, Lodge 49 was a real risky proposition for AMC. The first season of the show was about as experimental as TV show offerings can get. It came from longtime fiction writer yet TV novice, Jim Gavin. It starred relative unknowns Wyatt Russell and Brent Jennings.

It was a quirky, light-hearted comedy, but also danced around the edges of some real mystical stuff. Today, however, that initial risk pays off for AMC as the network has announced that it was renewed Lodge 49 for Season 2.

Lodge 49 Season 2 Release Date

We have an official release date for Lodge 49 Season 2! The show will return to AMC on Monday, August 12 at 10:00 p.m. Et, following the premiere of The Terror Season 2. Mark your calendars.

‘Lodge 49’ Bosses on Making a ‘Modern-Day Fable’
Linda Emond, Brent Jennings, Eric Allan Kramer, David Pasquesi, Wyatt Russell, and Sonya Cassidy in Lodge 49 (2018)
Some series can be summed with a simple logline — and then there’s “Lodge 49,” AMC’s new “modern-day fable” set to debut on August 6th.

Executive producers Peter Ocko and Jim Gavin (who created the show) admit their series defies any concise elevator pitch. But therein lies the charm, they say. “I had this image in my head for a long time of a young man knocking on a door, and an old man opening it. And that was it,” says Gavin. “The meaning of that moment is the whole show.”

The drama, which premiered last month at SeriesFest in Denver, traces the unlikely friendship between Dud (Wyatt Russell), a down-and-out ex-surfer, and Ernie (Brent Jennings), a middle-aged plumbing salesman who meet when Dud shows up at Ernie’s lodge in Long Beach, CA.

“Our characters are probably the least aspirational characters on television,” says Ocko, who also serves as showrunner.
