Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson have both led divisive careers, and they were in a movie together relatively recently. Lopez is known for starring in some notoriously terrible films, countless which hold rotten Tomatometer scores on Rotten Tomatoes, including Gigli, which is often regarded as one of the worst movies of all time.
At the same time, Lopez has been in several titles that have proved her critics wrong, legitimizing her as an actress. This was witnessed in the 2019 movie Hustlers, which really shows off Lopez's dramatic chops. Wilson has had a similarly divided career. For every hit like The Royal Tenenbaums, he has also made something like Are You Here or Marmaduke.
This has created a highly inconsistent reputation for the Midnight in Paris actor. Likewise, the recent romantic comedy collaboration between Lopez and Wilson split many critics. Now, a few years later, the movie is finding renewed success on streaming.

The Battle of Iwo Jima, fought from February 19 to March 26, 1945, was a key battle of World War II. The Japanese Army had two fortified bunkers there, which the American Army aimed to capture. The casualties were heavy on both sides, with the Americans ultimately suffering more losses than the Japanese. The island of Iwo Jima was eventually taken, and many Americans are familiar with the photograph (taken by a journalist named Joe Rosenthal) of American soldiers raising a flag at the top of Mount Suribachi. The photo was used as a model by sculptor Felix de Weldon to fashion a statue used at the Marine Corps War Memorial at the Arlington National Cemetery.
The battle is well-remembered by war historians, and taught extensively in history classes. The Battle of Iwo Jima has also been a popular subject for filmmakers, and many features have been devoted to the war effort. Perhaps most famously,...

Networks and studios submit hundreds of actors for Emmy consideration each year, but those not officially entered can still self-submit for a chance at receiving a nomination. This year, that happened in droves.
Recognizable names like Clancy Brown (supporting actor for The Penguin) and Joel McHale (guest star on The Bear) were not on the studios' lists that were made public prior to the ballots being released on June 12. It's possible they were added later by the networks, or that the performers self-submitted. Note that Television Academy members get one free submission each year; otherwise, entry fees are based on several factors. Here is the fine print from the Emmys rulebook:
Individual achievement entries have a processing charge of $125 per submission. In addition to the $125 processing charge, each entrant is charged a $100 entry fee per individual listed on the entry, e.g., for an individual achievement entry with two entrants,...

In its heyday, "Game of Thrones," based on the books by George R.R. Martin, was one of the biggest series on TV. That doesn't mean there was no room for silliness on set, though. Amid long, punishing shoots, an abundance of violence, and all the complexities of navigating a vast fantasy world, it's no surprise the cast and crew of "Game of Thrones" felt compelled to find outlets for levity wherever they could. We previously shared how the "Game of Thrones" showrunners pranked Kit Harington with a fake script, which saw his character, Jon Snow, being brutally burned. Had it been part of the show, this story point would have required Harington to undergo a hefty makeup job every day for the rest of the series' eight-season run. Harington wasn't just the target of on-set hijinks, though. He also masterminded a prank on his co-star, John Bradley.

To say that Jon Snow from Game of Thrones is a complicated character would be an understatement. However, to say that Jon Snow knows absolutely nothing other than his duty would be much closer to the truth.
And that is where that stupidity lies. Although no hatred for anyone but Jon Snow was pretty stupid in Game of Thrones, wasn’t he? Well, Kit Harrington, who portrayed the role, revealed that there was a gut-wrenching scene that was cut out from the show, which would have made his and Ygritte’s end more painful!
Kit Harrington is more selfish than Jon Snow
Well, throughout the show, Jon Snow (or Aegon Targaryen) is always confused between his duty and his love. In the early days, when he joined the Night’s Watch in the first season, he was introduced to Maester Aemon Targaryen, who gave him an iconic speech about love and duty.

David Benioff and D. B. Weiss created a show so good that it changed lives (figuratively). Game of Thrones is by far one of the greatest series ever created, and yes, we are ignoring the ending; we will not be talking about that today. But let’s dive into the shows Benioff and Weiss created after the GoT craze.
Book adaptations can go wrong very easily. Either writers change too much or find it difficult to deal with many characters. But George R. R. Martin’s incredible book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, was done justice by Benioff and Weiss. Regardless of the critics and opinions of fans, we all can agree that there is no other noir-fantasy show like Game of Thrones, and there never will be.
The iconic duo has continued working together because, no joke, they create awesome content. Without further ado, let’s take...

We're told over and over again throughout "Game of Thrones" that Jon Snow's whole deal is "being a bastard." Played by Kit Harington, Jon shows up in the pilot as the apparent bastard son of the honorable Ned Stark (Sean Bean), the patriarch of House Stark in the northern reaches of Westeros, and some random tavern wench. But when you learn more about Ned and his nature, the idea that Jon could possibly be the result of an affair seems sort of ludicrous. Despite that, Jon is constantly met with hostility from Ned's wife Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley), who thinks Jon is a reminder of Ned's greatest misstep as a husband, and he's not treated with as much kindness and respect...

One of the most influential television series in modern TV history, Game of Thronesushered in the modern era of "peak TV", bringing premium cable and streaming services to the forefront of the medium for the next 15 years. Over its dominant eight-season run, the series tackled the social and political turmoil of a fantasy universe in a more adult and complex way than television audiences had previously been exposed to.
One of the defining factors for Game of Thrones' immense success was its collection of three-dimensional and nuanced characters, and though the series lost a lot of goodwill with audiences in its less-than-ideal final seasons, the series always strived to have one of the best casts on TV. One of the defining factors for Game of Thrones' immense success was its collection of three-dimensional and nuanced characters, and though the series lost a lot of goodwill with audiences in its less-than-ideal final seasons, the series always strived to have one of the best casts on TV. Call me Will Downing the way I'm drifting around in space, dying to be reunited with the world and characters of 3 Body Problem. Unfortunately, a bit like Will's collision course, ours seems to have taken a bit of a setback too.
3 Body Problem was renewed for two more seasons back in 2024. Fans were delighted for the opportunity to get to see the next two Cixin Liu's books adapted onscreen, after a particularly wild cliffhanger was left dangling over our heads at the end of season 1: the alien race of the San Ti are on their way to Earth, and they're not exactly friendly, sending a message to humanity: "You are bugs."
Unfortunately for the audience, it seems their arrival on Earth might take some time. Despite a prompt renewal announcement Netflix did not include the show on its list of 2025 releases, leading to rumors of a 2026 release.

When Game of Thrones concluded, reactions were mixed. Some fans praised its grand scale and dramatic stakes, while most others lamented the choices made in the final season. But beyond the controversy, there was something about its ending that felt oddly familiar, almost as if we had seen elements of it before in another fantasy epic.

It wasn’t just the sweeping battles or the grand destinies of its characters. There was a deeper structural resemblance, a narrative technique that gave the story a sense of history repeating itself.
Whether intentional or not, these similarities sparked discussions among viewers. They recognized echoes of The Lord of the Rings in Westeros’ final chapter. And when you break it down, the connections are hard to ignore.

The most chilling elements of Game of Thrones are the White Walkers. They captured fans’ attention immediately with their silent menace and icy, undead bodies. However, many believe that the show’s rushed treatment of these supernatural creatures in the final seasons squandered their potential.

A fascinating fan theory suggests that the White Walkers were not mere harbingers of death but intelligent beings with a calculated purpose, one that extended beyond simple destruction.
Unfortunately, the abrupt conclusion of their arc in a single battle episode during the final season left fans yearning for a deeper exploration of their motives.

HBO’s fantasy series Game of Thrones was a global phenomenon until it was let down by an anti-climactic ending. The show was known for its surprises and shocks when it came to fan-favorite characters and none was more under threat constantly than Kit Harington’s Jon Snow. However, the character survived, even facing a death, and lived to fight another day.
While it was earlier reported that a sequel series centered on Jon Snow was in development, Harington stated that the show was off the table. Many fans have questioned whether a sequel series on the character was necessary or if it was another attempt at a cash grab from the network. Harington’s on-screen buddy, however, had different ideas about a return.

Know that when celebrated astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson nitpicks the bad science commonly encountered in mainstream Hollywood blockbusters, he's not trying to spoil anyone's fun. He's just being a nerd, and I think we can all respect that. There's nothing shameful about possessing a lot of scientific knowledge, and pointing out the physics and astronomical errors in a movie can only, one might hope, encourage filmmakers to be more accurate next time. Case in point: Tyson infamously complained to director James Cameron that, in "Titanic," he got the night sky wrong. Tyson knew what the constellations looked like in the North Atlantic on that fateful April night in 1912, and suggested that Cameron, using digital trickery, rework the skies to match. Cameron, also being a nerd, obliged.
When it comes to most space-bound movies, though, Tyson has a lot to complain about. Audiences have accepted that most sci-fi spacecraft, for instance,...

This article contains spoilers for many major fantasy TV shows! For every unforgettable moment in a fantasy TV show, there are just as many controversial moments that push viewers to their breaking point. Even the most popular fantastical TV series in history have included scenes that were so polarizing that audiences stop watching the show altogether. Typically, these plot points revolve around the introduction or exit of characters, as this can dramatically alter the series' dynamic and be devastating to witness. TV deaths often spark outrage when viewers feel that the character didn't deserve to be killed off and still had more to contribute.
There are many fantasy TV scenes that make no sense, but this is more excusable, as the complex magic systems and world-building in speculative fiction shows can become confusing. However, when a series makes a concrete and avoidable choice that alienates audience members, it's much more difficult to accept this.

It’s always exciting when a TV show takes a massive risk that really pays off, but it can be insanely frustrating when these surprising writing decisions fall flat on their face. While huge twists, impulsive character decisions, or unusual storytelling choices can keep things interesting, they also have the potential to alienate audiences and lead to storylines that the writers opt to quietly discard rather than continue telling an unpopular plot. This has been a problem across comedy, drama, and even fantasy series that have tried something new with their storyline, only to have viewers flat-out reject the risk.
Many of the best TV shows of all time have taken massive risks, only for them to not work out and have to backtrack on their storylines. This has seen previously deceased characters inexplicably return to life, established backstories being badly rewritten, or even final seasons that ruined the legacy...

To be a Game of Thrones fan is masochistic work. Because with every day that passes, the chances of ever seeing George R.R. Martin's written conclusion to his A Song of Ice and Fire series get smaller and smaller. Sure, the HBO iteration did, well, something with the author's road map and over-arching story plan. But whether or not it was a satisfying, nuanced ending to the story is another thing entirely, and up for contentious debate among fans.
The prolific-yet-meandering author has long brushed off worries about his completion of his Westerosi story as overblown. But in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the author admits that maybe those fans are right — maybe he won't finish the book. After all, as he admits: "Unfortunately, I am 13 years late."

The film will reportedly be set during the War of the Roses, a period in which several civil wars were waged for control of the English throne. Sci-fi, fantasy, and other works of speculative fiction literature all lend themselves to being adapted for the screen through the television format. While movies typically have larger budgets and might reach a wider array of audiences, TV shows are in the unique position to take their time developing the story's world, which is a critical part of science fiction. Introducing viewers to the imagined rules and systems that govern the narrative requires attention to detail and seamless exposition, especially when these works are complex and rooted in real scientific principles.

Sometimes, a television series delivers a shocking moment by killing off what may seem like a main character. While some of these may be done for shock value, sometimes, the show also needs to do it to push things forward. A major character's death has a significant impact on the plot. Ned Stark's death in the first season of Game of Thrones is a great example.
Not only does it start a war between the North and the South, but it also sets Game of Thrones in motion. Similarly, Lost too has a significant death early in the show that holds significance. However, like Ned Stark in Game of Thrones, television shows often choose a great or beloved character to maximize the impact of their death.

The fantasy drama Game of Thrones is considered one of the best TV series of all time, despite its divisive finale. Following its success on HBO, the network continued to bet on George R.R. Martin's works, and, at one point, a spin-off series starring Kit Harington's Jon Snow was in the works.
The main series ended in 2019 after eight seasons, and a Jon Snow follow-up was considered. Its status remained uncertain since the announcement, but now HBO boss Casey Bloys confirmed the series has been shelved after actor Kit Harington echoed the same sentiment earlier this year. However, he gave a hopeful answer about the character's future, Deadline reports.

Game of Thrones catapulted many young stars into mainstream popularity. Among the most beloved faces in George R.R. Martin's epic fantasy series was Maisie Williams, who rose to prominence for her portrayal of the fiercely independent Arya Stark. Towards the end of the series, she is seen bidding farewell to Jon Snow and on the docks of King's Landing before sailing to the west of Westeros. Now, Martins new update hints that this open-ended storyline could easily be twisted into a new beginning for Arya Stark.

Major television deaths are almost always sad, but they're especially devastating when viewers barely get to spend time with the character in question. While the death of a longtime favorite dramatically impacts the show and its audience, the demise of smaller players can hit just as hard.
This is especially true when they've made a good impression, igniting hopes that they'll take on a more prominent role in the story. In some cases, they're met with an early end instead, leaving viewers to wonder what their character arc could have looked like if they'd lasted longer than a handful of episodes.

Game of Thrones' Syrio Forel is the perfect example of a fan-favorite character who makes an impression in just a few episodes. Syrio is introduced in season 1's "Lord Snow," when Ned tasks him with training Arya in the art of swordplay.

The fantasy genre shines on television, as the episodic nature of TV shows allows for plenty of time to focus on world-building and magic systems while still providing character development. However, all the moving parts and expectations surrounding fantasy TV series make it difficult for a show to hit the mark in every aspect of the story. Common issues arise with fantasy TV shows that continue for too long, running out of ideas and growing repetitive before the finale. In a perfect show, there can't be any major problems or too many moments that make viewers quit the series.
Many of the best fantasy TV shows of the 2020s are almost perfect and could prove themselves to be the best of the 21st century before their stories end. More often than not, great fantasy shows are based on books, giving the seasons structure and providing a strong storyline for the script.

While it might come as a shock, sometimes, actors root for their own characters to be written off of a show. The reasons can be as simple as that they are bored or that they find the experience too demanding. Sometimes, they receive a better offer and have to give up their current post. However, not everyone who wants their character dead has their wish to come true.
Sophie Turner famously didn't want her Game of Thrones character to survive the show, but fans would later learn that Sansa becomes one of the few survivors who thrive in the game for power. Similarly, many actors have very specific ideas for their characters to be killed off. Sometimes, the show honors their idea. Other times, they get a different, shocking death.
