Upon his graduation from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Mak began his career in the local film industry of Hong Kong working as an assistant director. He worked with numerous famous film directors such as Wong Kar-wai, Tsui Hark and Hung Kam-po in various Hong Kong productions.
In 1997, he became a producer in the General Programme division of Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). During his employment with RTHK, Mak has produced numerous TV programmes including documentaries & drama productions which won several international awards.
2012, He worked together with Noel (the executive producer of this documentary) to create a documentary "Soul of China", which won several international awards, including Silver World Medal of New York Festivals Awards.
