After four decades, The Goonies may finally be getting its sequel. While there have been rumors and rumblings for several years about a new movie happening, the latest development on The Goonies 2 comes with the long-gestating project gaining some much-needed momentum to make its way out of development hell.
Per Deadline, it's just been reported that Potsy Ponciroli (Old Henry) has signed on to write a Goonies sequel script for Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group. No information has yet been revealed about the planned story, and it's unclear exactly which characters from the original film are planned to return. No director has yet been named for the project as of this time. Steven Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Holly Bario are producing for Amblin Entertainment alongside original Goonies writer Chris Columbus, while Lauren Shuler Donner will executive produce.
