Alvaro Collar (Madrid, 1981) is an experimental filmmaker and video artist. He is a founding member of the video art collective Haz! and an associate at AVAM (Madrid Visual Artist Association).
He earned a degree in Media Studies from the Complutense University of Madrid (2006), pursued Film Production at Brighton Film School (2008), and holds a Ph.D. in Film Analysis and Criticism from the Complutense University of Madrid (2016).
As an experimental filmmaker, he has produced notable works such as Centrifuga (Centrifuge, 2007), which secured the First MovilFilmFest's Best Original Idea prize, and Myriad (2012), recipient of the Movilfilmfest Tenerife Best Video Award and Urban TV Best Shortfilm Award. Additionally, he was awarded the Minute Movie Cup twice: in with Onirica (Oneiric, 2009) and in Quinta habitacion (Fifth Room, 2006), representing Spain at the UNICA's World Minute Movie Cup in 2009 and 2006.
His projects have been featured at prestigious venues including Ars Electronica, Hanshan Museum, Medialab Madrid; Galeria Cruce Contemporaneo; Espacio Menos Uno, NIU Espai Artistic Contemporani, Barcelona; MEM Bilbao, Vallecas Experimental Film Festival; Pamplona Film Festival; CEC Barcelona; World Minute Movie Cup, Daegu, South Korea; Mobilefest, Sao Paulo; and Microfilms, Lisbon.
