Will Duster ride again? After the HBO Max original drama came to a stunning conclusion on Thursday, with one major character’s fate in question and the news that another who we’ve only heard about in past terms is alive, well, and potentially up to no good, the series leaves plenty of room to continue on for Season 2. So will the J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan co-created series return for Season 2? Here’s what we know so far. Has Duster been renewed for Season 2? Not yet. HBO Max has not yet confirmed whether the series will continue on past Season 1, but stay tuned for updates. Who will star in Duster Season 2? If the show returns for a second season, the cast would likely feature the return of its surviving principles, including Josh Holloway as getaway driver-turned-fbi informant Jim Ellis, Rachel Hilson as Nina Hayes, Camille Guaty as Izzy, Asivak Koostachin...

This post contains spoiler from the Duster season finale on Max.
We’ve arrived at the season finale of Duster on Max. As we left off last week, it was clear the house of lies built by Nina (Rachel Hilson) and Jim (Josh Holloway) as they investigate Saxton (Keith David) had come crashing down. But could they find a way to survive? That’s the question we had to answer during this week’s finale, “66 Reno Split.” Let’s dive in and see how it turned out.
We open this week by flashing back to South Philly in 1954. There, Saxton is threatening Virgil Hayes (Kenneth Mosely). Seems Virgil isn’t keeping up his end of the numbers-running racket. Young Nina watches the exchange. It’s not long before her father ends up dead, providing the fuel that’s led to her choice of career and current situation.

There’s no time for a deep breath in Duster’s explosive episode 8, the kind of finale that doesn’t knock on your door but breaks it down with a flamethrower. In this jaw-gritting, gun-smoke-filled final act, we finally learn who Xavier is, Saxton meets a Shakespearean end trying to save his son, Nina’s quest for justice reaches an agonizing crescendo, and Jim (Josh Holloway) stumbles upon a truth so seismic it may just tip the political balance of an entire nation.
Who? What? Where? When? Why? How? All of them get answered and then swiftly replaced with even thornier questions. Nina, once shackled and sedated by betrayal, survives an assassination attempt by a rogue agent, only to uncover that the conspiracy she’s chasing is far from over. Saxton does not die as the villain he spent years becoming, but as a father who sacrifices everything for his child.

[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers for the Duster Season 1 finale.] The first season of Duster has come to a bittersweet end. The finale sees the culmination of this season’s events (and leaves a few dangling threads for a potential Season 2 to pull from). The episode begins with young Nina back in Philadelphia in 1954 at the moment when she first lays eyes on Ezra Saxton (Keith David) as he gives her father a tongue-lashing at his convenience store, and she accidentally alerts them to her presence. In the present day, Nina (Rachel Hilson) awakes in custody, with Billy (Evan Jones) torturing her for information about who else she’s been working with besides Jim Ellis (Josh Holloway). It doesn’t take long for Jim to realize what has happened to her. After returning his daughter Luna to Izzy’s (Camille Guaty) house, her doctor boyfriend mentions meeting Billy at the hospital and the fact that he spoke...

In just a very short time, Josh Holloway’s Duster has received a lot of fan appreciation. While viewers loved him as Jim Ellis, Rachel Hilson is also not far behind with her fiercely powerful role as FBI agent Nina Hayes. Just fresh out of Quantico, she’s all set to bring down crime boss Saxton, making her much more than just a supporting character.
Even before she stepped into this role, Hilson already had an impressive resume over the years, with roles in several other popular shows. From crime to heartfelt rom-coms, she has dabbled in every field. While Duster might be her biggest role to date, these other shows also deserve their due credit. So, let’s look at the five standout shows that you should definitely watch if you loved seeing her as Nina in Duster.

“You can’t unring a bell,” they say, and in Duster episode 7, that bell is ringing loud and clear, echoing all the way from Las Vegas to the White House. After six episodes of cryptic glances, coded messages, and enough shadowy deals to fill a spy novel, we finally crack the suitcase that’s been dangling like a carrot on a stick. Spoiler: it’s not a bomb, but a recording so explosive it could bring down Nixon himself.

Whether you’re into cold cases, corrupt towns, or old-school gangsters, there’s something here for every crime fan.

They say fortune favors the bold, but in Duster’s Episode 6, fortune seems to be playing hide-and-seek with Nina Hayes. I swear, this episode had me gripping my screen like a lifeline in a storm: equal parts admiration and edge-of-seat anxiety.
But just when I was ready to say ‘smooth sailing’ after Duster’s Episode 5, today’s one threw a wrench in the works, and boy, did it get spicy. Nina, with a confidence as fierce as a wildfire and nerves of steel, plunges headfirst into a world where every smile could be a loaded gun. Jim Ellis’ (Josh Holloway) warnings echo in my head: one wrong word, and it’s curtains for her. Yet here she stands, a one-woman wrecking ball amid a corrupt maze where politicians and gangsters dance a dangerous tango.
The clock ticks, the tension soars, and Nina’s grit is both inspiring and terrifying. I...

[Warning: The following post contains spoilers for Duster Episode 6.] Things get pretty hairy for Nina (Rachel Hilson) and Jim (Josh Holloway) in this week’s edition of Duster… but things also end on a somewhat swoony note. Like Episode 2 (which was also directed by Steph Green), this segment begins with the ending, as the two have to work together to survive a shootout. The story then goes back in time to reveal how they’ve gotten there. The day of the big meeting with the Russians, Nina is almost found out when Agent Grant (Dan Tracy) shows up to the hotel where Nina is waiting for Saxton (Keith David). Billy (Evan Jones) rightly clocks her as duplicitous, and while Royce (Benjamin Charles Watson) is too busy flirting to notice, Billy doesn’t let it go. After Royce becomes loopy from mixing his heart medication with alcohol at the meeting, causing a scene with the Russians, Billy gets...

After four explosive episodes of chaos and conflicting loyalties, Duster Episode 5 slows down just enough to let the emotional weight sink in, before hitting the gas again. Titled ‘Ravishing Light and Glory’, this episode marks a turning point in the series. It’s where characters begin to show their cracks, and their choices carry heavier consequences than ever before. Nina Hayes finally steps into her own spotlight and no longer looks like a supporting player in the gang’s twisted plans.

This post contains spoilers for Duster episode 5 on Max from this point forward.
We ended last week with Nina (Rachel Hilson) and Jim (Josh Holloway) up against it. How would they find a way forward? That was the challenge before us in this week’s episode. Let’s see how they fare in Duster season 1 episode 5.
As mentioned, Nina and Jim are in a tight spot. Nina’s boss isn’t pleased with her recent actions, which culminated in the death of a former agent. But she shares she’s close to getting an in with Saxton (Keith David), who is on the cusp of a big deal. She’s given 48-hours to make it happen.
Jim, meanwhile, is in hot water with Saxton. He lost the Howard Hughes car, which he gave away to save his life. He can’t admit the truth, so instead looks like he bungled a big job.

Have you ever watched a show so bonkers, so brazenly over-the-top, that you start to wonder whether the writers were sipping kerosene instead of coffee? That’s Duster Episode 5 for you: a glorious explosion of betrayal, bad decisions, and unexpected bisexual romance, all wrapped in enough patriotic symbolism to make Uncle Sam weep into his bourbon.
Where Episode 4 built tension with subtlety, Episode 5 of Duster cranks the volume. Titled, ‘Ravishing Light and Glory’,, the episode takes us from moonshine-soaked desperation to wedding-crashing lesbian liberation and back again with a generous sprinkle of espionage, fireworks-as-weapons, and one deeply confused government official.
Jim Ellis (Josh Holloway) gets fired, Genesis gets dumped (and then saves the day with explosives), Nina infiltrates Saxton’s camp disguised as a Russian interpreter, Wade waffles between loyalty and fatherly guilt, and Chad Grant confirms himself as the human equivalent of mold: everywhere, unwanted, and strangely persistent.

[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers for Duster Episode 5.] Nina (Rachel Hilson) gets put to the test in a very big way on the latest episode of Duster and puts on a masterclass in subterfuge to get through it unscathed. First, the episode begins with a rather shocking aside. Two administrative officials — one from the Pentagon and one from the FBI — are summoned to the White House for an emergency meeting with none other than Richard Nixon, who declares from the Oval Office, “Gentlemen, we’ve got a big f***ing problem.” Later, we see the Watergate cleanup operation begin … with the help of Agent Grant (Dan Tracy), no less. This CGI-enhanced cameo is just the start of a pseudo-history subplot involving the disgraced former president that was first envisioned by cocreator Latoya Morgan. “That was one of the MacGuffins that I pitched that J.J. [Abrams, cocreator] really got excited about because it’s something in...

When actress Mira Sorvino thinks about what and who helped her launch her career, she credits Tribeca Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal for giving her that break.
“Jane Rosenthal actually gave me my first job in the industry. It started off being a volunteer position — I was an intern at Tribeca Productions, reading scripts. Then it turned into a paid position as a reader after they ended up liking my coverage. I did that for two years, and during that time I actually read the script Amongst Friends that ended up being the first feature that I ever starred in. We went to Sundance and that launched my career,” the actress recalled. “Tribeca helped me start my career, and it’s always given a hand up to young artists and people who had the gumption to just go for it.”

Some men are born to run from trouble. Jim Ellis (Josh Holloway) seems like the kind who’d invite it to dinner, serve it whiskey, and play cards with it till dawn. I didn’t think Duster could get more chaotically thrilling, but episode 4, titled Criminalus Velocitus Super-Sonicus, proved me wrong and how gloriously.
It’s the kind of episode that doesn’t politely ask for your attention. It walks in unannounced, kicks the coffee table, and demands you watch closely. Because if you blink, you’ll miss a contract killer sipping whiskey with his target, a guilt-ridden agent chasing coordinates like a scavenger hunt, and a father-son dynamic more dented than the vintage car they wrecked.
Ellis, hilariously tragic and charmingly idiotic, finds himself hunted by Enrico the Blade, while Nina Hayes, our resolute agent with a soul far too heavy for her shoulders, tries to decode what looks...

At some point, we all have to pay the toll. But what happens when the bill comes due? How do you respond? Well, Jim (Josh Holloway) has been delaying his bill coming due for a couple weeks, but that ended in the fourth episode of this first season of Duster. Let’s see how it all plays out.
Enrique the Blade
As we open the episode, Jim is contemplating his troubles. In the pilot, he arranged to work for Mad Raoul when he planned to go on the run. Instead, he made a deal with Nina (Rachel Hilson) and stayed in town. That meant going back on his promise to Mad Raoul, which didn’t bode well. As we open this week, we find out that Mad Raoul is planning to connect, sending his top man, Enrique the Blade...

The arc of the universe is long, but it always bends towards that "Watchmen" meme. To paraphrase Doctor Manhattan: It's 2004 and I'm watching Josh Holloway play a suave, charming rogue lying to everyone with whom he crosses paths in a series co-created by J.J. Abrams; it's now 2025 and I'm watching Josh Holloway play a suave, charming rogue lying to everyone with whom he crosses paths in a series co-created by J.J. Abrams. In another 20 years, we may very well be putting on our virtual-reality visors in the five minutes of free time a day our AI overlords allot for us — I should mention that, in this hypothetical, everyone's favorite streaming service Quibi has been brought back from the dead — so we can watch Holloway and Abrams reunite on another show all over again.
The parallels between "Lost" and the new HBO Max series "Duster" might seem as if they begin and end here.

Patti LuPone is facing more fallout from a recent interview in the New Yorker in which she dissed fellow Broadway star, and former friend, Audra McDonald and referred to Kecia Lewis as a “bitch.”
On Friday, an open letter signed by more than 500 artists called her out for “deeply inappropriate and unacceptable public comments.” Among the names who signed it were “Elsbeth” star Wendell Pierce, Rachel Hilson, a co-lead in the new HBO Max series “Duster” and Susan Kelechi Watson of “This is Us” and “The Residence.”
The letter, which was shared by Playbill, stated that its purpose was not to “shame or isolate,” but to call for “accountability, justice, and respect — rooted in love for the art form and for the people who make it possible.”
The missive specifically called out LuPone’s remark about Lewis, who won at this year’s Tony Awards for 2024’s production of the musical “Hell’s Kitchen.

This post contains spoilers from Duster season 1 episode 3 from this point forward.
Often in series television, we make progress in the tiniest of increments. That’s certainly the case with Duster, the new series on Max. In the third episode, we got some progress, but it feels like some small, incremental steps. Still, any progress is good progress, right?
Let’s dive into this week’s episode of Duster.
A knife at the throat
The show has a thing for jumping to a crucial point then rewinding to show how we got there. We got it last week with Jim (Josh Holloway) and the body in the desert. This week, it’s Nina’s (Rachel Hilson) turn. We have our cold open with her in a dark kitchen, a knife and an angry man at her throat. It doesn’t look good, but quickly we spring to the opening credits.

The new series Duster is off to a strong start on Max. After two episodes, the show is holding a strong score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, and fans are waiting to see what will happen next in episode three.
New episodes of Duster drop on Thursdays at 9 Pm Et, exclusively on Max. Heading into the premiere of the third episode, Cbr can unveil an exclusive sneak peek clip, hinting at what's to come. The clip features Awan's (Asivak Koostachin) admiration for Superman, as shown by the wallet he carries, which seems to get him a little bit of razzing. Even so, he will never tolerate anyone "disparaging" the Man of Steel, explaining how his love for Clark Kent actually improves his work as an agent. Fans can watch the video below.

Co-created by Latoya Morganand J.J. Abrams, the brand-new original series Duster has been lighting up the recently renamed HBO Max despite being just two episodes in. The HBO Max thriller series Duster has been impressing the critics since premiering on streaming earlier this month. After two episodes, the show has been maintaining a near-perfect score with the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
Currently, Duster has an approval rating of 92%, labeling the show as Certified Fresh. Its audience score is also strong, sitting at 81%. The new series, a crime drama set in the early 1970s, is noted to not be without its flaws by critics. Even so, almost every critic is satisfied with the series, with many describing it as a fun throwback to the kinds of movies that are from the era.
"With a tangy 1970s look and feel, Duster shifts gears confidently between violent cliffhanger crises and knockabout humor," TV Insider critic Matt Roush said of the show. "Strap in for the joyride."

After the events of the first episode, we know Jim (Josh Holloway) and Nina (Rachel Hilson) have their work cut out for them if they’re going to bring down Saxton (Keith David) and his crew. How does that work progress in episode 2 on HBO? Well, it’s not without its challenges. Let’s dive into this week’s action in Duster season 1 episode 2, "Suspicious Minds." Spoilers Below.
Duster on Max A grave in the desert
Living near Phoenix, especially a less developed city in the early 1970s, has its advantages. It means you’re never far from a desolate place to stash a body. That turns out to come in handy for Jim as he’s burying someone—or trying to—as we open the episode. But it’s not easy. His shovel breaks. Then, another car comes up on him. Is he cooked?

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Duster” Episode 2.
Adrienne Barbeau, best known for the films she made with ex-husband John Carpenter, including “The Fog” and “Escape From New York,” guest stars in this week’s episode of “Duster” as an FBI agent’s secretive wife.
The ep also includes a different actress playing Barbeau as she might have looked in 1972. The younger Barbeau (played by Mikaela Hoover of James Gunn’s “Superman”), helps lead character Jim Ellis (Josh Holloway) by distracting an older businessman so Jim can steal a valuable pair of Elvis Presley’s blue suede shoes.
Barbeau spoke to TheWrap about having someone play her as a character for the first time — the 79-year-old actress said she was “tickled pink.”

Josh Holloway is currently blazing up the small screen with his new retro-themed J.J. Abrams series Duster. Our own Alex Maidy foundthe series enjoyable and said in his review, “Duster works well as an overall series with the finale setting things up for a bolder and potentially different second season. While I think that Rachel Hilson and Josh Holloway work well opposite one another, I believe Duster could have worked just as well with the focus entirely on Jim Ellis. Not looking a day older than he did when Lost premiered two decades ago, it is long overdue that Holloway gets a project as perfect for him as Duster.”
Holloway is making the press rounds and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, while on Sirius Xm’s The Julia Cunningham Show, he revealed that his death scene in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was much more elaborate than what made the final cut.

“Duster,” the new Max crime series from J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan, initially pits getaway driver and career criminal Jim Ellis (Josh Holloway of “Lost”) and rookie FBI agent Nina Hayes (Rachel Hilson) … until they realize they might have a common enemy in Jim’s boss Ezra Saxton (Keith David).
TheWrap spoke to Morgan, as well as Holloway and Hilson, about the shifting dynamic between the two lead characters and how they go from wary distrust to actually becoming partners in a way.
I love how these characters play off of each other.
Series co-creator Latoya Morgan: We knew from the beginning that if Jim was going to be this crazy criminal in this crime syndicate, that we had to have a really badass law enforcement officer coming after him. And that’s where Nina comes in.

The ’70s are back, baby — and this time, they’ve brought Josh Holloway, a blood-soaked baseball bat, and a whole lot of dust-kicking chaos with them.
In Duster’s electric series premiere, Max throws us into the sweltering heat of Arizona’s criminal underworld.

[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers for Duster‘s series premiere.] The opening scene of Duster finds Rachel Hilson‘s Nina Hayes stoically enduring a barrage of racist microaggressions from her boss at the FBI as he considers whether to grant her wish to report to a field office in Phoenix so she can partake in the investigation she wants to. It’s the 1970s, and these G-men aren’t used to seeing G-women, let alone a Black G-woman, wearing the same badge. Nina is the first of her kind, but although she is also treading all new territory in the same conversation about her future with the bureau, she knows exactly how to handle this man — with a smile. “That’s one of my favorite scenes,” Rachel Hilson told TV Insider of the opening exchange. “That was the scene I auditioned with, actually, and I think it gives you so much information about Nina right off the bat.

To say the heroes of “Duster” are united in their antipathy for The Man may be an oversimplification, but delivering simple pleasures also just happens to be what “Duster” does best.
FBI Agent Nina Hayes (Rachel Hilson) is a very good detective who enjoys being a very good detective. In a different time and place, the Philadelphia native and fresh graduate from Quantico may have been fast-tracked toward running her own department, but when it’s 1972 and you’re a Black woman in the United States, the biggest hurdle to any new investigation will always be the same double-whammy of in-house discrimination.
Despite her obvious capabilities, Hayes is hemmed in time and time again by her white, belittling bosses. She has to fight tooth-and-nail to get an open assignment no one else wants. Once she gets it, she has to overcome arbitrary deadlines, outwit adversarial should-be-allies, and surpass intentionally insurmountable standards.
