Laura Jane Turner (they/she) is a multi-award-winning Australian actor, director, and creative producer dedicated to elevating gender diverse and queer narratives in the arts. A First Class Honours graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts and SAE Institute, Laura has been a versatile storyteller for nearly fifteen years across screen and stage.
Their highly acclaimed short film, Curve - featuring Laura's award nominated, solo performance - premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, screened at over 60 festivals worldwide, won 17 awards-including Best Short Film at the Sitges Film Festival-and has amassed over 17 million views online. Recent theatre credits include Some Girl(s), directed by Wentworth's Georgia Chara, and Slightly Cracked, presented at La Mama Courthouse, which drew on extensive research into women's mental health experiences.
As the founder of F Word Films, established in 2017, Laura champions stories led by women and gender-diverse individuals. Their diverse body of work includes the feminist short film, The Testosterone Club, adapted from Cate Kennedy's short story, and the sapphic, bush ranger drama, Ballad, which premiered at the Geelong Pride Film Festival.
Laura's commitment to inclusive and equitable creative environments reflects their belief in the transformative power of storytelling. They have received numerous accolades, including the 2022 Equity Foundation's Scholarship to attend Atlantic Acting School.
