Reeth Mazumder-Roberts is a multi-talented Indo-Canadian actress, writer, director, and producer based in Toronto. She identifies as a woman of color. Her directorial work spans both fiction and non-fiction storytelling. Reeth believes that every creative person's personal ethics and perspective towards life are reflected in their work, and she strives to express art through its diverse expressions. She has written, directed, and produced multiple shorts, features, and cinematic documentaries. Reeth also works on factual television shows as an Producer, Researcher, and Story Editor.
Reeth has a knack for portraying human drama and excels in depicting emotions, particularly with a vintage aesthetic and forgotten narratives. Before moving to Canada, Reeth started her career in India as an actress and producer. She is one of the few actresses from India who has successfully transitioned from Bollywood to World Cinema. Reeth has earned the moniker 'Festival Girl' for her films and has been a favorite at various international film festivals, including the Cannes International Film Festival. Reeth was born in Kolkata in a creatively inclined Bengali family. Her late grandfather, Nikunja Bhattacharya, was a veteran editor in Bengali cinema.
In 2011, Reeth began modeling in India and became the face of several leading brands. The same year, she landed the lead role in an Indo-Italian film, Visible Bra Straps. The film was screened in 25 international film festivals and won critical acclaim and numerous awards, including the Audience Choice award, Golden Palm, and Best Experimental Film. Reeth later acknowledged that this film changed her life overnight.
Reeth was chosen to showcase Asian talent at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival in a new feature called 'The Talent's Corner.' Afterward, she starred in international award-winning co-productions such as THE AU REVOIR, SWEN, and Porobashinee.
In 2016, Reeth made her screen debut in her home country with a film called A Scandall. The following year, she became the first Bollywood star to feature in a French metal song.
In 2017, Reeth moved to Canada to pursue her North American Dream and began her new journey as a Screenwriting student for Film and Television. In 2020, her film "You May Kiss the Bride" won her Best Woman Filmmaker (Canada), Best Canadian Short, and Audience Choice awards.
In 2023, Reeth directed her first Anthology Feature project, "GRIEF," and a Documentary Feature on a Canadian Human Trafficking Survivor titled "I was Sold."
Alongside her filmmaking career, Reeth is an academic who is pursuing a Master's degree in Film Practice. Furthermore, she is a Creative Leadership Award Winner and a Valedictorian for her graduating class of 2023 with a Bachelor of Creative Arts at Yorkville University, Canada.
