Regardt Steenekamp was born in the industrial city of Vereeniging, South Africa. At the age of 12, his family immigrated to Australia in hopes of providing him and his younger brother a better future. At 21 years old, Steenekamp produced and directed his first feature, Charge Over You (2010). In 2010, he followed through on a life-long dream and moved to Los Angeles to pursue more significant opportunities in the American film industry.
