Thomas is a dual Australian and British citizen.

Graduated from Victoria College of the Arts in 2008.

In 2012 a promotional image of Thomas and co-star Melanie Zanetti for Queensland Theatre Company's production Romeo and Juliet was removed, after a complaint to the Advertising Standards Bureau. The ASB deemed it depicted a "teenager in a highly sexualised image". Regardless of Zanetti's actual age (26) the actress appeared "very young - at most a young teenager".
