French TV Screenings: ‘Agatha Christie’s Criminal Games’ & ‘Syndrome E’ Sell As Sky Italia, Canada’s CBC & Others Swoop

Exclusive: Sky Italia and CBC are among the international buyers swooping for Gallic content following last week’s inaugural French TV Screenings.

Local distributors are calling the event a success and are hopeful it will become a fixture in the international calendar.

Nine French sales houses held screenings events over two days as part of Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris at the Club de l’Etoile. With 106 buyers in town, deals were always likely. Deadline has learned Newen Connect and France TV Distribution were among those to strike international sales.

France TV Distribution sold library title Agatha Christie’s Criminal Games to Sky Italia Seasons 1 and 2. First airing in France in 2009, the light crime drama is a French adaptation of novelist Agatha Christie’s murder mystery stories.

Exclusive: Other Angle also closed deals on

Paris-based Other Angle Pictures has secured fresh sales on Nicolas Benamou’s action comedy Full Speed, about a vacation-bound family stuck in a car jammed on top cruise control.

In Cannes, the company has sealed deals to Spain (Vertigo), Portugal (Films4U), Japan (Gaga), Korea (Smile) and a Chinese deal is in the works. Previously announced deals include to Italy (Lucky Red), Russia (Volga), Benelux (Belga), Wild Bunch (Germany), Czech (Bohemia), Hungary (Cinetel), Turkey (Fabula).

Wild Bunch Distribution (Wbd) will release the film in France in December.

First production

The company has also secured fresh sales on Don’t Tell Her, about three friends who decide not to tell a fourth friend that her future husband had an affair with a man, to Switzerland (Jmh), Austria (Thym), Latam (California), Turkey (Fabula). It will be released by Sony in France.

Paris-based Other Angle Pictures is reporting strong sales on its comedy-driven slate, with Full Speed, A Mighty Team and The Roommates Party leading the pack.

Nicolas Benamou’s action comedy Full Speed, about a vacation-bound family stuck in a car jammed on top cruise control, has sold to Germany (Wild Bunch), Benelux (Belga), Italy (Lucky Red), Russia (Volga), Hungary (Cinetel), Portugal (Films4U), Czech Republic (Bohemia) and Turkey (Fabula).

Wild Bunch Distribution (Wbd) will release the film in France in December.

The Roommates, revolving around a wealthy Parisian forced to share his apartment with less well-off citizens under a new law, has sold to Benelux (O’Brother), Germany (Square One), Italy (Italian International Film), Greece (Tanweer), Portugal (Films4U) and Turkey (Fabula).

Exclusive: Last Call for Nowhere sold to Neue Visionen for Germany and Frenetic for Switzerland.

TF1 International has boarded Last Call For Nowhere, the latest film from director Philippe de Chauveron, whose French comedy hit Serial (Bad) Weddings grossed $172m worldwide in 2014.

Two distributors who enjoyed success with Serial (Bad) Weddings have already jumped on board. Neue Visionen has acquired the new film for Germany, where Serial (Bad) Weddings topped the box office and drew 3.9m admissions, while Frenetic has taken Swiss rights.

Last Call reunites de Chauveron with Serial (Bad) Weddings co-stars Ary Abittan and Medi Sadoun. Abittan plays José Fernandez, a French border officer sent to Malta to execute an extradition order against Sadoun’s Akim, a man wrongly accused of committing terrorist offences. Fernandez is supposed to accompany Akim on a flight to Kabul, but Akim has other ideas. When he escapes, a wild goose chase across the island ensues.
