Biography

    • Huan Vu's parents came to Germany in the '70s as guest students from Vietnam and stayed after the Fall of Saigon and the end of the war. He was born in 1982 in Stuttgart, West Germany. Originating from a torn nation and growing up in another divided country, borders and limits have always been something in Vu's mind that had to be probed, pushed and contested.

Before graduating from Stuttgart Media University in 2008, Huan Vu created the fan film "Damnatus", based on the highly successful sci-fie tabletop game "Warhammer 40,000". It was ultimately taken offline by Games Workshop, the owner of the intellectual property, but not before gaining a considerable fan base. This caused a debate about freedom of fan art and limitations of international copyright laws, which was featured by the BBC and the University of Leeds.

Vu's second indie feature film, "Die Farbe", based on H.P. Lovecraft's classic sci-fie/horror story "The Colour Out of Space", was completed in 2010 and won awards at several international genre film festivals, including a nomination for Méliès d'Argent at the Lund International Fantastic Film Festival in Sweden. It has since been published via self-distribution and through retailers in Scandinavia and North America.
