Oscars Joke Writer Won $50 Bet Over Conan O’Brien’s Kendrick Lamar-Drake Joke: ‘I Also Wrote the “Conclave” Joke About the Catholic Church’
Image
Conan O’Brien shocked the Oscars with a joke about the ongoing beef between rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake, and it’s one that earned the joke writer some cash. Comedian and writer Skyler Higley was the brains behind the joke, and he revealed on X during the show: “Wrote the Kendrick Lamar joke and bet our executive producer $50 that it would kill. Just made $50.”

Higley, who writes for CBS’ “After Midnight” and previously worked with O’Brien on his TBS talk show “Conan,” was one of several writers who worked on the 2025 Oscars. The staff also included Amberia Allen, José Arroyo, Josh Comers, Dan Cronin, Jessie Gaskell, Berkley Johnson, Ian Karmel, Brian Kiley, Laurie Kilmartin, Carol Leifer, Jon Macks, Matt O’Brien, Agathe Panaretos and Mike Sweeney.

At the midway point of the Oscars ceremony, O’Brien walked out on stage and joked: “We’re halfway through the show, which means...

Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz, Bowen Yang to Present at 2025 Oscars
Image
Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz, Elle Fanning, Whoopi Goldberg, Scarlett Johansson, John Lithgow, Amy Poehler, June Squibb and Bowen Yang will be presenting at the 2025 Oscars, the Academy announced on Tuesday. They join last year’s acting winners Robert Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Emma Stone in handing out statuettes on March 2, when the 97th Academy Awards take place at the Dolby Theatre Ovation Hollywood, hosted by Conan O’Brien.

As previously announced, the show will see the return of the “Fab 5” format, where previous winners stand on stage and heap praise on each of this year’s nominees. In the past, the format has been used for the acting categories, but not this year, given the implosion of “Emilia Pérez” lead actress Karla Sofía Gascón’s campaign due to her history of bigoted tweets. Instead, five previous winners will assemble to highlight below-the-line talent.

Farewell, James Corden: How ‘The Late Late Show’ Host Said Goodbye To His CBS Show
Image
Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from James Corden’s primetime special and final installment of The Late Late Show on CBS.

So long, James Corden. The affable Brit who took over for Craig Ferguson in 2015 ended his eight-year run as host of CBS’ The Late Late Show on Thursday.

To help say goodbye to its late-night star, CBS set aside an hour in primetime for a pre-taped special that included video montages and candy-coated skits so Corden could show off his singing chops. First up: a musical number with Corden, who stood on top of the old Television City building to sing a rendition of Donna Summer’s “Last Dance” — but in this case, it was changed to “Last Show.”

That was followed by a playful bit with Tom Cruise, who agreed to perform with Corden in a Hollywood staging of The Lion King. With Cruise as the warthog and Corden as the meerkat,...

Corden Roasts Trump for Praising Chinese President’s ‘Beautiful Female Interpreter': ‘Could Start Wwiii’ by Getting ‘Too Horny’ (Video)
Donald Trump
Twice-impeached and now-indicted former president Donald Trump made a point to compliment a female employee of Chinese president Xi Jingping during his interview with Tucker Carlson this week, and on Wednesday night, CBS late night host James Corden was simply exhausted by it.

In the interview on Tuesday, Trump spent a fair bit of time complimenting Chinese leader Xi Jinping, calling him “a brilliant man” and saying no one could ever capture his “look, the brain, the whole thing.” Trump then complimented Jinping’s translator for some reason.

“He had an incredible — I’m not allowed to say it because it’s very impolite and very politically incorrect — a beautiful female interpreter,” Trump said.

In watching the clip on Wednesday night’s show, Corden simply hung his head in his hand in exasperation.

Joe Rogan Under Fire From Adl & Other Comedians For Spreading “Vicious Lies About The Jewish People” On Spotify Show
Image
No stranger to controversy, Joe Rogan this week offered the following generalization about Jews on his massively popular Spotify show: “The idea that Jewish people are not into money is ridiculous. That’s like saying Italians aren’t into pizza.”

Rogan was speaking to onetime MSNBC contributor Krystal Ball about Rep. Ilhan Omar’s 2019 tweet that Israel’s defenders in the U.S. were motivated solely by money.

“It’s all about the Benjamins baby,” wrote Omar at the time. The tweet drew a swift rebuke from leaders on both sides of the aisle, including then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Omar later recanted, writing, “I unequivocally apologize.”

The Spotify host’s statements this week were part of a conversation about Rep. Adam Schiff.

“It’s crazy,” said Rogan. “Did you see him sitting next to Ilhan Omar, where she’s apologizing for talking about it’s all about the Benjamins?...

‘We Don’t Talk About Jada': James Corden Recaps the Oscars With ‘Encanto’ Parody (Video)
James Corden
James Corden used Monday night’s episode of his show to recap everything that went down at the Oscars this year — well, except for one thing. In an “Encanto” parody called “We Don’t Talk About Jada,” Corden poked fun at the biggest moment of the night.

To start the bit, the camera panned over Corden and his staff preparing for the night’s show, trying to decide what they wanted to talk about during the show. Head writer Ian Karmel kept trying to steer Corden and the group toward the obvious — Will Smith’s on-stage slapping of Chris Rock — but the host cut him off.

“No. You saw what happened,” Corden said. “We have to talk about something else.”

As another writer tried to back up Karmel, Corden remained firm, saying “No. We don’t talk about Jada. No, no, no.”

And of course, that’s when the music kicked in.

Matthew Lewis
Watch James Corden and His Team Thirst Over Neville Longbottom (Video)
Matthew Lewis
“Harry Potter” fans have known for a long while now that Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom in the franchise, had a serious glow-up following his puberty years. But evidently, “The Late Late Show” host James Corden was unaware — at least until Tuesday night.

Before getting into the meat of the show, Corden admitted that he was exhausted, because he couldn’t sleep after doing a live TV interview at 4:30 a.m. So, Corden asked various members of his crew what they did the night before, in the hopes it was a better night than his, prompting several to admit that they watched HBO Max’s “Return to Hogwarts” reunion special. And with that, came a startling realization for all of them.

“You know that dude who played Neville Longbottom in the movies?” head writer Ian Karmel asked. “He’s like super handsome now.”

Corden admitted he hasn’t yet seen the special,...

James Corden Looks Back at 1,000 Episodes of ‘The Late Late Show’ as He Mulls Whether to Renew His Deal
Image
After a hosting “The Late Late Show” for a thousand episodes, James Corden now knows why his gig is so coveted. “These are very difficult jobs to leave, because you work with incredible people and you do something that’s really amazing every day,” he said. “I never used to understand before I started this, how people could do these [talk show hosting] jobs for 15, 20, 25 years. But I see it now.”

Corden, who is in the midst of discussing his future with CBS — his contract is up next August — told Variety that he’s not sure yet how or when he’ll decide what to do. “I’m so conscious of wanting it to always be fresh,” he said. “I want it to always be fresh and alive. And in the same token, I never really saw this job as a final destination. I saw it as a stop on a journey. So...

Norm Macdonald Late Night Tributes: Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, James Corden & Others Remember “Absolute Comedy Legend” – Update
Image
Update, with Fallon Late-night hosts across networks paid tribute on Tuesday to Norm Macdonald, who died earlier in the day, following a nine-year, private battle with cancer, at age 61.

The most detailed and personal tributes came from two former Saturday Night Live cast members who, like Macdonald, had anchored the “Weekend Update” desk: Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon.

The host of Late Night, Meyers called Mcconald a “fantastic comedian.”

“He was the gold standard, and he will continue to be the gold standard,” Meyers said. “I would just suggest that everybody go watch him tell the moth story on Conan, go watch any number of Norm Macdonald things tonight, because they are really, truly timeless.”

Meyers noted while Macdonald’s passing is “tragic”, he doesn’t believe the comic would want to hear “anything sentimental” said about him. He therefore dedicated much of his tribute to his favorite Macdonald jokes...

Barack Obama Offers ‘The Late Late Show’s Ian Karmel Advice On Dating Amid Pandemic – Watch
Image
On Monday’s edition of The Late Late Show with James Corden, former U.S. president Barack Obama sat down in the hot seat and fielded some tough questions, both from Corden and his co-head writer, Ian Karmel.

In a clip from the episode, which airs at 12:37 a.m. on CBS, Karmel tells Obama about a dating conundrum he’s facing amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“My girlfriend and I started dating during the pandemic, and we already live together, but we’ve never actually had a real first date,” Corden’s late-night sidekick says. “Now that the world is opening back up again, I wonder if you have any advice for what we should do. What should that first date be?”

In the first part of his response, Obama notes that Karmel is “rocking” the jacket he’s wearing, suggesting that he wear it on his first date.

“Second of all,...

Survivor : États-Unis (2000)
Never mind, ‘The Amazing Race 32’ won’t premiere in May anymore, so take it out of your Emmy predictions
Survivor : États-Unis (2000)
Remember how “The Amazing Race 32” was going to premiere next month? Just kidding. That’s not happening anymore.

Originally slated to take over “Survivor’s” Wednesdays-at-8 timeslot on May 20, “The Amazing Race” will now premiere later in 2020, with no date specified, CBS announced Wednesday.

Season 32 was filmed in November and December 2018, so the show will be coming up on a two-year gap between production and premiere by the time it airs. Last June, host Phil Keoghan told to Gold Derby that the season, which he teased as “back to basics,” was in post-production.

The postponement also takes “The Amazing Race” out of the Emmys for the first time since the Best Competition Program category was created in 2003. A 10-time champ, it most recently won in 2014.

The Amazing Race (2001)
The Amazing Race Postponed as CBS Schedules New Summer Reality Series
The Amazing Race (2001)
The Amazing Race has been pulled from the CBS schedule.

The hit reality series was set to return Wednesday, May 20, but has been bumped to later in the year by the network.

While no reason for the delay was given, the network likely wants to keep the series in case it has little to no shows ready for the fall.

With the coronavirus-induced shutdown continuing, there's a good chance of that happening.

Still, it's unfortunate for fans of the series who have been waiting for the return of the reality series.

The network has confirmed two new summer reality series.

The new shows are the James Corden-produced Game On, which debuts May 20, and Tough as Nails, hosted and executive produced by The Amazing Race's Phil Keoghan, premiering July 8.

CBS will also be without summer staple Big Brother and the second season of Love Island, both of which are...

CBS Postpones Amazing Race's Return, Schedules New Summer Reality Series
The Amazing Race (2001)
CBS has scheduled two new reality series for this summer, and in doing so also postponed the lonnnng-awaited return of The Amazing Race.

Season 32 of The Amazing Race, which had completed production prior to the pandemic and was originally set to premiere Wednesday, May 20, instead will arrive later in 2020, given the Emmy-winning series’ value to the network as a “utility player” that can air on any night and in any time period — highly important with the fate of so many returning and possibly new fall series up in the air during the ongoing production shutdown.

Rob Gronkowski Says He’ll Return to the NFL – But Only If the Patriots Sign James Corden (Video)
One of the most repeatedly asked questions in the NFL this season continues to be is if former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is going to come out of retirement. And James Corden, of all people, may hold the key to the three-time Super Bowl champion’s return to the field.

Gronkowski was a surprise guest on Corden’s “Late Late Show” Thursday night, and not just because he happened to be on the CBS lot filming the host’s new sports-themed show “Game On!” this week.

The three-time Super Bowl champion, who officially announced his retirement from the NFL in March, said he’s loving his post-football career of TV gigs, working out and new business ventures.

CBS has tapped Friends From College actor Keegan-Michael Key to the host the remake of James Corden’s BAFTA-winning Sky game show A League Of Their Own.

In Game On!, Key will sit in the seat Corden occupies on the UK version of the format, presiding over two teams navigating rounds of sporting questions and physical challenges, such as sumo wrestling.

The teams will be led by tennis superstar Venus Williams and Rob Gronkowski, who has won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots.

They will be joined by regulars Bobby Lee (Mad TV), an actor and comedian, and Ian Karmel, an Emmy Award-winning writer on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

Game On! will be produced by Corden’s production company Fulwell 73, Cpl Productions — which created the UK series — and CBS’s Eye Productions.

Ben Winston, James Corden and Emma Conway are executive producers for Fulwell,...

CBS Orders Sports Game Show From James Corden, Sets Keegan-Michael Key as Host
CBS is serving up another show from the mind of James Corden.

This time, the network has issued an order for “Game On!,” an equal parts comedy and game show based on the popular U.K. series “A League of Their Own,” which Corden hosts.

Keegan-Michael Key has been tapped to host the U.S. version, which will feature tennis champion Venus Williams and New England Patriots Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski as team captains. Actor and comedian Bobby Lee, best known for his work on “Mad TV,” and “Late, Late Show” co-head writer Ian Karmel will serve as comedian panelists.

According to CBS, “Game On!” will pit two teams of three, captained by Williams and Gronkowski, against each other. The teams will be comprised of a rotating mix of sports stars, comedians and celebrities. Both sides will go head-to-head in over-the-top physical challenges, such as seeing who can dunk...

The Internet Is Seriously Split on How to Pronounce Blink-182
How do you pronounce Blink 182 the right way? This question was on the mind of everyone on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon.  It all began when The Late Late Show with James Corden 's co-head writer and stand-up comedian Ian Karmel started a Twitter forum with the '90s band members Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge. In what would become a viral moment, he said that the British call Blink-182 differently that Americans, saying "The British call Blink-182 'Blink One Eight Two' and I'm not saying that's Why they lost the Revolutionary War, but..."  And his boss James Corden even weighed in by replying to Ian's tweet. The host surprised the Twitter...

Louis Ck’s Stand-Up Return Sparks Outcry: ‘Get the F— Offstage’
Louis C.K.
Louis C.K.’s surprising return Sunday to the stand-up stage was met with heavy criticism after he performed a set at New York’s Comedy Cellar.

“Louis Ck being ‘banished’ from stand-up comedy wasn’t some kind of petty punishment, it was a f—ing workplace safety issue,” tweeted fellow comedian Ian Karmel, in a lengthy thread. “Can you imagine the bank you’re working at hiring back the guy who jacked off in front of women without their consent because it had been like, a year or something?”

Comic Dan Telfer was more blunt, telling C.K. in a tweet to “get the f— offstage,” adding, “If you repeatedly undermine other people’s careers so you can trap these human beings and force them to witness you masturbate then you don’t get that career anymore.”

‘The Comedy Lineup’ Review: Netflix’s New Standup Collection is More Than Just Sets for Short Attention Spans
Easy as it might be to lump it all into one category, not all standup on Netflix is created equal. In 2018 alone, the service has made available a new offering every week to fuel the interests (and algorithmic preferences) of comedy die-hards and casual viewers alike.

Some of these come in the form of star-driven, one-night-only events, others in small collections of multiple specials. This week brings the arrival of “The Comedy Lineup,” the second omnibus grouping of bite-sized sets designed to give audiences more new favorites for their time. Unlike its companion collection “The Standups,” episodes in “The Comedy Lineup” are an even more digestible 15 minutes versus the half hours that came earlier in the year from people like Aparna Nancherla, Gina Yashere, and Kyle Kinane.

With that more condensed timeframe comes an even wider variety of comics on display in “The Comedy Lineup,” which brings together eight comedians,...

Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel on 'Crash Test' and the tyranny of @Fatjew
Backstage Elysian Theater, LA, CA
Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel have plenty in common: endless improv chops, an appreciation for terrible cinema (Scheer hosts the podcast "How Did This Get Made?" about lame movies; Huebel hosts the La Upright Citizens Brigade revue "The Shit Show" where guests discuss their worst performances and gigs), and now, the experience of performing together on a giant glass bus. Their new special "Crash Test" sees the comics entertaining an audience on a large party bus as it travels through Los Angeles. On their journey, they meet fellow comics Aziz Ansari, Andy Daly, Rob Corddry, Aubrey Plaza, Natasha Leggero, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, Ian Karmel, and more. It's a wild ensemble held together by Scheer and Huebel's vaudevillian stamina. We caught up with Scheer and Huebel to discuss friendship in the comedy community, the greatness of bad movies, and what to think of the plagiarism scandal surrounding Twitter star Josh Ostrovsky,...
