The 2025 edition of Mubi Fest is almost here. IndieWire can announce the global dates of international experience Mubi Fest, starting with its return to Chicago April 26 to 27. This year, Mubi Fest expands to to 11 cities globally, concluding in Glasgow from November 28 to 30.

The U.S. branch will have a special screening of Alex Ross Perry’s “Pavements,” with Perry in-person for a Q&a. Amalia Ulman’s “Magic Farm” will also be among the previews at the Salt Shed and The Music Box Theatre. The full festival schedule will be announced soon.

Perry’s “Pavements” is a faux documentary about the real band of the same name. The film stars Joe Keery, Fred Hechinger, Nat Wolff, Jason Schwartzman, Logan Miller, Griffin Newman, Tim Heidecker, Michael Esper, Zoe Lister-Jones, and Kathryn Gallagher. “Pavements” will be released by Utopia May 2.

The “Her Smell” director helms the movie within a movie about Pavement, the ’90s American alternative group. Since Woman of the Hour debuted on Netflix last month, the series has been consistently holding a spot in the Top 10 list on the Reelgood streaming chart. The 23-year-old actress was feted at a party to celebrate her Variety Magazine cover on Sunday (October 6) at Saint Theo’s in New York City.

The event, presented by Film Alulua, also celebrated the New Power of New York List. Rachel was also seen meeting up with friends Kathryn Gallagher and Ella Hunt.

Rachel is currently starring on Broadway opposite Kit in a new production of Romeo + Juliet at the Circle in the Square theatre. The show is already a hit with its first week of preview performances completely sold out and additional dates added due to demand.

Update: Netflix has released a new trailer for Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut, Woman Of The Hour. The film follows a woman (played by Kendrick) who enters a TV dating show, but what she doesn’t know is that one of the bachelors is a serial killer, Rodney Alcala, played by Daniel Zovatto.

The film is set to head straight to Netflix and will appear on the service on 18th October, although it was previously thought the film would head into UK cinemas first.

Mubi has acquired “Pavements,” Alex Ross Perry’s unconventional documentary-musical-biopic about cult ’90s slacker band Pavement, for multiple territories following its recent world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

The arthouse distributor, streamer and production company has picked up all rights to the film — soon to bow in both the New York Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival — for the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Austria, France and Canada. Meanwhile, Mubi also acquired exclusive SVOD rights for the U.S.

The deal was signed with Utopia, which is handling world sales and, the day after the film’s Venice launch, announced it would also distribute theatrically in the U.S. Mubi says it will announce its release plans in the coming months.

Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air) delves into the true story of The Dating Game killer with her directorial debut Woman of the Hour. The teaser shows Kendrick playing a woman who gets a weird feeling from her date. And, it turns out, her instincts are spot-on.

“The stranger-than-fiction story of an aspiring actress in 1970s Los Angeles and a serial killer in the midst of a years-long murder spree, whose lives intersect when they’re cast on an episode of The Dating Game,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. It Follows‘ Daniel Zovatto stars as serial killer Rodney Alcala. Alcala was convicted of murdering five women, but it’s possible his death count is actually in the hundreds. He died in 2021 while awaiting execution.
