Juan Passarelli is a Guatemalan investigative journalist and filmmaker, based in Berlin. He is best known for his long-term documentation of WikiLeaks and the case of Julian Assange, culminating in his role as co-producer and cinematographer of The Six Billion Dollar Man (2025), which premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
Passarelli directed The Engineer (2013), a documentary on mass graves in El Salvador; The War on Journalism: The Case of Julian Assange (2020), which explores how the prosecution of Assange threatens press freedom worldwide; and Europe's Last Dictator (2012), which investigates the authoritarian regime of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. His footage has been featured in several prominent documentaries, including the Academy Award-winning Citizenfour and Terminal F: Chasing Edward Snowden (2015). With over 15 years of experience, he brings visual and narrative depth to stories often overlooked by mainstream media.
