Image
“Adventure Time: Distant Lands” executive producer Adam Muto and stars Glory Curda, Michaela Dietz, Olivia Olson and Niki Yang joined for a virtual panel as part of San Diego Comic-Con@Home on Friday, during which they teased the second special, “Obsidian.” They also revealed some details about the upcoming episode, including the new character Glassboy, Marceline and Bubblegum’s relationship, Marceline’s new music and more.

Here are the takeaways on “Obsidian,” the upcoming special of “Adventure Time: Distant Lands,” that is due to release on HBO Max this year.

The Story Will Follow Marceline’s Character Development

In Cartoon Network’s “Adventure Time” series timeline, Marceline’s life predates Finn and Jake’s. Olson, who voices Marceline, shared that “Obsidian” follows Marceline “getting over some of the barriers she’s put up in place for herself.”

“She’s gone through lifetimes of ups and downs with different people and seen them come and go,...

Comic-Con ‘At Home’ Friday Schedule: Charlize Theron, ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Helstrom’
Image
This year’s virtual Comic-Con@Home has announced its schedule for Friday, July 24. The highlights are below.

The virtual event replaces the annual San Diego Comic-Con, the largest fan convention in North America, which was to be held July 22–26 at the San Diego Convention Center, until the Covid-19 pandemic forced its cancellation.

In June, Comic-Con International — the non-profit organization that oversees Sdcc and its sister event, WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif. — announced it was moving forward with the virtual event on the same dates. This time, however, the event is free and open to all.

Friday’s events include panels for all three of AMC’s “Walking Dead” series, Hulu’s new Marvel series “Helstrom,” and creatives like Charlize Theron, Joss Whedon, and Robert Kirkman.

The Comic-Con@Home schedule — including Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23 — is being announced daily through Sunday.

All times are Pacific Daylight.

10–11 a.m.

‘Adventure Time: Distant Lands’ Review: Delightful HBO Max Special Turns Bmo Into the Star
Image
“Adventure Time” often seemed too good for this world. Over eight years and 10 seasons, Pendleton Ward’s cartoon odyssey was a colorful and quirky celebration of friendship that doubled as post-apocalyptic fantasy. Early on, the show oscillated from silly gags to poignant observations and back again, all while expanding on a rich and expansive mythology with boundless possibilities (at least until Cartoon Network pulled the plug). The extensive 2018 finale put a definitive end point on the exploits of human Jake and his shapeshifting talking dog pal Jake, but “Adventure Time” was always about waking up to a world much larger and sophisticated than any one person can discern. Finn and Jake were just two pieces in a much larger cosmic puzzle.

Enter “Bmo,” the first installment of “Adventure Time: Distant Lands,” a series of four specials produced for HBO Max. As promised by the title, “Bmo” adds a delightful new...
