Is The Santa Summit Worth Watching? (& Where To Stream The Hallmark Movie)
Image
2023’s The Santa Summit is one of the freshest-feeling Hallmark Christmas movies of the last few years, both because of its premise and how strongly it delivers on the ‘com’ side of the rom-com subgenre. Starring Hunter King, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Amy Groening, and Stephanie Sy, The Santa Summit manages to stand out among the dozens of holiday season Hallmark films from the premise alone, as it takes place at a convention for Santa Claus enthusiasts.

When it comes to settings that promise plenty of Christmas spirit, it’s hard to imagine many that can guarantee festive fun as much as an entire convention of Santa cosplayers. That’s not the reason The Santa Summit has been a hit though. It’s the heartwarming and hilarious adventure that awaits friends Jordin (King), Ava (Groening), and Stella (Sy) once they arrive that makes the 2023 Christmas rom-com worth watching - even for those...

Hallmark’s Hunter King Wants To Do ‘The Santa Summit’ Sequel
Image
Last Hallmark Christmas season, The Santa Summit was one of the top two movies of the network’s 2023 Countdown To Christmas programming. This holiday movie starred Hunter King and Benjamin Hollingsworth. They play two people who meet at an annual holiday event where everyone dresses up like Santa. After they lose each other, they each overcome their personal struggles as they spend time with friends and family.

This fun and festive movie was such a huge success. Could there be a sequel? Hunter King would like nothing more.

The Two Scoops Of Italy star recently spoke to US Magazine about her Hallmark movies including The Santa Summit. She revealed that she had the best time making this movie. “Everybody was so funny. Just even in between takes just, like, some of the funniest people I’ve ever met. But, they’re all incredible,...

King of Killers Review | Frank Grillo Slaughters the Competition
Image
A ruthless puppet master lures a grieving hit man into a deadly competition of assassins. King of Killers, adapted by Kevin Grevioux from his Darkstorm Comics graphic novel, is a swift and bloody actioner that goes in a surprisingly unexpected direction. Arteries spurt as limbs are sliced off like ham at the deli counter. Brutal beatdowns and stylized gunplay are followed with frenzied stabbing that would make Ghostface jealous. The film is a check your brain at the door adrenaline rush of violence. Frank Grillo, a Hollywood stalwart and one of my favorite actors, steals the show with a deliciously exaggerated performance.

Marcus Garan (Alain Moussi) strains as his mangled face is about to be driven through a wall spike. The film then cuts to a wintry scene a year earlier. A disguised Marcus casually walks into a bar. He observes a shady group of men heading towards the bathroom.

King of Killers Review
Image
Plot: Based on a graphic novel, King of Killers follows former Agency hitman Marcus Garan as he attempts to unravel the mystery behind a tragic incident. When offered a $10 million contract to eliminate the world’s greatest assassin, Marcus travels to Tokyo to meet the client, but discovers other professional killers have been invited as well. Now Marcus and the others must confront this deadly, mythical assassin…or die trying.

Review: Action movies are a dime a dozen, with only a select few getting the financial backing to get on the radar of most audiences. For every John Wick and Mission: Impossible, countless other projects are cobbled together for a fraction of the money allotted to the big franchises. Despite a cast that includes genre mainstays like Frank Grillo, Alain Moussi, and Stephen Dorff, King of Killers is an atrociously bad attempt to not only play with the big boys...

Jay Dahl, writer and director of There Are Monsters, is back after a five-year break from the genre with his latest film Halloween Party, an apparent love-letter to the horror films of the 90s and all the baggage associated with the films of the time.

They were known as the ‘Halloween Party’, a group of five badly disfigured children who made a pact to take revenge on a world who couldn’t look at them. Unwittingly released from their closet grave via a Halloween-themed computer meme, they now take malevolent joy in terrorising college students with their worst fears. Father’S Day

Stars: Adam Brooks, Matthew Kennedy, Conor Sweeney, Amy Groening, Garrett Hnatiuk, Brent Neale, Kevin Anderson, Meredith Sweeney, Zsuzsi | Written and Directed by Astron-6 (aka Adam Brooks, Jeremy Gillespie, Matthew Kennedy, Steven Kostanski, Conor Sweeney)

For people who remember older Troma movies like The Toxic Avenger they will remember that they were pretty gory. Kids were run over then got their heads squashed under car wheels, hell the violence and gore was at a high level, but the most important thing was they had a sense of humour. A lot of horror films don’t go for that sense of humour now, some may say we have lost that element of horror that we just aim for the gore and forget what fun horror can be. In ways that is true, but then came Father’s Day.

Father’s Day
There are a lot of fathers who birthed Father’s Day, the first collaboration between U.S. exploitation production company/distributor Troma Entertainment and Canadian filmmaking collective Astron-6, of which there are five members: Adam Brooks, Jeremy Gillespie, Conor Sweeney, Matt Kennedy and Steven Kostanski. And, yes, Lloyd Kaufman makes an amusing cameo in the film.

Overall, it’s a good marriage as Astron-6 knows precisely what to deliver to keep Troma audiences happy: Over-the-top gore, maniacal and non-sensical plot twists, bad jokes, lots of naked women and, especially, extreme mutilation of male genitals. One particular extended scene of self-mutilation of one character’s organ towards the end of the film crosses over from being a quick, gross-out gag to a “We dare you to watch this through to the end” act of visual sadism towards the audience.

All of the Astron-6 members pull down double, triple and sometimes quadruple...

Father's Day (2011)
Directed by: Astron 6

Starring: Adam Brooks. Matt Kennedy, Conor Sweeney, Amy Groening

I do not like Troma films. By most people's accounts this makes me a very bad horror fan. It's not my fault if I don't like watching movies that make me feel like I smell like a butt hole okay? Also, I just don't understand why anyone would want to smell like a butt hole Or why anyone would want to sit through an hour and a half of a movie that makes you feel like both vomiting and dying.

Before everyone starts getting all angry and posting mean comments on this review, I would like to remind you that I unlike say--Hitler---am capable of trying to understand someones point of view even if I do not agree with it myself. That is to say, I will still give Father's Day the honor of getting a fair review.

Troma's Father's Day Looks at Family Matters: A Movie Review
*a screener of this film was provided by Troma Entertainment.

Directors: Adam Brooks, Jeremy Gillespie, Matthew Kennedy, and Conor Sweeney.

Writers: Adam Brooks, Jeremy Gillespie, Matthew Kennedy and Steven Kostanski.

Cast: Astron-6: Adam Brooks, Matthew Kennedy, Conor Sweeney, Amy Groening, Garrett Hnatiuk, Brent Neale, Kevin Anderson, Meredith Sweeney, Zsuzsi, and Lloyd Kaufman.

Troma Entertainment is well known for its range of B movie craziness, and the schlock produced in Father's Day is different than their usual fare. It tries to be serious before slapping viewers with comedy. This film marks the debut of Astron-6, a new collective of filmmakers who quite enjoy stamping a grindhouse style onto their premiere product.

Although this tradition dates back to the days of early modern burlesque, the 30's and 70's vibe is replaced with more of the 80's style nostalgia. Here, Ahab (Adam Brooks) is out on a quest for revenge. He's after...
