HorRHIFFic 2025: ‘Horror-Scopes Volume 3: Dark Zodiac’ Review
Image
Stars: James Wren, Annabelle Rich, Mia Gill, Liam Prince Donnelly, Eve Oliver, Judith Haley-Lindwall, Rhydian Edbow, Abigail Hunt, Dani Thompson, Abayomi Oniyde, Nikolas Savvides, Robyn Adams, Ryan Haughey, Eliza Leonard, William Marshall, Ramanpreet Brar | Directed by Mj Dixon, Davin Jeayes, Tony Sands, Maria Lee Metheringham, Philip Rogers, Dani Thompson, Luna Wold, Richard Fish, Anna Dixon, Martin W Payne, Richard Elson, Andre Harrison

Horror-Scopes Volume 3: Dark Zodiac is the second in a series of annual anthology collections from independent film studio Mycho, which brings together multiple indie horror talents to tell twelve terrifying tales of, this time around, “dark zodiac” based horoscopes, encountering fate’s dark side: misfortune, fear, and terror.

First up on the zodiac is Aries and the tale is Oppressor: The Warlord, which is a series of talking heads following a number of doctors trying to cure a virus (think the 2020 pandemic) but each failing, and dying,...

HorRHIFFic 2025: ‘Wrath of Thorn’ Review
Image
Stars: Sophie Ash, Eve Kathryn Oliver, Paris Rivers, Mia, Lewis Cooper, Gareth Tidball, William Marshall, Mariana Gkila, Melissa Hollett, Andrew Elias, Pauline Peart, Sophie Stroud, Adam Lezemore, Sean Botha, Maria Lee Metheringham, Jon-Paul Gates | Written and Directed by Mj Dixon

Wrath of Thorn is the latest, and reportedly last, instalment in the Mychoverse series that spun out of the original Slasher House movie – itself now a franchise. This time round Dixon delves much, much, deeper into the lore surrounding the slasher-movie-inspired killer known as Thorn – intertwining past and present, flitting between the three films in the series to shed light on Thorn’s origins while propelling the narrative into uncharted territories. This duality not only enriches the storyline but also offers a fresh perspective for those long-time fans who’ve been following the Thorn franchise since 2014.

One of the standout aspects of the film is its character development. The protagonist,...

JoBlo TV roundup: Check out the free movies we shared this week! Death Cast, Pumpkins, & Game of Dragons
Maria Lee Metheringham and Will Metheringham in Pumpkins (2018)
At the end of September, JoBlo Media and Octane Multimedia teamed up to launch a new YouTube channel named JoBlo TV, which hosts multiple feature films to watch for free throughout the week. The genres we’ll be focusing on at JoBlo TV are Action, Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Thrillers – but for the month of October, we were celebrating Halloween all month long with our JoBlotober event. It was all horror all the time… and while the event is now over, as Halloween has come and gone, two of the three movies we released this week were still JoBlotober horror releases.

The movies that have been released on JoBlo TV over the last week are the slasher Death Cast, the supernatural horror film Pumpkins, and (to kick off November) the action fantasy film Game of Dragons. Here’s some information on each one of them:

Written and directed by Bobby Marinelli,...

Nightmares: Gene Fallaize thriller digs into the story behind one of the greatest horror movies of all time
Image
2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the release of writer/director Wes Craven’s classic A Nightmare on Elm Street (watch it Here), but there doesn’t appear to be any news about a revival of that franchise anywhere on the horizon. Meanwhile, Variety reports that writer/director Gene Fallaize is preparing to head into production on a new thriller called Nightmares – which sounds like it’s digging into the true story that inspired Craven to write the original Nightmare in the first place.

A Nightmare on Elm Street isn’t directly referenced anywhere in the Variety article, but when you take the title Nightmares and combine it with the synopsis, their report does seem to point in the direction of Elm Street. The synopsis says Fallaize’s script is based on the true story that became the basis one of the greatest horror movies of all time, following a journalist...

There aren’t too many horror flicks set in the county of Yorkshire, so when one comes along, my Yorkshireman ears prick up and I’m there, my northern soul ready to soak in “some ‘er that ‘orror”. Pumpkins is directed by Maria Lee Metheringham (The Photographer 2: Inside the Dark Room) who also wrote it with Will Metheringham (Snuff Reel), and is a full on traditional-style slasher picture set in North Yorkshire.

We meet a farmer who really loves his patch of pumpkins and encounters a couple of scumbag hooligans who torment him to death, quite literally. Unluckily for the douche-bag thugs who sent him to his grave, the farmer (Terry Wood) fell into some...

Horror-On-Sea 2018 Interview: Iona McKeown talks ‘Pumpkins’
Pumpkins is new 80′s style horror from writer and director Maria Lee Metheringham, which premiered at Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Sunday 21st January. I got chance to ask actress Iona McKeown a What we can expect from the film, what preparation she done for the role and what makes Pumpkins stand out in the genre.

What can we expect from the film Pumpkins?

You can expect a salute to the 80’s slasher Horror genre. I feel that Pumpkins is quite self-deprecating in its approach with its array of (at times slightly oblivious characters) getting picked off one by one, some untimely deaths and a great soundtrack!

Can you tell us a bit about your character?

Jen initially comes across as the cold, sarcastic, uncompromising member of the survival group who is intolerant of idiocy. As the plot develops and friendships grow between the other group members we see that she is brave,...

I got chance to ask actress Panda Marcella Edgecombe-Craig a few questions about making the film, her influences and adapting to changes during the shoot.

You can expect some nail biting 80’s style horror from start to finish, with a brilliant story.

Can you tell us a bit about your character?

My character Sam, is an odd ball slightly paranoid individual and a bit of a loner.

How did you become involved in the film?

Maria advertised the chance to audition via public media .and I jumped at the chance, as Maria (Lee Metheringham) and Will (Metheringham) are superb film makers and awesome people to boot. I submitted a video audition. And got the role.

What can we expect from the film Pumpkins?

Halloween themed horror set in Rural England.

Can you tell us a bit about your character?

Pam is the landlady of the village pub. She’s a bit of an out of towner, use to dealing with rowdy Londoners, so she won’t take any nonsense.

How did you become involved in the film?

I got chance to ask actress Maria Lee Metheringham about what attracted her to the character Mina Adams, What it was like working on set and what makes Mask of Thorn stand out in the horror genre.

What can we expect from Mask of Thorn?

Lots of action, running around, fighting, people freaking out and full on 80s awesomeness!

Can you tell us a bit about your character?

Mina Adams is a great character for me. Not only does she have the best costume, but she has an intense moodiness to her to go with it. She is badass but also has a softness to her, so it’s great to play a tough character who has some very...

What can we expect from the film Pumpkins?

I would describe Pumpkins as an Ambient/Atmospheric horror. It combines elements of 80′s style classic horror films rolled into one feature. It’s not meant to be a gore film but it is meant to be visually creepy, eerie and suspenseful. Hopefully you will experience the old school settings along with an atmospheric journey.

What was your inspiration for writing the film Pumpkins?

It started off as a short to be included in another 80s style horror feature film we were writing but we liked the story so much we turned...
