It was all horror all the time… and while the event is now over, as Halloween has come and gone, two of the three movies we released this week were still JoBlotober horror releases.

2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the release of writer/director Wes Craven’s classic A Nightmare on Elm Street (watch it Here), but there doesn’t appear to be any news about a revival of that franchise anywhere on the horizon. Meanwhile, Variety reports that writer/director Gene Fallaize is preparing to head into production on a new thriller called Nightmares – which sounds like it’s digging into the true story that inspired Craven to write the original Nightmare in the first place.

A Nightmare on Elm Street isn’t directly referenced anywhere in the Variety article, but when you take the title Nightmares and combine it with the synopsis, their report does seem to point in the direction of Elm Street. Writer and director Gene Fallaize, who helmed Kevin Spacey’s first post-acquittal feature “Control,” has set his next project, a thriller titled “Nightmares.”

Written by Fallaize, the film is based on a “true story that became the basis one of the greatest horror movies of all time, following a journalist attempting to uncover the truth behind several unexplained deaths,” according to the synopsis.

Casting is already underway with the film scheduled to begin production in London and L.A. early next year. Fallaize will direct while producers are Emily Hasseldine and Adam Southwick and Jayne Snipe. Jamie Walker and Maria Lee Metheringham will exec produce while Adam Hooper is an associate producer.

Fallaize’s production company Cupsogue Pictures are making the film.

Pumpkin-man gets his revenge this October! When a local farmer is the victim of a horrible joke gone wrong, bloody revenge becomes the only way to satisfy the monster he has become.

Assisted by his beloved pumpkins, a sweet farmer discovers that spilling blood is his new found glory to anyone who dares trespass on his private land. Unfortunately for a group of innocent survivalists, their survival skills are soon put to the test and the local villagers are soon dragged into the bloody fight. Will Metheringham scripted.

Maria Lee Metheringham's atmospheric horror treat Pumpkins comes to digital and DVD October 15 from High Octane Pictures. Pumkins stars Tamara Glynn, Dani Thompson,Gareth Hale Kat Clatworthy and Roland Marshall rolling onto disc and digital this October.

Following the world premiere of Pumpkins at Horror-on-Sea I got a chance to talk with co-writer and composer Will Metheringham and director Maria Lee Metheringham about writing together, the origins of the Pumpkin Man and their band Great Northern Hotel.

We are here for the world premiere of Pumpkins, is this the first feature which you have directed?

Maria – I have done other feature films, but they have all been about an hour long

Maria – We never took them around festivals either, they were straight to DVD releases and only went to America

I got chance to ask actress Iona McKeown a What we can expect from the film, what preparation she done for the role and what makes Pumpkins stand out in the genre.

What can we expect from the film Pumpkins?

You can expect a salute to the 80’s slasher Horror genre. I feel that Pumpkins is quite self-deprecating in its approach with its array of (at times slightly oblivious characters) getting picked off one by one, some untimely deaths and a great soundtrack!

Can you tell us a bit about your character?

Jen initially comes across as the cold, sarcastic, uncompromising member of the survival group who is intolerant of idiocy. As the plot develops and friendships grow between the other group members we see that she is brave,...

The Horror-on- Sea Film Festival is Southend’s annual horror event, which showcases the talents of Independent filmmakers, through shorts and features over two weekends. This is the 6th year it has been running and judging by the turn out for the first weekend this is going to be there biggest event yet.

What can we expect from the film Pumpkins?

You can expect some nail biting 80’s style horror from start to finish, with a brilliant story.

Can you tell us a bit about your character?

My character Sam, is an odd ball slightly paranoid individual and a bit of a loner.

How did you become involved in the film?

Maria advertised the chance to audition via public media .and I jumped at the chance, as Maria (Lee Metheringham) and Will (Metheringham) are superb film makers and awesome people to boot. I submitted a video audition. And got the role.

Pam is the landlady of the village pub. She’s a bit of an out of towner, use to dealing with rowdy Londoners, so she won’t take any nonsense.

How did you become involved in the film?

I’d almost worked with Maria a few times, we’d both been cast in a couple of projects together before that never got off the ground and we became friends...

A throwback to the classic 80 slashers from writer and director Mj Dixon, Mask of Thorn is the latest installment of the Thorn series. Mask of Thorn is being released by Mycho Entertainment and will be making its world premiere at Horror-on-Sea festival on Friday 19th January.
