Vyacheslav Uzelkov(1979-2024)
Vyacheslav Uzelkov is an Ukrainian professional boxer who competed in the light heavyweight category. WBA Inter-Continental, IBO International and WBO Inter-Continental light heavyweight champion.
The boy had a full physique, for which he got the nickname 'Boar' among children. Bullying from his peers offended Slava, but he could not fight back. The father of the future champion decided that his son should be able to stand up for himself, so at the age of 7 he took him to a boxing class. Tedious training twice a day took too much time and effort, thereby depriving Uzelkov of a normal childhood. However, over time, the guy got involved and, under the guidance of his first coach Dmitriy Shamis, worked hard in the gym every day.
The boxer's first significant success came in 1997 in Birmingham, when he became the European junior champion. In 2001, he became a bronze medalist at the World Championships, and a year later - European vice-champion in the weight category up to 91 kilograms.
Success at the amateur level gave the guy a ticket to a professional career, which he began at the age of 25 - quite a good time to realize his full potential. Usually Uzelkov boxed in Ukraine, but he also fought some fights abroad - in the USA, Monaco and Germany. In total, Vyacheslav had 34 fights in the professional ring, in which he scored 30 victories, 19 of which by knockout, and suffered 4 defeats.
