Tigist Helen Schmidt is an Ethiopian German filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. Through photography, film, performance, painting, textile, sculpture, sound, text and installation, she translates the complexity of social landscapes into lyrical and poetic forms. Her work has appeared at The Museum of Modern Art, Toronto Film Festival, SXSW, HBO, Tribeca Film Festival, The Kitchen, Gladstone Gallery, New Image Festival among many others. Tigist is an alumna of the Identity School of Acting Los Angeles, Tribeca Film Institute Lab and Independent Film Project fellow, and holds a MA in Communications, Culture and Society from Goldsmiths University of London.
