Biography

Rudy Riverón Sánchez is a multi-award winning writer and director, originally from Holguín, Cuba, but now based in the UK. He wrote and directed the feature film 'Is That You?' (¿Eres Tú, Papá?), the first psychological horror film to be made in Cuba, which won 10 festival awards, including the Sitges 2019 Blood Red Carpet Award for Best Promising Director; BIFAN 2019 Bucheon Choice Award, Jury's Choice for Feature Film; Richmond Int'l. Film Festival 2019 Grand Jury Prize Overall Best Feature Film; Fantaspoa Int'l. Fantastic Film Festival 2019 Winner Ibero-American Prize Best Film; Macabro: Int'l. Horror Film Festival of Mexico 2019 Winner Ibero Americano Award Best Director; ToHorror Fantastic Film Festival 2018 Anna Mondelli Award Best First Feature Film. 'Is That You?' was featured in The LA Times, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and many others.

Rudy started as an actor in theatre before studying Film Direction at 'El Instituto Superior de Arte' (ISA) in Havana, Cuba, while also working as a 2nd assistant director on channel Tele Rebelde at the Instituto Cubano de Radio y Television (ICRT). Following his move to the UK, he studied film at both undergraduate level, at York St. John University, and Masters level, at Leeds Northern Film School (MA Filmmaking). As an undergraduate, his short film 'Beyond Reach' was nominated for the 2009 Royal Television Society Student Award. He then worked on several low budget independent feature films, shorts, and music videos in a variety of roles. He is currently developing several film projects.
