‘Alice In Neverland’ In Development As Stage Musical, Merging Characters From Children’s Literature Classics

Alice in Neverland, an original musical that imagines a meeting between Lewis Carroll’s Alice and J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, is under development, with actors Christy Altomare (Anastasia), Heath Saunders and Will Swenson (Waitress) set to lead a developmental reading tomorrow.

With book, music and lyrics by Phil Kenny and Reston Williams, Alice in Neverland is being presented by team of Broadway producers that includes Jerry Goehring (Be More Chill), Jim Kierstead (Hadestown), Mike Evariste (Disgraced), Jamie deRoy (Beetlejuice) and 42nd.club (Anastasia).

The reading cast will also include Megan Masako Haley (Mean Girls), Alistair Brammer (Miss Saigon) and Timothy Hughes (Hadestown).

Also participating in the reading are M. Chase Grant, Kurt Hellerich, Claire Wilkins Kenny, Lisa Larsen, Mack, Beatriz Melo, Ryan Simmons, Scout Smith, Matt Walker, Kim Williams and Clotile Yanna.

‘Alice in Neverland,’ Musical About Iconic Fantasy Characters Meeting, in Development (Exclusive)

A new musical will serve as both a sequel to one of the greatest children’s stories of all time, as well as a prequel to another iconic fantasy adventure.

“Alice in Neverland” brings together two beloved characters, the title character from Lewis Carrol’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and the boy who never grew up at the center of J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan.” The show features book, music and lyrics by Phil Kenny and Reston Williams. Its producing team includes such Broadway heavyweights as Jerry Goehring, three-time Tony Award winner Jim Kierstead, Mike Evariste (“Disgraced”), seven- time Tony Award winner Jamie deRoy and 42nd.club.

Broadway’s Annual ‘Hocus Pocus’ Halloween Spoof Fundraiser Going Virtual

Exclusive: Broadway’s annual I Put A Spell On You concert-slash-party event to raise funds for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, will go virtual this year due to the pandemic. The concert event, hosted by characters spoofing the 1993 film Hocus Pocus, will feature performers from such productions as Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, Waitress, Mrs. Doubtfire, Moulin Rouge!, Mrs. Doubtfire, Hadestown and West Side Story.

The year’s pretaped event will stream for free on Thursday, Oct. 29, 8 pm/Et at broadwaycares.org/spell.

Created by and starring actor Jay Armstrong Johnson, I Put A Spell On You will include performances, choreography, and what organizers are calling “over-the-top costumes and makeup, unmatched production value and a healthy dose of Broadway magic.”

Chicago – As a wee lad, I would often go into my parent’s record collection. One day, out of the blue, that brown double album with the gold embossed angels appeared, like a gift from the divine. “Jesus Christ Superstar” began as a record album “rock opera” in 1970, evolved to a Broadway show and film, and then was interpreted through a myriad of stage revivals over the years. The latest is an exciting piece of stagecraft at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. The show has a various evening/matinee run through May 20th, 2018. Nymf Announces Its 2016 Winners
Another opening, another closing—the 2016 New York Musical Festival (Nymf) has officially ended, punctuating its successful run with an awards ceremony that found Broadway stars and newbies alike being recognized for their work. Among the better-known names who took home awards are Tony winner Victoria Clark, for directing, and former “Dames at Sea” diva Lesli Margherita, for her work in “A Scythe of Time.” The fest’s breakout was “Newton’s Cradle,” written by Heath and Kim Saunders and directed by Victoria Clark.
