The Groundlings to Host Improv Musical Fundraiser Featuring Ana Gasteyer, Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig and Will Forte
Image
The Groundlings will host an improv musical fundraising event on Oct. 26, featuring Ana Gasteyer, Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig and Will Forte. The event, held at the Performing Arts Center at Vista Del Mar, will benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund to support below-the-line workers impacted by the strikes.

“One Night Only,” created and directed by Groundlings Main Company member Andrew Leeds, is a full production of a well-known Broadway musical. The catch? The improvisers are given the script and their roles only 24 hours in advance.

“These strikes have taken a terrible toll on our amazing crews, and it isn’t over yet. Even with the WGA strike ending, most crew members won’t be able to start work again until the SAG-AFTRA deal is ratified,” Leeds said in a statement. “Even then, many will be fighting to survive as they wait for productions to start back up.

Is The River Wild Based On A True Story?
Image
The 2023 film The River Wild and its 1994 predecessor are not based on true stories, so viewers can rest assured that real-life tragedy did not occur during a whitewater rafting trip in Idaho. The original River Wild movie from 1994 drew inspiration from a fly-fishing article, highlighting the intriguing connection between two seemingly unrelated activities. The remake of the 1994 film was motivated by the original thriller but features a different storyline focused on estranged siblings and their disturbed childhood friend.

The River Wild documents a terrifying whitewater rafting trip where members of the group start turning up dead, so, of course, one must wonder if the film is based on a true story (and if they should avoid off-the-grid whitewater rafting trips in the future). The 2023 thriller movie, starring Leighton Meester, Adam Brody, and Taran Killam, focuses on three characters — Joey, Trevor, and Gray — reuniting to embark on a treacherous journey through desolate woods in Idaho.

Where Was The River Wild Filmed? The Remake's Filming Locations Explained
Image
Where to Watch Powered by The River Wild remake was filmed in Central and Eastern Europe, including Hungary, Slovakia, and Bosnia, to capture the spooky and treacherous aesthetic of the movie. The exact filming locations in these countries, including cities and landmarks, are mostly unknown, but it's possible that some scenes were shot near the Danube River. The cast, including Taran Killam, trained at an Olympic whitewater facility in Slovakia to prepare for the intense scenes in the movie.

The River Wild is a 2023 reimagining of the 1994 film starring Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon, and it takes viewers on a dangerous ride as the characters embark on a whitewater rafting trip that turns deadly fast. The 2023 movie, available to stream on Netflix, stars Leighton Meester as Joey, Taran Killam as Gray, and Adam Brody as Trevor, and the three of them have a past that comes into play as people...

Sean Hayes in Lazy Susan (2020)
‘Lazy Susan’: Film Review
Sean Hayes in Lazy Susan (2020)
Press materials for new indie comedy “Lazy Susan” stress “The character of Susan is a cisgender woman,” apparently for fear that viewers might otherwise assume star Sean Hayes is playing a transgender person. The fact that he’s not underlines this movie’s very fragile raison d’être: It’s supposed to be funny simply that a man in a dress and wig is portraying a “real” woman. Can that be funny? Well, sure. But is that alone, minus much else very special in the realms of performance or story or concept, funny enough to float a 90-minute movie all by itself?

Apparently not. “Lazy Susan” aims hazily between the sad-sack valentine likes of “Muriel’s Wedding” and something more satirically misanthropic, missing a target it never quite commits to in the first place. Starring “Will & Grace’s” Hayes as the title character, a suburban Wisconsin wallflower who makes herself...
