David Howard Thornton and Lauren LaVera in Terrifier 2 (2022)
Terrifier 2 (2022): Movie Ending, Explained – Is There a Sinister Connection Between Sienna and Art the Clown?
David Howard Thornton and Lauren LaVera in Terrifier 2 (2022)
Bringing the abominable Art the clown back to life – not that he needs any help with it; Terrifier 2 (2022) pushes the boundaries of blood-curdling gore with a mystical plot that furthers Art’s bloody secrets. The rotten, maggot-infested torture fest that has reportedly left cinemagoers not so shockingly sick is hardly just a darn good mindless slasher, unlike the first Terrifier (2016). It reflects in its domestic box that saw a massive jump of 84% in its third weekend of the release. With the sequel, Damien Leone gives the sadistic clown a more explored group of characters to brutalize, and this time Art gets to antagonize a true heroine with an angelic aura. But is that enough to take the ruthless, supernatural clown down?

A much more terrifying Pennywise; David Howard Thornton’s killing machine, Art the clown, made his first appearance in Leone’s horror anthology, All Hallow’s Eve. Being...

Ultra-Gory Horror Sequel With 87% Rotten Tomatoes Score Becomes Streaming Hit
Image
Terrifier 2 has become a major streaming hit as Terrifier 3 continues to dominate in theaters. Released in 2022, Art the Clown's (David Howard Thornton) second major outing is again directed by Damien Leone and serves as a follow-up to his microbudget hit from 2016. Terrifier 2 reviews were generally positive from critics, and the sequel, which sports an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes, was widely praised for its gruesome moments of extreme gore.

New data from Reelgood now reveals that Terrifier 2 ranks as the sixth most popular movie on streaming in the U.S. for the week of October 10 16. Art the Clown actually dominates two spots on this top 10 list, with Terrifier (2016) serving as the fifth most popular movie on streaming and the tenth most popular title overall. While the sequel is available to watch for free on Freevee, the original is streaming on Prime Video.

Why Terrifier 2s Bedroom Scene Is So Controversial
Image
Just when it seemed like modern slasher films were starting to lose steam, the Terrifier franchise stormed in to provide an incredible horror experience, thanks to Damien Leone's phenomenal direction and screenplay. The franchise has firmly established Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) as one of the most iconic villains of horror cinema, alongside Michael Myers, Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees, and many others.

The original Terrifier film was a huge success, generating over $400,000 on a $35,000 budget, but Terrifier 2 took things to the next level, earning a staggering $15.7 million on a $250,000 budget. While the majority of its success may be attributed to the significant rise in the production budget, the controversial bedroom sequence accounts for a large portion of the film's popularity. So, what exactly made it so controversial?

Terrifier 2 Got Creative With A Condom For One Of Its Wildest Kills
Image
Even though /Film's own Chris Evangelista dubbed 2016's "Terrifier" "crap," he did at least acknowledge that Damien Leone's ultra-low-budget slasher was "loaded with some incredibly practical gore." This has arguably been Leone's strongest suit across the ensuing sequels, with both 2022's "Terrifier 2" and 2024's "Terrifier 3" ratcheting the gore up to levels that defy explanation. As /FIlm's Jacob Hall wrote in his review of "Terrifier 3," "The biggest credit one can give the 'Terrifier 3' effects team is that it's frequently not at all clear how they're pulling these sequences off."

While the merits of Leone's brand of ultra-violence can be debated, his talent for creating practical effects simply can not. The man knows how to craft a sickeningly gory sequence and seemingly hasn't lost a step since his first "Terrifier" movie depicted a woman being sawn in half from the pelvis up. With "Terrifier 2,...

Terrifier 2's Bloodiest Kills, Ranked
Image
Damien Leone's grindhouse epic Terrifier 2 was an unexpected box-office smash. The film is on par with other iconic horror franchises like Halloween and Scream, thanks to effusive word-of-mouth from horror fanatics and a surprisingly positive reception from critics. Upping the ante on its predecessor, Terrifier 2 delivers some of the most eye-popping violence and gore to grace the silver screen, maybe ever.

Iconic villain Art the Clown has proven to be one of the most unrelentingly brutal horror villains ever. Terrifier 2 puts the deadly mime's predilection for barbarity on full display. But which of Art's dastardly displays of inhumanity is the worst? Does anyone in the grease-painted ghoul's path make it out unscathed? Grab those tiny top hats and get ready to count down Terrifier 2's most gruesome kills, from the tamest to the most terrifying.

One Of The Creepiest Scenes In Terrifier 2 Was A Total Accident [Exclusive]
Image
As most fans of the "Terrifier" series and Art the Clown know, the deadly deeds and mythology of the malevolent killer is an ever-changing, mercurial thing. Creator/writer/director Damien Leone's entire ethos with the character and these films is to constantly shock and surprise the audience, with Art literally and figuratively betraying the covenant of horror and slasher movies past. At any point and without warning, Art could turn up, take his own life, be resurrected, pull out either a butcher's knife or a gun, and generally be so unpredictable as to be supremely unsettling. Given this aesthetic, the "Terrifier" films have followed suit: the first appearance of Art in a feature was in "All Hallow's Eve," an anthology film partially made up of prior short films that Leone had already shot (including the initial "Terrifier" short). Next was the first "Terrifier" feature-length film, which involved a circular narrative structure.

"Be Prepared": Terrifier 3 Director Teases The One Kill Aimed To Surpass Terrifier 2's Bedroom Scene
Image
Terrifier 3 director Damien Leone has teased one kill in the forthcoming slasher sequel that's poised to surpass Terrifier 2's controversial bedroom scene. The second installment of the slasher franchise features its main antagonist, Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) murdering a girl named Allie (Casey Hartnett) in her bedroom over the course of several minutes. The series garnered its reputation for gore in the scene, which saw the girl die in an over-the-top, torturous fashion. Given the level of detail in the movie, its unclear if the upcoming sequel will be able to rival it.

However, speaking with Screen Rant, Leone explained how much writing Terrifier 3's kills involved competing not only with the previous installment, but also other movies in the genre, like Saw. The director highlighted how the kills in the franchise take established horror tropes and put new spins on them, with Psycho being...

Art The Clown Actor Teases His Favorite Terrifier 3 Kill: "Such An Over-The-Top, Crazy Kill"
Image
Art the Clown actor David Howard Thornton has revealed his favorite kill in Terrifier 3, explaining that it's one that has importance and relevance to the plot of the film. The upcoming Terrifier 3 sees Art the Clown return, this time during the Christmas season, seeking revenge against Sienna Shaw (Lauren Lavera) for killing him in the previous movie. Written and directed by franchise creator Damien Leone, the movie is expected to have plenty of over-the-top gore and frightening kills throughout its runtime.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Thornton revealed his favorite Terrifier 3 kill is the one that explains how Art gets his Santa costume. The actor teased multiple people involved in the scene, getting to work with plenty of other stars while Leone gave him the freedom to do what he wanted with the moment. He also teases there was more planned involving the kill, but they had to...

Terrifier 2's Grisly Death Scenes Involved Some Very Unlikely (And Very Gross) Ingredients [Exclusive]
Image
A lot of filmmakers have attempted to create a new horror icon for the next generation, and most have failed rather miserably. "Terrifier" director and special effects artist Damien Leone has managed to usher in a fresh wave of blood and terror with his creation, Art the Clown. The enormously successful sequel, "Terrifier 2," was designed and crafted from the ground up with a ragtag FX team, where most of the gloriously gory set pieces were done almost exclusively by Leone and producer Phil Falcone. To achieve the amount of viscera needed to send even the most hardcore gorehounds heading for the aisle, there were some very special ingredients involved to ensure the maximum amount of gross-out potential.

Throughout horror history, there have been countless recipes for blood that have been used, including but not limited to Hershey's Chocolate Syrup flowing down the drain in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" and...

The Beast and the Angel: The Surprising Biblical Imagery of ‘Terrifier 2′
Image
When Terrifier 2 was released in theaters, much of the conversation surrounding it was devoted to its gruesome practical effects, insane levels of violence and gore, and audience reactions that included vomiting and fainting on a level not reported since the release of The Exorcist nearly fifty years before. It was being sold as a movie that would test the mettle of even the most hardened horror fan, almost like a dare, and I was excited to take that challenge. When I settled into my seat a couple weeks later, I expected to be grossed out old school, to paraphrase Stephen King’s Twitter review of the film. What I did not expect was for memories of junior high confirmation and college religion classes to be awakened. I am no theologian, but I have read and studied the Bible throughout much of my life and familiarized myself with many of...

Horror Villains That Saved Their Movies In 2022
Image
Warning: This post contains spoilers for the horror movies on this list.

2022 was nothing short of a banner year for horror. Way more films were met with critical praise and box office success, from Jordan Peele's third studio feature "Nope" to "Smile" and "Terrifier 2." Yes, there were several protagonists to root for, but a horror movie would be nothing without a deliciously disturbing villain. In 2022, villains ranged from the supernatural (Pinhead from "Hellraiser") to the definitely human (Steve from "Fresh") and everything in between. There was no shortage of evildoers that wreaked absolute havoc and left a trail of bodies in their wake.

Below, we take a look at some of the year's less-than-stellar releases where villains stole the show. To qualify for this list, the films themselves either lean into polarizing territory or had debatable in their quality. But these villains were the glue that held their respective films together.

Icing on the Cake: The Subtle and Surprising VFX Work in ‘Terrifier 2’
Image
One of the first qualities that comes to mind when admiring Terrifer 2 and the Terrifier franchise in general is the practical effects, and rightfully so. Director Damien Leone and team have concocted such seamless and impressive SFX work that can feel like a lost art within a current filmmaking landscape that heavily relies on CGI and easy fixes. In fact, T2 fans have become so assured in the film’s practical effects excellence that they have often (incorrectly) ascribed the final visuals to it entirely, which is not the case.

After scrolling through social media comments that misunderstood the film’s usage of visual FX work— one in particular that wrongly attributed the mid-credits Art’s (David Howard Thornton) head-on-lap/birthing scene to “lack of digital replacement” and an animatronic head— Leone and “Kill” Josh Petrino, T2’s primary VFX artist, developed an inside joke for the “thankless job” that is often VFX work.

Last month, Bill MacKay (@Barbarian_Pug on Twitter) tweeted out the idea of Smith hosting a Terrifier double feature at Smodcastle Cinemas, with director and cast Q&As… and Smith quickly turned that idea into a reality! There will indeed be a Terrifier and Terrifier 2 double feature at Smodcastle Cinemas on December 10th, starting at 7pm, and tickets are available at This Link. The price to attend the double feature will make a lot of sense to Smith fans: it’s 37 dollars.

This Terrifier 2 Scene Was Too Brutal To Film
Image
This article contains major spoilers for "Terrifier 2."

In a horror movie season dominated by Michael Myers ("Halloween Ends"), killer grimaces ("Smile"), and hellish Airbnbs ("Barbarian"), Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) has earned a spot among the greats with "Terrifier 2." Earlier in the fall, the sequel to director Damien Leone's 2016 splatter flick received not only positive reviews but great word-of-mouth buzz that took Art from a genre curiosity to a full-blown pantomime slasher superstar. Its theatrical release garnered headlines about people who either fainted, vomited, or needed an ambulance called while watching it. The closest "Terrifier 2" came to actually making someone sick on set was Aew star Chris Jericho while devouring a disgusting plate of spooky gelatin.

It was those reports, in addition to the power of Leone's show-stopping practical effects, that turned "Terrifier 2" into a massive success for independent horror. A one-week theatrical...

Terrifier's Art The Clown Is Scarier Than It’s Pennywise
Image
While Pennywise the Dancing Clown developed audiences' fear of clowns in It, the emergence of Art the Clown in Terrifier brought this to a whole new, scarier level. Pennywise debuted in Stephen King's 1986 novel It, with the latest iteration played by Bill Skarsgård in Andy Muschietti's It: Chapter One and It: Chapter Two. While the clown isn't Pennywise's only form, it is one that is utilized more often than others, as It's primary target is children. Art the Clown from Terrifier is very different — a Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers-like supernatural slasher rather than an ancient, Cosmic entity. Art first appeared in Damien Leone's short film, The 9th Circle, in 2008, followed by a 2011 short also named Terrifier. The 2013 anthology All Hallows' Eve, then showed Art the Clown through various found-footage style videos, providing fans their first feature-length exposure to the blood-soaked antics of a very twisted,...

Terrifer 2 Director Reveals Hardest Kill Scene To Pull Off
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Terrifier 2Terrifier 2 director Damien Leone explains which kill scene in the film was the most difficult to pull off. Leone's blood-soaked sequel to his 2016 Terrifier is effectively surpassing the first in all categories. While the hyper-gory slasher film was partially funded through an Indiegogo campaign, Terrifier 2 has overcome its small budget and previously limited release to earn over 7 million since its release in early October. The film's success has also led its release to expand to over 1,500 screens across the United States on Halloween weekend.

Terrifier 2 has held true to the no-holds-barred reputation the franchise earned after the original Terrifier's release. The film resurrects Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) for another violently demented Halloween rampage through the small town of Miles County. This time the murderous clown has fixated on Sienna Shaw (Lauren Lavera) and her younger brother Jonathan (Elliott Fullam...

The Most Brutal Moments From Terrifier 2
Image
This article contains major spoilers for "Terrifier 2.""Terrifier 2" is crushing it at the box office. As of this writing, the old-school slasher has snagged 5.25 million in receipts and continues to spread its mayhem by word of mouth. On a 250,000 budget, that's a whole lot of cheddar. While many casual horror fans have reportedly thrown up or left the theater mid-way through, others are praising it for its gnarly practical effects and gruesome violence. It's certainly polarizing, to say the least. Either way, Art the Clown has officially become a horror icon.

Throughout the film's epic runtime, Art the Clown wreaks absolute havoc and leaves a bloody trail of bodies in his wake. Sienna (Lauren Lavera) and her brother Jonathan (Elliott Fullam) are faced with not only the aftermath of their father's death but a seemingly immortal serial killer. Together, their bonds of love are put to the ultimate test.

‘Terrifier 2’ Director Reveals Sequel Plans, a Dismembered Penis Scene That Went Too Far and Using Raw Meat for Intestines
Image
“Terrifier 2” is the gory little horror that could.

Despite having a budget of less than 250,000, director Damien Leone’s ultra-slasher sequel has made more than 5 million at the box office since releasing in early October — and he already has plans for more.

A word-of-mouth phenomenon, the film launched from relative obscurity into the horror mainstream thanks to online reports of people fainting and vomiting while watching Art the Clown (played silently by David Howard Thornton) gruesomely hack apart his victims. The organic marketing worked bloody wonders for “Terrifier 2,” which had no financial backing from a major studio.

A follow-up to the even smaller “Terrifier” in 2016, the grindhouse-style gore is the main attraction for this fledgling franchise. The original movie introduced horror fans to Art, a wordless clown in black-and-white makeup who drags around a trash bag full of rusty knives, mallets and other tools for murder. After indiscriminately...

Terrifier 3: killer clown series is almost guaranteed to receive another sequel
Image
Following a couple festival screenings, writer/director Damien Leone’s Terrifier 2 is scheduled to receive a nationwide theatrical release, courtesy of Cinedigm, in partnership with Iconic Events, on October 6th. (Tickets are available for purchase at Terrifier2TheMovie.com.) But while most Terrifier fans haven’t had a chance to see the sequel yet, Leone is already plotting Terrifier 3.

Speaking with Slash Film, Leone said, “I basically have a structure for Terrifier 3 already. Right now, I would like to just tell a solid story where it has a nice arc for my heroes, my villains, it’s complete. So a three is, I can almost guarantee a part three. After that? We’ll see if there’s anything left and if the fans still are still accepting of this character and this franchise.“

We’ll have to wait and see what Terrifier 3 is going to bring us, but we...

Terrifier 2 Teaser Trailer Reveals Art the Clown's Next Killing Spree
Image
Horror fans anxiously awaiting the return of Terrifier antagonist Art the Clown can get a first look at him in the official teaser for the upcoming sequel. When the first Terrifier was released in 2016, it proved to be a pretty big hit with horror fans, introducing an original slasher film killer with some memorably violent kills. Because the ending left the door open for a sequel to happen, fans have been calling for it ever since, and writer/director Damien Leone has been teasing Terrifier 2 by posting status updates on its progress on occasion.

Without warning, Leone dropped something special for his fans today by uploading the official teaser for Terrifier 2. There's no question that the first movie was particularly violent, even depicting a scene of one unfortunate victim getting sawed completely in half. That now looks to be child's play compared to the sequel, if the first teaser is any indication.
