The Team Gets a Rare Day of Peace in ‘Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon’ Trailer

With less than ten days until the anticipated premiere of Kaiju No.8: Mission Recon in theaters, Crunchyroll decided to release an English dub trailer for the upcoming movie. The omnibus movie recaps the entire Season 1 of the hit anime series and adds an extra episode titled “Hoshina’s Day Off.” The movie is set to hit U.S. and Canada theaters as a special event on April 13, 14 and 16. Kaiju No. 8 Compilation Film Unveils Reno Ichikawa’s Character Pv
Kaiju No. 8 (2024)
The official X account of Kaiju No. 8 unveiled a new character trailer for Reno Ichikawa for the anime’s upcoming compilation film on March 10, 2025.

The compilation film, featuring the events of season 1, is set to hit Japanese theatres on March 28, 2025, along with a special episode titled ‘Hoshina’s Day Off”.

Kaiju No. 8 season 1 aired from April 13 to June 29, 2024.

A second season is slated for broadcast in July 2025.

The series was produced by Production I.G, with Studio Khara supervising the kaiju designs and artworks.

Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya directed the season 1, with scripts by Ichiro Okouchi, character designs and chief animation direction by Tetsuya Nishio, art direction by Shinji Kimura and monster designs by Mahiro Maeda.

Crunchyroll licensed the series for streaming the anime in more than 200 countries and territories, including India.

Japanese Kabuki Star Ichikawa Ennosuke Hospitalized, Both Parents Dead

Ichikawa Ennosuke, a leading Japanese Kabuki actor, was discovered in a semi-conscious state in the family home in Tokyo’s Meguro district by his manager on the morning of Thursday last week (May 18).

First responders found his father, Kabuki actor Ichikawa Danshiro IV, and his mother lying together in a separate room. Both have since been pronounced dead.

A note, apparently written by Ichikawa Ennosuke, was found. Authorities have not confirmed a cause of death for the two parents.

Shochiku, a leading Japanese film studio and Kabuki theater management company that also serves as Ichikawa’s management agency, said in a statement Friday that, “We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Mr. Ichikawa Danshiro, who had supported the Kabuki world for many years, and his wife.”

Some details have since appeared in various Japanese media. These suggest a pact to die together. They also report that psychotropic drugs...

With so many great Japanese directors who made a name for themselves, it is always interesting to see some collaborate. One of the most interesting collaborative efforts was the company “Yonki-no-Kai,” which translates to the “Club of the Four Knights,” established in 1969 by filmmakers Akira Kurosawa, Keisuke Kinoshita, Masaki Kobayashi, and Kon Ichikawa. The group of friends put together this effort to support one another, as the film industry in Japan at the time was in a state of financial hardships. Yet, things did not go according to plan with Kurosawa’s film “Dodes’ka-den,” being a box-office failure, leading to many projects being shelved.
