‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Stars Blast ‘F—ed Up’ Drag Bans: ‘We Have to Stand Together’
Image
International Drag Day was celebrated Wednesday night at the World of Wonder Gallery in Hollywood.

As guests enjoyed the festivities, which featured cupcakes as well as “RuPaul’s Drag Race” merch and cocktails, the evening’s performers — Jiggly Caliente, Pangina Heals and Nicky Doll — addressed political attacks against drag performers.

On Monday, Ohio representatives Josh Williams (R-Sylvania) and Angela King (R-Celina) introduced a bill at their statehouse that would ban “adult cabaret performances” that showcase “entertainers who exhibit a gender identity that is different from the performers’ or entertainers’ gender assigned at birth” in all locations outside of nightclubs or bars. The bill is the latest anti-drag motion to follow after Tennessee’s anti-drag show law, which was deemed unconstitutional by a federal judge in June. Measures have also been filed, with varying levels of success, in Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, and Idaho.

“These attacks on drag are just a cover up,...

RuPaul's Drag Race: Every First Eliminated Queen In History
Image
After 15 seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race, over a dozen queens have unfortunately become the first contestants to sashay away. Given how much time and investment all the queens put into their Drag Race journeys, it's always heartbreaking to watch someone leave first. Thankfully, show creator RuPaul Charles and the cast of queer artists featured on the show have started celebrating the queens who were eliminated first on Drag Race over the years.

Despite the celebration, there will always be a contestant who will happen to go home first in a reality competition. After all, as long as eliminations are involved, someone has to leave the series before everyone else. At least RuPaul's Drag Race is known for finding different ways to constantly refer to these queens and celebrate their work in the show, no matter their placement. Now that both RuPaul's Drag Race season 15 has aired, it's time to look...

The announcement was made Friday on the main stage of DragCon LA, the world’s largest annual drag convention.

She would later compete in “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 4,” also finishing seventh. She’s appeared in her own Wow Presents Plus series and modeled in several fashion magazines, including Vogue Mexico, and appeared in Fox’s live musical “Rent.”

How ‘Drag Race’ Is Conquering the World and Breaking Down Barriers as RuPaul’s Emmy-Winning Franchise Expands

There’s not enough RuPaul to go around the world. But the drag competition show he created in 2009 along with World of Wonder co-founders Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey continues to spread into new territories with his trademark spirit intact.

“Drag Race Philippines” will become the latest spinoff when it launches on Aug. 17 on Wow Presents Plus, joining 12 other international iterations of the franchise, along with all-star offerings. Last month, Jinkx Monsoon was crowned winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” Season 7.

“Drag is an Esperanto. It’s a universal language, and it’s so visual,” says Bailey of the franchise’s appeal.

RuPaul hosts “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “All Stars,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.” But fans follow along regardless of who is fronting the competition, sharing their passion on social media.

Eureka, Kylie Sonique Love, Ginger Minj and Ra’Jah O’Hara came into Wednesday’s finale as the top four queens of the season, tasked with writing, recording and performing verses to RuPaul’s new song, “This Is Our Country,” featuring country music legend Tanya Tucker.

Ginger and Ra’Jah seemed like the frontrunners given their track record of challenge wins, though Kylie was a fan-favorite throughout the season and Eureka won the season’s hotly anticipated “game within a game” twist that allowed one eliminated queen to earn a spot in the final five by competing in a series of lip sync battles. Silky Nutmeg Ganache had seemed like the favorite to return, winning a stunning series of lip syncs back-to-back-to-back, but Eureka triumphed...

Silky vs. Eureka: Who do You think won that final ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars’ lip sync? [Poll]
Image
“RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” Season 6 took a break from the competition this week in order to finally explain the “game within a game” twist that RuPaul Charles has been teasing all summer long. In short, every eliminated queen was given the chance to compete in a “Rudemption Lip-Sync Smackdown,” with the winner of each pairing advancing to the following week. Defying the odds, Silky Nutmeg Ganache was able to win six lip syncs, bringing her to the final challenge against recent eliminee Eureka. In true “Drag Race” fashion, viewers didn’t get to see who won that final lip sync and returned to the competition. Which queen do You think it was? Vote in our poll below and then defend your choice in the comments section.

Drag Race All Stars: Which Queen Is Returning to the Competition?
Image
No, really, we’re asking: Which queen is returning to RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6? Even after this week’s episode, we still don’t know.

The long-awaited “game within a game” finally arrived in Episode 10, and it turned out to be pretty much exactly what fans expected: an all-out lip sync smackdown — in fact, it was literally called RuPaul’s Secret Rudemption Lip Sync Smackdown — that would end with one of the eliminated queens returning to the competition. It was a real treat for those viewers who love watching queens they’ve already forgotten about competing for a...

Elizabeth Debicki in The Crown (2016)
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 6 Episode 10 Review: Rudemption Lip-Sync Smackdown
Elizabeth Debicki in The Crown (2016)
The time has come! It's been 84 years, but the game-within-a-game was revealed to the remaining queens on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 6 Episode 10.

After weeks of speculation, the lip-sync smackdown confirmed the theories burning through the internet. Of course, the queens would need to lip-sync to come back to the competition. Lip-syncing is the essence of Drag Race.

Nine queens entered, but only one would return. This is a Lip Sync For Your Life bloodbath!

The rudemption lip-sync smackdown had a great format to it.

Doing a sudden-death elimination order based on the most recent eliminated queen provided a fair and even set-up. Each queen had to work their way up and put in the effort to make it past the next round.

This tower model is better for this rudemption than the bracket-style in the Lip-Sync For The Crown. It wouldn't be fair to a queen like Pandora Boxx or Eureka!

Start your engines! RuPaul's Drag Race is coming to the UK on June 1
RuPaul's Drag Race is finally returning to the UK.

truTV has brightened our day by announcing that the reality show will kick off its fourth season on June 1.

This is the first time that these episodes have been shown on free to air UK TV - and as if that wasn't enough, each episode will be followed by sister show RuPaul's Drag Race: Untucked.

The show sees legendary star RuPaul Charles guiding a group of hopeful drag queens through the competition, as they face styling, personality and performance challenges in an attempt to win the season.

And to make things even better, the bottom two contestants in each episode lip sync for their lives before RuPaul decides which one of them hasn't made the cut.

RuPaul is joined by judges Michelle Visage - who might just be familiar to Celebrity Big Brother fans - and Santino Rice and Billy B,...

Willam Belli in RuPaul's Drag U (2010)
Logan Lynn: 'RuPaul's Drag Race' Rule Breaker Willam Belli: The Day After
Willam Belli in RuPaul's Drag U (2010)
Like many of you, I was shocked Monday night when, on RuPaul's Drag Race, Ru announced that one of the contestants, Willam Belli, had broken the rules and was being disqualified from the competition. (That's right. I love TV. Deal with it.)

Oddly enough, I had scheduled an interview with Willam last week, before the bomb dropped, for a second installment of my HuffPost blog "Queer Celebrities Need Love, Too," but after watching the show I decided to throw out all those questions.

My chat with Willam from yesterday (the day after all the drama) is below.

Hey, Willam. Tough night, huh? What happened, girl?

Well, I checked the Internet to find out why I was disqualified, and this is what my NancyDruPaul skills could come up with:

I was on heroin, and that's how I was able to be so calm when Phi Phi yelled at me.

I went out drinking the night before,...

'RuPaul's Drag Race': Phi Phi O'Hara Sabotages Jiggly Caliente
Shawn Morales in RuPaul's Drag Race (2009)
It was "Dragazine" week on "RuPaul's Drag Race" (Mon. 10 p.m. Et on Logo) as the contestants each had to produce their own magazine.

As usual, the competition was fierce, but there may also have been some deliberate sabotage going on.

Jiggly Caliente was pondering making it "real" and making his dragazine a serious publication. Was that such a good idea?

Chad Michaels certainly didn't think so. "I suggest you do not do this for real," he warned. "I think you should make it funny. Everybody likes to laugh."

However, Phi Phi O'Hara decided to step in and offer some advice, telling Jiggly to keep it real "if you feel like you can get more with the serious route." Was it a sincere attempt to help Jiggly? Or was it more sinister?

An outraged Latrice Royale thought Phi Phi was just being "shady!"

Later, Phi Phi admitted to Willam that...

Bradford Nordeen: Is 'RuPaul's Drag Race' Racially Insensitive?
Shawn Morales in RuPaul's Drag Race (2009)
Last month, the startlingly addictive reality show RuPaul's Drag Race, in which drag queens compete to snatch the crown of America's next drag superstar, started up for its fourth go around the track. This season is looking to be, as is the lingo, fierce. The new crew seems talented -- spunky and inventive, with an eye for the kinds of drama that make for "good television." Still, for a big-time show about a subcultural community, there's a lot of scary subtext bubbling under snappy comments and titular editing.

The racial polemics of RuPaul's Drag Race have been evident from the first season, when BeBe Zahara Benet was crowned over Nina Flores and Rebecca Glasscock due, in part, to her Miss-America-style appeals for health awareness in her native country, Cameroon (birthing her trademark call, "Camarooooon"). Back then, a fellow African-American contestant, Akasha, expressed her desire to be "a stripper or a...

Jaimie Etkin: 'RuPaul's Drag Race' Recap: The Queens Take The Ring
Cassandra Melendez Lisboa
Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 4, Episode 2 of "RuPaul's Drag Race."

We kick things off with a whole lot of shade for Jiggly Caliente, who nearly went home last week. In memoriam of the first queen to go, Alisa, apparently Jiggly deemed to necessary to wear a slashed, off-the-shoulder top a la Sammi on "Jersey Shore."

Jiggly is worried that the other queens are doing more than just reading her: "I feel like there's a target in the back of my head and all these bitches are trying to assassinate me," she says.

But ooh, gurl: We got SheMail. Ru's come to pump up the girls and says it's time for some necessary roughness (just don't hurt the face).

For the mini-challenge, the queens have to literally make asses of themselves. They have 30 minutes to use a whole lot of foam, packing peanuts and the...
