Dcm takes stake in Wim Wenders’ outfit Road Movies

Wim Wenders’ German film production company Road Movies and Berlin-based distributor-producer Dcm have launched a partnership sees Dcm take a stake in Road Movies and co-founder and partner Marc Schmidheiny become managing director of Road Movies.

Dcm released Wenders’ two most recent films Anselm - The Rush of Time and the Oscar-nonimated Perfect Days in German-speaking cinemas.

The first joint project will be the documentary The Secret Of Places (working title), Wenders’ long-term observation of the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor.

Germany’s Dcm Takes Stake in Wim Wenders’ Road Movies

Berlin-based producer/distributor Dcm has taken a sake in Wim Wenders’ production company Road Movies, creating an “equal, strong partnership” between the two firms, Wenders and Dcm said Friday.

Dcm, which has released several of Wenders’ films in Germany, including the Oscar-nominated Perfect Days, will buy into Road Movies in the first quarter of this year. Dcm partners Dario Suter, Christoph Daniel, Marc Schmidheiny and Joel Brandeis described the move as a strategic expansion of the company’s film production business. Schmidheiny will be named Road Movies’ managing director.

Schmidheiny described the partnership as “a dream come true,” saying Dcm would handle the financial and day-to-day management of Road Movies to “to create the space for Wim to bring his seemingly inexhaustible creative power to the screen.”

German-Based Port Au Prince Film Hires Former Dcm Producer

The German-based distribution and production company Port au Prince Film And Kultur Produktion has hired Roshanak “Rosh” Khodabakhsh as a producer and executive board member.

Khodabakhsh will start the role on March 1. One of her tasks will be to further expand and lead the company’s Berlin branch.

Khodabakhsh mostly recently spent three years at the German distributor-producer Dcm, where she was a producer. Prior to Dcm, Khodabakhsh spent six years as a freelance production coordinator and production manager on projects such as Netflix’s Sense8, UFA’s Charité, and the X Filme series Babylon Berlin. She has also worked with directors such as Tom Tykwer, Sönke Wortmann, Fatih Akin (The Golden Glove), Jan Schomburg (Divine), and Ilya Khrzhanovsky (Dau).

Port Au Prince Producer and Managing Director Jan Krüger previously collaborated with Khodabakhsh in 2009 on Ali Samadi-Ahadi’s Grimme Award-winning doc The Green Wave.

Germany’s Dcm Film Takes Stake in Swiss Cinema Chain Arthouse Commercio Movie

Dcm Film, the German distribution and production outfit with credits including Quartet and Kon-Tiki, has bought into Zurich-based cinema group Arthouse Commercio Movie (Acm).

The chain, set up in the 1970s, operates seven theaters in the Swiss city and also has eight restaurants, with a ninth soon to open. As of July 15, Dcm will take over programming, communications and marketing for the venues.

Arthouse Commercio owners Hans G. Syz and Nicolas von Graffenried said, “Dcm is not just a distributor of films, but a producer too – and the name stands for hand-picked tales of high quality. The enterprise benefits from both a wealth of interdisciplinary expertise and an international network. They also have a stake in the Metrograph in New York. Amazon Greenlights German Franchise-Based ‘Bibi & Tina’ Series
Amazon Prime Video has greenlit a first season of “Bibi & Tina,” a live-action series adaptation of the popular German franchise, which already boasts a number of films and an animated show.

The live-action family entertainment series, which will mark Amazon’s sixth German original series, follows the adventures of Bibi, a teenage witch, and her best friend, Tina. The show will reflect “the existing franchise’s central themes of the value of friendship, family, trust, tolerance, ecology and sustainability,” Amazon said in a statement.

The series was announced at a show-and-tell in London on Tuesday. “Bibi & Tina” will roll out exclusively on Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories.

Dcm Pictures and Kiddinx Studios are producing the Prime Original series with Amazon Studios. Detlev Buck, the creative mind and director of the four “Bibi & Tina” movies, is on board to direct the series. Gabriele Salomon is executive producing.
