Biography

    • Ian McCamy is an American movie actor and musician from New York City, known for his work on Populaire (2012), Grace de Monaco (2014), La danseuse (2016), Missions (2017).

Ian was born and raised in lower Manhattan where he studied at the Laguardia School of Arts and The City College of New York. In 1991, during a semester abroad studying Philosophy, he abandoned his B.A. in order to perform experimental theater at the Kunsthaus Tacheles in East Berlin. After a year of intense performing and community living he followed a childhood passion of his and moved to France in order to learn Irish music. Consequently, after extensive performing, raising two children, restoring a medieval house, making wine and learning Old-Time fiddling with Robert Crumb in the Cévennes Mountains, he now lives in Paris.

Ian has had the pleasure to work under the direction of Olivier Dahan, Arnaud Desplechin, Olivier Assayas, Agnieszka Holland and Frédéric Auburtin among others. He has trained with Damien Acoca, Géraldine Ros, Lydie Callier, Marie Giraud and Monique de Saint Ghislain.

Off-screen Ian performs traditional Celtic and Old-Time Americana music inspired from his Scots-Irish and Tennessee Mountain roots, playing the fiddle, the guitar and singing countless songs about death, misery and love lost
