Dakota Johnson's performance in Daddio receives praise for its stripped-back approach. The film's unique dynamic involves an unseen villain on the end of Girlie's phone. Johnson's character exudes mischief and self-sufficiency in the movie.
Dakota Johnson has not always been given the most glowing reviews for some of her movies, with her big break in Fifty Shades of Grey and its sequels being slammed on its debut, and Madame Web proving that, even all these years later, the actress is still on the receiving end of some harsh criticism. Her latest role in Daddio is one that allows little room to hide, as the movie plays out mostly as a two-hander between Johnsons character, Girlie, and Sean Penns taxi driver, Clark. This time around, it seems that Johnson is hitting the mark by returning to a more stripped-back performance.

Daddio is an intimate character study with engaging leads having a lengthy cab conversation. A long conversation with raw, sexual dialogue may not appeal to all audiences, but Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn shine. Filmed with clever editing, Daddio offers a voyeuristic glimpse into personal struggles.
A troubled woman gets psychoanalyzed by a loquacious cab driver on a long, late-night ride home from New York City's JFK airport in Daddio. Which can best be described as an artsy and well-acted version of HBO's lurid Taxicab Confessions, where passengers got down and dirty revealing all to an inquisitive stranger. Stars Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn are magnetic in a near two-hour conversation that pretty much takes place in real time. What begins as idle chatter takes a remarkably personal turn when closet secrets are released. The tantalizing bits go overboard and are somewhat contrived but accomplish their salacious goals.

Actor Sean Penn won an Academy Award for his starring role in the 2008 movie biopic Milk. While he went a very long time after that movie before he had fun on a movie set again, Penn has shared how he wouldn't be able to play a gay role today due to how times have changed.
In the movie, Penn played Harvey Milk, the real-life openly gay politician who was assassinated in 1978. Penn commented on his Milk role in a new interview with The New York Times, reflecting on the role that won him his second Oscar. He said that working on Milk was the "last time I had a good time" on a movie set. As Penn noted, "I went 15 years miserable on sets." On why he wasn't having such a good time, he further explained, An actor who is playing a leading role and is a known actor and...

Dive into the unexpected connection between Girlie and Clark in the confined setting of a taxi cab. Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn's stellar performances infuse life into Daddio's seemingly static premise. The film nicely explores the dynamic and compelling nature of the relationship between Girlie and Clark.
As a New Yorker, I'm well-acquainted with long taxi rides across the city. I prefer to take these trips in silence, looking out the window at the passing buildings and bright lights while consumed with my own thoughts. However, Daddio makes a strong case for abandoning this solitary approach and opening oneself up to a unique connection, even if the dynamic that unfolds within it occasionally strays into something more complicated and uncomfortable.

Warner Bros. is starting the new year off strong by partnering with some of Hollywood’s most sought-after talent for film projects worth getting excited about. After promoting its partnership with Tom Cruise for original and franchise-related films, WB announced a union with Paul Thomas Anderson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Regina Hall for an untitled film by Anderson.
Cameras on Anderson’s untitled film start rolling early this year in California, with the filmmaker directing, writing the script, and producing alongside Sara Murphy. Details about the plot remain a mystery. However, Deadline‘s exclusive report says the project includes a contemporary setting and is the “most commercial” endeavor Anderson has put their hands on. Powered by a commensurate budget, the untitled film results from a relationship that Warner Bros Picture Group co-chair/CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy forged while making Anderson’s Licorice Pizza.
