What To Expect For Donald Trump’s Inauguration Weekend
Image
The best laid plans for Donald Trump’s inauguration — the pomp and circumstance of the outdoor Capitol swearing-in ceremony followed by a parade down Pennsylvania Avenue — have been stymied by Mother Nature.

With the forecast of Arctic blast moving into Washington on Monday, bringing wind chills in the teens or even lower, Trump said earlier Friday that some of the biggest events will be moved inside.

When Trump and Jd Vance take the Oath of Office, that will be in the Capitol Rotunda, witnessed by a far smaller crowd, perhaps only about 1,000. The parade will be moved to Capital One Arena, about two miles away, and Trump has promised that he will join his supporters there after the Capitol Hill ceremonies.

That said, other indoor events on inauguration weekend will go as planned, with a bevy of parties, balls and cocktail receptions planned for Trump’s ardent supporters and allies,...

Republicans Want to Stop You From Voting. Here’s How to Fight Back
Image
Thanks to Republicans, it will be harder for certain people to vote this year, courtesy of an array of new voting restrictions passed in the wake of the 2020 election: 56 new voting restrictions passed by Republican-led legislatures in 20 states.

Supposedly, these rules are to prevent voter fraud, but countless studies have shown that there is no significant voter fraud in America. Rather, from its origins in 19th Century Jim Crow laws to the “Big Lie” that the 2020 election was stolen, “voter fraud” is a lie told for ulterior motives.

What motives?...

The Revenge of John Roberts
Image
Washington — In the fall of 1981, a young conservative lawyer named John Roberts, fresh off a Supreme Court clerkship, arrived at the Justice Department at the start of Ronald Reagan’s presidency. Hired as a special assistant to the attorney general, Roberts focused on voting rights, and in particular the battle underway in Congress over the reauthorization of parts of the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965. That included Section 2 of the law, which gave voters a tool to fight discriminatory voting laws and rules in the states.

As Roberts settled in at DOJ,...

Stacey Abrams: ‘We Can No Longer Ignore These Threats to Democracy’
Stacey Abrams
When Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-ny) announced last week that Stacey Abrams would deliver the official Democratic rebuttal to President Trump’s State of the Union Address, he said that the former Georgia gubernatorial candidate “offers a welcome, stark contrast to President Trump’s politics of division and lack of leadership.”

He was proven right Tuesday night.

Trump’s second State of the Union wasn’t much more than a slightly polished version of his campaign rallies, rife with the usual fear-mongering over immigration and accusations that Democrats are un-American for disagreeing with him.

Newswire: Once again, Princess Leia has become the face of the resistance
We’ve already heard from a bunch of famous women speaking out against Donald Trump and misogyny/racism/homophobia in general during today’s Women’s March On Washington and at similar events across the country, but one famous woman who didn’t live to see these rallies is still making her presence known. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, one of the big trends among protest signs today was Princess Leia-related imagery, with pictures of the late Carrie Fisher often paired with slogans like “A Woman’s Place Is In The Resistance” or “We Are The Resistance.”
