The series will also look back at the 65-year history of the team’s franchise, and the ups and downs through the years. It will include extensive photo and video archives and new, intimate interviews.

Kansas City Chiefs Docuseries Scores ESPN & Disney+ Deal
Image
Patrick Mahomes and his family didn’t get a free trip to Disneyland this year, but his team is doubling down with the Mouse House.

ESPN and Disney+ have ordered a docuseries about the Kansas City Chiefs.

The series comes from Connor Schell’s North Road-backed Words + Pictures in association with Skydance Sports, which has a deal with the NFL, NFL Films, Mahomes’ 2Pm Productions and Foolish Club Studios, which is the Chiefs’ inhouse production division.

It will tell the story of the team’s history through access to its 2024 season, one that ended in defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. This is a story that would have been even grander if the team could have won this year, which would have been a historic threepeat.

The six-part series, which will premiere later this year, explores its franchise-record 15-win regular season, a third-consecutive Lamar Hunt Trophy...

SXSW 2025 Film and TV Festival Award Winners include ‘Slanted,’ Amanda Peet
Image
The 2025 SXSW Film and TV Festival announced its award winners on Wednesday night, with Slanted from Amy Wang chosen as this year’s narrative feature winner.

“This unflinching satirical thriller examines racial identity in a bold and skin-tingling new way. Featuring simmering performances by the cast, this film is both specific to the fractured identity of Asian Americans and universally relatable in its theme of desperately needing to belong,” said narrative feature jury members Clayton Davis (Variety), Rebecca Ford (Vanity Fair), and Ryan Lattanzio (Indiewire) in a joint statement. “The director’s vulnerability in mining her personal experience combined with her delicate and daring filmmaking create a haunting piece that lingers long after the credits roll.”

The narrative feature jury also awarded special honors to Annapurna Sriram for her film F--ktoys and actress Amanda Peet (Fantasy Life).

“Annapurna Sriram is a visionary force, a rare artist whose work is as daring as it is singular.

White Privilege Satire ‘Slanted’ and Addiction Industry Exposé ‘Shuffle’ Take Top Awards at SXSW
Image
Shifting the attention from starry premieres at Austin’s Paramount Theatre to the independent film and TV projects that make up the majority of its lineup, the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival has announced the jury awards for its 2025 edition.

Amy Wang’s “Slanted” won the narrative feature competition, rewarding the tonal and thematic audacity of a high school comedy with boundary-pushing “The Substance” vibes. Wang, who also wrote the upcoming “Crazy Rich Asians” sequel, challenges beauty standards in a culture that idealizes whiteness, imagining a Chinese American teen (Shirley Chen) so desperate to be elected prom queen that she undergoes a radical identity-reconstruction procedure (she’s played by Mckenna Grace post-operation). The insecure teen immediately enjoys the perks of white privilege, but isn’t at all prepared for the downsides.

“This unflinching satirical thriller examines racial identity in a bold and skin-tingling new way,” said the jury, praising...

Biden Wears Kansas City Chiefs Helmet During White House Super Bowl Celebration, Travis Kelce Says He Might Get ‘Tased’ By Secret Service
Image
President Joe Biden invited the Kansas City Chiefs to the White House on Friday to celebrate their second consecutive Super Bowl win. Gathered on the South Lawn, the team stood behind Biden as the president congratulated the Chiefs for their victory. Biden also commented on their back-to-back win, alluding to Biden’s campaign in the upcoming presidential election.

After the Super Bowl parade shooting, Biden also acknowledged the team’s efforts to comfort fans. Fans initially criticized the team for partying after one woman was fatally shot and eight others injured.

Following Biden’s speech, coach Andy Reid gifted the president a Chiefs helmet. Some players cheered and encouraged Biden to wear the helmet. After putting it on, Chiefs players gave Biden a round of applause and more cheers.

The helmet is Biden’s second gift from the Chiefs. Last year, the team gave the president a personalized jersey during...

NFL And Cinedigm Extend Distribution Deal For Annual Super Bowl Championship Film
Image
Exclusive: Times may have changed, and videocassettes are no longer involved, but they are still producing those annual video retrospectives of the Super Bowl.

“They” in this case is the NFL and its media arm, NFL Films, which have just extended a distribution deal with Cinedigm for the film of the game, along with select catalog releases from NFL Films.

This year’s look back at the Super Bowl, recapping the Kansas City Chiefs’ 38-35 comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles, will come out digitally on Friday and then as a combo pack with a Blu-ray disc on March 14. The game, which was Kansas City’s second Super Bowl victory in the past four years, generated near-record levels of viewership on linear TV and streaming.

The Chiefs are based in a mid-tier media market and have a franchise value in the middle of the NFL pack. Nevertheless, the team has...
