Malakai is a director and storyteller whose work spans film, community organizing, and interactive media. Her projects explore fantasy, science fiction, and ancestral horror, re-imagining Black Diaspora narratives with fresh perspective. She has directed for Showtime, HBO, Netflix, CBS, and BET, with films screening at Sundance, ABFF, PAFF, and Cannes.
As founder of Made In Her Image (MIHI), Malakai has built partnerships with A24, Disney, and Panavision to empower young creators of color. Since 2018, MIHI has reached over 2,000 young women and more than 150,000 community members, fostering the next generation of storytellers.
