- Camera and Electrical Department
Lucas Calzada is a comedy-forward, queer, second-generation Latino actor/writer/director born and raised in Alaska. His work is heavily influenced by this singular perspective, as well as his background in theatre, love of intellectual exploration, and penchant for finding humor wherever he can.
Film/TV highlights include "Sugar" (EP: Dylan McDermott) and "What She Said" (available VOD). On stage, Lucas had the honor of premiering "Hamlet: Prince of Cuba" as Horatio, opposite Frankie J Alvarez ("Looking") with an original Spanish translation by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz ("Anna in the Tropics"), and the musical "Bigfoot and Other Lost Souls" with music by Tony Award-winning composer Mark Hollman ("Urinetown"). He's performed as a guest actor in live sketch comedy shows around town at Upright Citizens Brigade, The Ruby, Second City Hollywood, and Acme Comedy Theatre. In 2022, he was selected as a performer finalist for the Nosotros "Ya Tu Sabes Monologue Slam." Lucas holds an MFA in Acting from Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory, and a BA in Theatre from University of Alaska Anchorage.
For writing, Lucas has studied at such venerable institutions as Upright Citizens Brigade, iOWest, The Pack Theatre, Second City, The Writing Pad, and UCLA Extension Writers' Program. In 2020, he was commissioned by Theater at Monmouth to write a children's play to highlight Latino stories and fables, titled "Pachanga! Latinx Stories for Kids."
As a director, Lucas attended Los Angeles City College, pursuing the Directing Certificate. While there, he created pieces selected by peers as the "Best of the Semester." He enjoys creating short films, experimental pieces, very silly sketch comedy bits, and saying yes to whatever other directing opportunities come his way.
Lucas lives in Los Angeles, and has way too many books on his nightstand.
