Biography

    • Bulle Decarpentries was born in Brussels in 1983. She started studying at INSAS (Belgian National Institute of Performing Arts and Broadcasting Techniques) in 2004. During her studies, she wrote and directed several documentaries and fictional short films. Eager to learn about other approaches to film education, she was selected to participate in an exchange program with Canadian school INIS (National Institute of Image and Sound). In Canada, she shot her short film The Barber, a documentary portraying a volunteer hairdresser and his homeless clients during Montreal's cold winter. The film was selected in several international festivals including the RIDM (Montreal International Documentary Festival) and the FIPADOC (International Documentary Film Festival). It also won several awards: The French community award (Prix de la Communauté Française, FIDEC), the Special Jury Prize at Brussels Independent Film Festival, the Prize for Best Documentary at Rayon Vert Festival, the Prize for Best French speaking Documentary at Het Grote Ongeduld and the Authors' Prize at MEDIA 10-10 Festival.

She graduated from INSAS in 2009. She then held several positions: casting assistant, third, second and first assistant director. Through those experiences, she gained an understanding of the needs and means of the filmic process.

In 2011, she co-wrote her first feature film, Les Chevaliers Blancs, with director Joachim Lafosse and renown French writer Thomas Bidegain as her script-doctor. She has been a full-time scriptwriter ever since. She writes for various directors such as Flemish directors Adil & Bilal, French director Manu Payet, Belgian directors Delphine Girard, Emmanuelle Nicot, and Nabil Ben Yadir. Alongside her work, she continues to study writing by following masterclasses or by reading theory books. She recently took part in European film lab "Le Groupe Ouest" and she was invited by Luc Dardenne to follow his last writing seminar at The University of Brussels.

She has been an active member of the film commission of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation since 2021
