Bike from Pee-wee’s Big Adventure Going Up for Auction
Image
One of Pee-wee Herman’s bikes from Tim Burton’s 1985 film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure could soon be yours.

Coming from the estate of Jay Ward, one of the 14 iconic red bikes used during the filming of the movie will go up for sale during a two-day auction on May 3rd and 4th, hosted by Van Eaton Galleries.

According to the listing, the bike was used in several memorable scenes, including one in which Pee-wee (played by the late Paul Reubens) crashes into a curb and is thrown onto a lawn — only to pop up and deliver his signature line, “I meant to do that.” Watch a clip of that below.

It’s also the bike that Pee-wee uses to swing across a lake on a vine, Tarzan-style, while fleeing security on the Warner Bros. lot.

Built by Hollywood stuntman Gary Littlejohn, the bike has been restored to match its on-screen appearance.

HBO Unveils Trailer for Paul Reubens Pee-wee Herman Documentary
Image
HBO has just unveiled the trailer for the upcoming Paul Reubens documentary to premiere on Friday, May 23. The two-part documentary film titled Pee-wee as Himself will chronicle Reubens' lifelong run as the iconic character Pee-wee Herman, and it's based on over 40 hours of interview footage. Director Matt Wolf was able to sit with Reubens before his death in 2023, and the documentary is the result of long interviews where they often clashed over creative control, and Reubens ultimately opened up about his sexuality.

Pee-wee as Himself also includes appearances by Pee-wee's Playhouse co-stars Natasha Lyonne, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Laurence Fishburne. Other stars include Debi Mazar, David Arquette, and Laraine Newman. The film is executive produced by Eli Bush, Ronald Bronstein, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, and Uncut Gems directors Benny Safdie and Josh Safdie.

The HBO-produced project offers an inside look at Reubens' beginnings in the industry as a multifaceted comedian,...

The ’Pee-wee as Himself’ Trailer Is a Party, and You’re Invited
Image
The man behind Pee-wee Herman, Paul Reubens (Blow), is ready to truly reveal himself. It’s just unfortunate that his definitive documentary, Pee-wee as Himself, had to come out posthumously.

The HBO Original two-part documentary directed by Matt Wolf premieres Friday, May 23 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on HBO. Put together, it’s a three-hour, 20-minute portrait of Reubens. And that’s exactly how the two parts will air on linear HBO — together. You can watch them however you want on Max.

Pee-wee as Himself is centered on “a soul-baring interview” with Reubens, per the synopsis, and is “a window into his never-before-discussed personal life.” It was a particularly lengthy soul-baring interview: Pee-wee as Himself is pieced together from more than 40 hours of interview footage filmed before Reubens’ death in 2023. Wolf also had at his disposal more than 1,000 hours of archival footage and “tens of thousands of never-before-seen photographs” from Reubens’ personal collections,...

Zendaya Has Been Offered a Role in Rob Marshall’s ‘Guys and Dolls’ Remake, According to Rumor
Image
Followers of musicals will likely remember the 1955 Oscar-nominated classic Guys and Dolls, directed by legendary Hollywood director Joseph L. Mankiewicz (Herman’s brother). The movie was a critical and commercial success at the time, and while it is not a top-tier musical, it is still a major classic.

Now, in an era when old movies are being remade, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a remake of Guys and Dolls is currently in pre-production and while it is still in very early phases of development, we have an interesting rumor related to it.

Namely, according to a new rumor, the movie is aiming to land a major A-list actress as its star!

‘The Munsters’ Theme Song Was Openly Trolling Another Classic Sitcom
Image
The central conceit of classic sitcom The Munsters was that the family of vampires and ghouls was just like the clan on Leave It to Beaver, except the relatives occasionally transformed into bats. To get the point across, the earliest seasons of The Munsters patterned their opening theme song off another classic sitcom, only with a morbid twist.

While The Donna Reed Show hasn’t stayed in the public consciousness as long as The Munsters, it lasted for a whopping 275 episodes over eight seasons from the late 1950s through the mid-1960s. Families didn’t get much more whitebred than the Stones, and each episode began with Donna Stone (Reed) handing out nutritious lunches to her children and husband as they left for another mundane day outside the family home.

In its first season, The Munsters openly mocked The Donna Reed Show open, recreating each of its beats but with a ghoulish flourish.

‘The Electric State’ Review: The Russo Brothers’ Otherwise Technically Impressive Retro-Futuristic Sci-Fi Adventure Doesn’t Have Enough Power to Light Up the Excitement
Image
Let’s face it, the Russo brothers’ post-mcu career as co-directors in Cherry and The Gray Man lacked the same widespread praise seen in their winning trio of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Before the two returns to MCU for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, they are now headlining a brand-new Netflix movie The Electric State, the streaming giant’s most expensive feature ever produced at reportedly $320 million.

At the time of writing, that would be the 13th most expensive movie, trailing just five million less than Avengers: Infinity War. A budget this big, coupled with the dystopian sci-fi angle adapted from Simon Stålenhag’s acclaimed 2018 illustrated novel of the same name that looks right from the Russo brothers’ wheelhouse and not to forget, a recognizable cast both on-screen and voice-only acting, it’s natural to have a high expectation here. Adding a...

Chris Pratt Was “Moved to Tears” Reading ‘The Electric State’ Script
Image
The Electric State promised big adventure and even bigger action during a panel at New York Comic Con, which showed off Anthony and Joe Russo’s latest Netflix film.

The footage and discussion with creatives and cast — including Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown — was presented to an electric crowd at the Empire Stage on Thursday, hours after a new teaser trailer dropped online.

The film hits Netflix on March 16 and is a spin on Simon Stalenhag’s graphic novel, which explores a battle between man and intelligent machine set in the ‘90s.

Electric State follows Michelle (Brown), a young woman with a sweet but mysterious robot who teams up with eccentric drifter Keats (Pratt) for a cross-country expedition to find her brother in a retro-futuristic U.S., where an uneasy peace has settled following a human and AI war.

Joe, who jokingly shared that he’s “exhausted” with his...

Netflix's The Electric State Trailer Throws Millie Bobby Brown Into The Post-Apocalyptic '90s

‘The Electric State’ Teaser: Millie Bobby Brown Teams Up with an Unrecognizable Chris Pratt to Solve a Robot Mystery
Image
Millie Bobby Brown may soon be saying bye to the ’80s-set “Stranger Things,” but the Netflix staple star isn’t traveling far in time (or space) for her upcoming film “The Electric State.”

Brown leads the adventure feature alongside Marvel alum Chris Pratt, who reunites with his “Avengers: Endgame” co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo for the 1990s-set film. Brown plays Michelle, an orphaned teen who is navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots live in exile after a failed uprising. Yet after Michelle befriends lovable robot Cosmo, who appears to be controlled by her maybe-dead younger brother, she sets out to find the truth about what really happened to her family.

Of course, Brown’s co-star Pratt seems to be continuing his “Guardians of the Galaxy” alter ego by once again playing a futuristic smuggler.

The official synopsis reads: “Determined to find the beloved sibling she thought she had lost,...

Hulu's New Horror Movie is the Pee-Wee's Playhouse and Terrifier Cross We Never Knew We Needed
Image
This article contains spoilers for Mr. Crocket, now stremaing on Hulu.

For Halloween, Hulu is serving up a creepy treat with a new horror movie thats the Pee-Wee's Playhouse and Terrifier cross audiences never knew they needed. Horror is an expansive, sometimes fickle genre, where it can be difficult for new names to find their stride. However, the beauty of horror lies in its boundless creativity, from its characters to its plots, and in what people find terrifying. As Mr. Crocket slinks onto Hulu for the Halloween season, Terrifier 3 slashes its way across theaters, and nostalgia continues to dominate TV; the three collide to create a perfect storm of horror. But this also raises questions about what Mr. Crockets arrival says about how horror icons are born and how far such a bizarre concept can go.

Inspired by the short that premiered on the horror anthology series Bite Size Halloween,...

The Actress Tim Burton Almost Cast As Beetlejuice's Lydia Deetz Before Winona Ryder
Image
The 1980s might seem like a weird time from a distance, but if you were there for the decade, it was a largely ten-year stretch of mind-numbing conformity.

Pop music mostly sounded the same, television was dominated by rote sitcoms and nighttime soaps, and the movies were chasing the high-concept dragon. Formula was king. So anything or anybody that broke with the status quo was a godsend to those of us who weren't good, undemanding consumers. We needed off-kilter, mainstream-friendly visionaries like David Byrne, the Kids in the Hall, and Paul Reubens — artists who could be weird without offending the conservative sensibilities of the era's rank-and-file (which created problems of access if you grew up outside a major media market).

I'll forever be amazed that Reubens' Pee-wee Herman, a funny-talking dweeb who could switch from ingratiating to irritating on a dime, became an entertainment phenomenon. But I also don't think...

Quiz Lady Director Talks About Paul Reubens' Final Role
Image
Quiz Lady director Jessica Yu remembers Paul Reubens as a joy on set.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Yu recalls hiring the comedy icon best known for his Pee-wee Herman character in her new comedy starring Awkwafina. As Reubens' final movie role, Yu remembers the comedian as a dream to direct. "It was on our first day of shooting that we had him," Yu said. "I felt like it was such a good omen because the moment everybody knew that Pee-wee was on set, everyone's spirits lifted. He meant so much to people, and he was just so delightful. Bringing this moment of magic to the film is such a lovely memory, but is now quite bittersweet. No one knew what he was going through at that time."

'Weird Al' Movie Director Hopes to Make a Paul Reubens Biopic
Image
The director and co-writer of Weird: The Al Yankovic Story now has his sights set on exploring the life and career of another comedy icon with a Paul Reubens biopic — and he even knows who to cast.

Serving as more of a parody of musician biopics than an accurate portrayal of "Weird Al" Yankovic, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story was released on The Roku Channel last year. Having since been nominated for the Primetime Emmy Awards, the film was co-written by the real Yankovic alongside director Eric Appel. Speaking with ComicBook.com, Appel was asked about what he'd like his follow-up project to be. He shared his hopes to make a Paul Reubens movie, though he clarified that it'd be a more serious biopic compared to Weird.

Aporia Review: Judy Greer Shines In Deep & Effective Time Travel Flick
Image
Aporia is a time travel film that focuses on the drama and emotions of its characters, rather than the sci-fi elements. Judy Greer delivers an excellent dramatic performance in Aporia, stepping out of her comedic comfort zone. The film understands its limitations and delivers a sensible and well-executed story, without relying on flashy visuals or gimmicks.

Editor's note: This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the movie being covered here wouldn't exist.

Writer-director Jared Moshe’s third feature is his first that is not a Western. For Aporia, he turns to the world of time travel and family tragedy. The film boasts some of Judy Greer’s best dramatic work to date and familiar faces like Edi Gathegi help to solidify the film's supporting cast. There are many time travel films with similar plots,...

An Original Ghostbusters Storyboard Shows Paul Reubens As A Different Form Of Gozer
Image
"Ghostbusters" famously went through many iterations behind the scenes before it became a blockbuster hit in 1984. John Candy could have played Louis Tully, John Belushi was originally envisioned as Peter Venkman, and Eddie Murphy would have joined the team as Winston Zeddemore. But as we all know, Rick Moranis, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson stepped into those roles and cemented themselves in Hollywood history. However, there's another intriguing piece of casting you might not have heard about, and it involves the late, great Paul Reubens.

If you've seen "Ghostbusters," you know that the primary villain turns out to be Gozer the Gozerian, a shapeshifting, inter-dimensional, apocalyptic entity, who has been worshiped as a Sumerian god. Though Gozer can appear however it wants, they take the form of an intimidating woman in an ethereal body suit with terrifying red eyes and a flattop haircut. In the movie, Gozer is played by Yugoslav model Slavitza Jovan,...

'The Distance' is One of the Best Episodes of Grey's Anatomy
Image
Grey’s Anatomy hit a turning point in Season 11. The season included the passing of April and Jackson’s son, Callie and Arizona’s divorce and most notably, Derek’s death. It also featured one of the show’s more famous and impactful guest stars: Academy Award winner Geena Davis. Davis’s Dr. Nicole Herman was involved in three of the season’s major storylines and was instrumental in the show's narrative and emotional shift. The culmination of Davis’ guest arc came in Season 11, Episode 14, "The Distance."

The majority of the first half of the season focused on Herman’s brain tumor and the urgency with which she trained Arizona to be a world-class fetal surgeon, in her anticipation of death. Her involvement in the main characters' lives created the emotional impact of the episode, which followed Arizona and Amelia through two career-defining surgeries. In addition to being one of the most well-structured episodes,...
