[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Yellowjackets Season 3.] Since Yellowjackets premiered in 2021, it’s been clear that no character is safe. From Laura Lee (Jane Widdop) to Jackie (Ella Purnell), the wilderness quickly began to take its pick of the ensemble cast of characters. But, with Season 2, it became clear that the writers were adamant to bring some sorrow to the adult timeline as well. While this wouldn’t necessarily be a problem, the adults the writers continue to kill off are all linked by a fundamental aspect which joins them: From the teen timeline to the adult timeline, these characters have been plagued by the Doomed Character Trope. A show like this is captivating because of the unpredictability of its circumstances. When each death relies on characters who have already suffered tenfold, it’s impossible not to feel nauseated each time someone is picked off. Although this trend feels like it started with Natalie’s (Sophie Thatcher,...

While it might not seem very Christmas-y, Robert Eggers’ horror remake “Nosferatu” does partly take place at Christmas, which is a very unhappy holiday for all involved. And since the movie opened on Dec. 25, you can also spend your own Christmas break watching it.
Naturally, horror and holidays go together like, well… The Grinch and the town of Whoville. Here’s a few of the better genre offerings with maximum — and frightfully merry — mayhem.
Plus, there’s no end of killer Santa movies, including “Violent Night” with David Harbour and one where a robotic Santa run amok, if those are more to your liking. But for now, check out our list, below:

Yellowjackets' present-day timeline confirmed which of the survivors lived long enough to be rescued out of the woods. Series creator Ashley Lyle admitted they almost killed off young Vanessa early in the show.
Yellowjackets showrunner Ashley Lyle said they initially meant to kill off teenage Vanessa Palmer (played by Liv Hewson) after the pilot episode; this erases Vanessa's present-day arc, fleshed out by Lauren Ambrose. "Liv, who plays young Van, was not initially meant to be long for this world," Lyle told Vulture. "Liv is such an incredible actor, and they brought so much to so little in the pilot. We wrote the pilot, we shot the pilot, and then Covid happened, so we had quite a bit of time before we actually had a writers' room and got green-lit. In that interim, we were able to see what Liv could do. We said, 'We can't kill Van! We can't do it!

‘Yellowjackets’ Cast Hosts “Funeral Parties” for Character Deaths: “It’s Often Really Heartbreaking”
Yellowjackets writer Ashley Lyle revealed Sunday that the cast of the Showtime series often host “funeral parties” for each other when characters die.
“Killing off a character means nothing but good story,” Lyle said during an appearance at this weekend’s Vulture Fest. “It’s often really heartbreaking.”
Yellowjackets, which first premiered in 2021 and follows two parallel storylines of teenagers and their adult counterparts, has harbored its fair share of gruesome and emotional character deaths. Two seasons in, Travis (Andres Soto), Adam Martin (Peter Gadiot), Laura Lee (Jane Widdop), Jessica Roberts (Rekha Sharma), Jackie (Ella Purnell), Crystal (Nuha Jes Izman), Javi (Luciano Leroux), Kevyn Tan (Charlie Wright) and Natalie (Juliette Lewis) have all bid their final adieu.
“I think it’s really lovely that the actors have started having funeral parties for each other,” Lyle continued. “I’ve attended several. It’s very sweet. They’re very closely knit, particularly our younger cast.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Yellowjackets season 2.Laura Lee dies while trying to save her friends in Yellowjackets, and a flaming teddy bear is the only real clue about what happened. Yellowjackets follows a girls' soccer team that's involved in a plane crash over the Canadian Rockies, leaving them stranded in the wilderness for 19 months. The survivors are forced to contend with the harsh environment and tensions within their own group, leading them to embrace mysticism and cannibalism. There's little hope of escaping the wilderness, though Laura Lee attempts to get help using an old plane the group finds in the woods.
Laura Lee is among the most innocent members of the Yellowjackets stranded in the Canadian Rockies, and she leans into her religious faith to help her survive. Despite the other girls mocking her beliefs, it's obvious she cares deeply for her teammates. Upon finding the abandoned plane in the woods,...

Joel McHale is in the zone. Things are moving along nicely on the creative front for the Community and Animal Control star. His new film, It's a Wonderful Knife, has been garnering attention for its Scream-like vibe, feverish pace, and great blend of horror and comedy, and features some of McHale's strongest acting to date. The holiday film also stars Yellowjackets' Jane Widdop, Justin Long (Barbarian), Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps), Jess McLeod (One of Us Is Lying), and Cassandra Naud (Influencer). The story, which moves along breezily, finds ill-fated Winnie (Widdop) saving her small seaside town from a diabolical masked killer on Christmas Eve. Flash-forward one year later; in the vein of It's a Wonderful Life, she wishes she'd never been born. Suddenly, she finds herself in a nightmarish parallel universe where her wish has come true.

A celebratory slasher that slices into the traditional fabric of Christmas-themed cinema, It's a Wonderful Knife invites viewers into Angel Falls, a seemingly idyllic haven where everything is "perfect" around the holidays... except for that masked killer running around town.
With It's a Wonderful Knife now streaming on Shudder, AMC+, and other VOD platforms, Daily Dead had the great pleasure of catching up with Jane Widdop, who plays Winnie Carruthers, a photographer transported to an alternate timeline one year after putting a stop to the Angel Falls killer... who is alive and unwell in this new twisted version of Angel Falls, forcing Winnie and local movie theater projectionist Bernie Simon (Jess McLeod) to team up to take down the Angel Falls murderer once more... and hopefully send Winnie back home to the previous (and slightly less blood-soaked) timeline.

AMC+, which launched in June 2020, may not be as popular as other streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+, but it has steadily risen in these last few years by producing some great content, both in the TV and film sectors. While there are plenty of shows in the AMC+ library, thanks to AMC Networks, the streaming service also adds new films every month.
As usual, AMC+ has prepared a great lineup of films for this holiday season, spanning from classic Christmas movies to the most recent slashers. While only a couple of new films are being added to the service, the additional ones will make up for it. So, without further ado, here are the best movies coming to AMC+ in December 2023.

November is the beginning of winter in some parts of the world. The leaves have fallen, and the temperature has dropped even more. Holiday cheer begins to spread. All the ghosts and ghouls are left back in October, and it's time to enjoy family, eggnog, and a Hallmark movie if your spouse is into that kind of thing. Or, you can just keep watching horror movies, especially those that take place during the holiday season.
This past month, there have been films like It's a Wonderful Knife and Eli Roth's blockbuster slasher, Thanksgiving, slashing their way in front of audiences. Thus showing us that horror, even at a merry time of year, can still hit the zeitgeist. It's a Wonderful Knife Interview: Jane Widdop On Holiday Slasher, Mind-Bending Concept & Final Girls
It's a Wonderful Knife is a genre-bending slasher film that follows a young woman who saves her town from a killer but becomes isolated after a year, leading her to wish she was never born. Plot: A year after stopping a masked slasher’s killing spree, a teen girl wishes she had never been born. As a result, she gets a glimpse into a world where she never existed – and the killer is still slashing their way through her hometown.

A good cast can’t lift this not-quite-convincing retake on It’s a Wonderful Life as a teen frightfest
Here is a classic example of a film you root for, fervently willing it to be brilliant. It’s got Joel McHale from Community in it – great. It’s got Justin Long committing to a bit as a Trump-style property baron with blond hair and spray tan – fabulous. Even more exciting: there’s a role for Katharine Isabelle, star of beloved turn-of-the-century horror comedy Ginger Snaps, as a cool lesbian aunt.
The premise is fun, too: a loose remake of It’s a Wonderful Life as a comedy-horror about a teenage girl called Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop), whose life goes to hell after she kills a masked maniac. This leads her to wish she had never been born – a wish then somehow granted by the cosmos. In turn, this gives said...

Things have been intense on screen for Jane Widdop lately. As Laura Lee on Showtime’s addictive horror show Yellowjackets, the poor girl's desperate plan to save her stranded friends tanked when the plane she was piloting exploded and crashed. Flash forward to It’s a Wonderful Knife, currently in theaters, and we find Widdop’s character Winnie Caruthers fending off a masked murderer in a holiday horror comedy that’s a wicked blend of Scream and It’s a Wonderful Life.
The tale chronicles Winnie’s plight in a small seaside town filled with secrets. One year after saving her town from a diabolical killer on Christmas Eve, Winnie is struggling with the aftermath. She wishes she’d never been born, then suddenly finds herself in a nightmare parallel universe where her wish has become a reality, much like George Bailey from It's a Wonderful Life. But life without Winnie isn’t that great.

The new film “It’s a Wonderful Knife,” written by Michael Kennedy (“Freaky”) and directed by Tyler MacIntyre (“Tragedy Girls;” “V/H/S/99”) falls into numerous genres: slasher, comedy, holiday and even LGBTQ+.
It’s no surprise that Kennedy and MacIntyre drew upon some obvious — and not-so-obvious — inspirations for the festive and frightening feature. TheWrap caught up with Kennedy and MacIntyre to talk all things “It’s a Wonderful Knife.”
The obvious inspiration for the film — which finds a young woman (Jane Widdop) transported to a world where she never existed on the eve of Christmas — is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” What is your connection to the classic?
Kennedy: It was a holiday staple in my family household growing up every year, and a Christmas family favorite. It was also my dad’s favorite movie; he passed away in 2018. So this movie was kind of a weird way to honor him.

It’s good to see a steady stream of festive horror films being released year-on-year. Recently we’ve had everything from musicals such as Anna and the Apocalypse, to comedy action such as Violent Night. We’ve even been allowed to get a sneak peak of next year’s bloody Christmas as Art the Clown will seemingly take on the role of Santa Claus in Terrifier 3. However, this year we are gifted with a small present that has been placed delicately towards the back of the tree. That present is It’s a Wonderful Knife, and you should unwrap it as soon as you can.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year according to Andy Williams, but that’s not the case for Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop). As others around her, including all of her immediate family, are thriving, Winnie is still traumatised by events of the...

In an era of remakes and spinoffs, coming up with a new interpretation of a story that is well-known and beloved can be tricky. This task is mostly fulfilled in It's a Wonderful Knife, an adaptation of the celebrated Frank Chapra classic with an add-on dosage of blood and screams. Directed by Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls), this Christmas slasher is centered on Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop), a photography enthusiast whose life is forever altered after she takes down Angel Falls' masked serial killer. As the people around her either move on or completely resent her, the following Christmas season has Winnie wishing that she was never born. As a result, she lands in an alternate universe where she can witness what her town would've looked like without her efforts to protect the community from the murderer on the loose.

An inverted Christmas tree with as many missed opportunities as you’d find toppled ornaments, “It’s a Wonderful Knife” begins where most slashers end. Our final girl dispatches and unmasks the killer in just a cool 15 minutes before a title card announces the cutlery pun-turned-feature film in earnest. It’s then that director Tyler MacIntyre really gets to work, reimagining the black-and-white holiday classic from 1946 as a middling 2023 slasher satire doomed to fade from memory with the calendar year.
The quaint suburban town of Angel Falls was being terrorized by a demon angel, but not anymore thanks to Winnie Carruthers. Some clever repurposing of jumper cables saved Winnie’s brother Jimmy (Aiden Howard) from a near-stabbing by the Angel in an efficient opening act, but the jolt couldn’t bring back her friend Cara (Hana Huggins) who was slaughtered via winged dagger after her boyfriend (Oscar Chark) got a giant...

Thank goodness Justin Long has stuck around. After breaking out in the frightfully gross road movie “Jeepers Creepers” and popping in aughts comedies like “Dodgeball” and “Accepted,” the 45-year-old has been on screen long enough to be getting genre-movie roles tailor-made for him — or at least uniquely suited to his strength — playing (not so) “nice guys” in all their dishonesty.

If you’re a fan of the Scream films, and you can’t get enough horror films where the villain wears a mask, It’s a Wonderful Knife is your movie. Think of it as Scream meets It’s a Wonderful Life. Directed by Tyler MacIntyre — a hot commodity now having written Five Night at Freddy’s — the new comedy horror romp cuts deep, mixing humor and gore in a seasonal slasher outing that may generate repeat viewings annually.

A celebratory slasher that slices into the traditional fabric of Christmas-themed cinema, It's a Wonderful Knife invites viewers into Angel Falls, a seemingly idyllic haven where everything is "perfect" around the holidays... except for that masked killer running around town. One year after putting a stop to the killer's Christmas Eve rampage, Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop) can't stand to live within her small town's toxic positivity in the aftermath of unspeakable tragedies. With a little murderous holiday magic, she finds herself whisked away to an alternate version of her town where she never existed... and the Christmas killer is not only still surviving but is thriving with a body count that continues to rise all year round. It's up to Winnie to stop the killer once again, save her friends and family, and find a way back to her own timeline, all while learning some things about herself amidst the Christmas carnage.

It wouldn't be surprising to learn that the filmmakers behind holiday horror comedy It's a Wonderful Knife first came up with their pun-tastic title and only later thought of a plot to go with it. The idea of a horror take on the Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life is too enticing to resist, and It's a Wonderful Knife only occasionally lives up to the goofy promise of its high-concept pitch. It's best when riffing on that appealingly ridiculous mash-up and less successful when it makes an earnest attempt at dealing with trauma and bloodshed.
Within its first 15 minutes, It's a Wonderful Knife has already run through a miniature version of the entire plot of a typical slasher movie. The movie is set in the idyllic small town of Angel Falls, a location perfect for any of the dozens of interchangeable Hallmark Christmas movies released yearly. The town's welcome sign...

A Christmas miracle turns macabre in time-bending holiday horror It’s A Wonderful Knife. Written by screenwriter remixologist Michael Kennedy (Freaky) and directed by Tyler Macintyre (Tragedy Girls), this snowy slasher bends the bones of Frank Capra’s heart-warming It’s a Wonderful Life (1947) into a stalk & slash tale of hell on earth and ill will toward the inhabitants of an idyllic mountain town. It’s a very on-the-nose re-imagining of the holiday classic that delivers its biggest gifts in the first act but features some silly characters and a send-up of every painfully charming Christmas movie already flooding streaming platforms.
The premise alone is enough to intrigue any modern horror fan. It’s A Wonderful Life is such a celebrated classic that you don’t actually have to have seen it to know everything about it. It’s been spoofed and lampooned for so long that’s it’s just...

The Holiday Season can be hectic, even for those of us who usually have a handle on things. It's why so many films that come out around this time of year are filled with characters who have forgotten the true meanings of the Holidays they're celebrating. The same is true for Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop) in the upcoming film It's A Wonderful Knife, a Horror-Comedy centered around Winnie and her lack of awareness of how many people in her life rely on her. As the title strongly hints, the storyline is based on the beloved 1940s film It's A Wonderful Life, where George Bailey (James Stewart), feeling fed-up and underappreciated, thinks that everyone would be better off had he never been born. When he finds that this wish has become a reality, he learns to appreciate his family, town, and people. With Winnie and It's A Wonderful Knife. However, there's...

Michael Kennedy is a massive fan of the Scream franchise, and in recent years he has had the opportunity to write some of his own slasher movies. First was the body swap slasher Freaky, which was directed by Christopher Landon. Coming to theatres this Friday, November 10th, is the “It’s a Wonderful Life with a masked maniac” slasher It’s a Wonderful Knife… and while Kennedy was working with director Tyler MacIntyre on It’s a Wonderful Knife, his friend and Freaky collaborator Christopher Landon secured the job of directing Scream 7 – which has led some fans to speculate that Kennedy might end up working on the Scream 7 script. The speculation picked up steam when Kennedy shared a picture of him sharing a meal with Landon and Scream (2022) and Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. But during a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Kennedy said he...

High concept holiday slasher It’s a Wonderful Knife continues the time honored tradition of injecting horror into cozy holiday fare. Director Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls, V/H/S/99) and writer Michael Kennedy (Freaky) blend Scream 2 with It’s a Wonderful Life to plunge its central characters into a bizarro snow globe of horrors, wearing their cinematic influences on their sleeves throughout. It’s not the horror that dominates this high concept mashup, though; It’s a Wonderful Knife is more interested in spreading holiday cheer and warm fuzzy feels.

Over the past few years, horror fans have enjoyed a rejuvenation of the slasher subgenre. Even more exciting is the fact that writers and directors are finding new and creative ways to make slasher movies fun. A great example of this is the body swap horror comedy Freaky (2020), written by Michael Kennedy and Christopher Landon and directed by Landon. Now Kennedy has written the time-travel Christmas slasher It’s a Wonderful Knife, directed by Tyler MacIntyre, who also directed the dark horror comedy Tragedy Girls (2017).
It’s a Wonderful Knife tells the story of teenager Winnie Carruthers, played by Jane Widdop (Yellowjackets), who saves her hometown of Angel Falls from an unhinged killer on Christmas Eve. A year later, struggling to cope with the events of the previous Christmas, Winnie wishes she had never been born and is mysteriously transported to a parallel universe where things are even worse than she could have ever imagined.

The heart of the canon of Christmas horror movies is growing three sizes this year thanks to "It's a Wonderful Knife," the yuletide slasher from "Tragedy Girls" and "V/H/S/99" director Tyler MacIntyre and "Freaky" screenwriter Michael Kennedy. I've been working in this industry for quite some time, and MacIntyre and Kennedy are two people I've been privileged to get to know over the years. Both are responsible for two of my favorite horror films of the last decade, so seeing them join forces for a holiday horror flick has reignited my belief in Santa Claus, because he certainly got my letter. The new film tells the story of Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop), who, one year after becoming a final girl and saving the town of Angel Falls from a psychotic killer on Christmas Eve, wishes she was never born and wakes up in a parallel universe where she doesn't exist...

Despite the abundance of movie genres, people often find themselves bored and unable to pick a decent film. The horror genre, however, is relatively unique in that it tends to blend other genres such as psychological, thriller, comedy, and even science fiction. For that reason, the genre has been embraced by many people all around the world, to the point where people rewatch classic horror films like The Evil Dead on special occasions such as Halloween. Having said that, you should be prepared to spend plenty of time bingeing these classics because the horror genre constantly provides new content to make you indulge in blood and gore.

Everyone loves Christmas movies, right? They're a guaranteed way to get you into the feel-good holiday spirit. But what if that feel-good spirit just isn't for you? Some of the best Christmas movies take the exact opposite approach by telling terrifying horror tales. Black Christmas, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Krampus, and Violent Night are just some of the titles that come to mind. If there's one thing audiences love as much as a holiday horror flick, it's a good pun. That's where It's a Wonderful Knife checks both boxes.
The comedy-slasher comes from director Tyler MacIntyre and writer Michael Kennedy. Kennedy has experience in the comedic horror lane, as he penned the script for 2020's Freaky, a play on Freaky Friday. Kennedy also produces alongside Daniel Bekerman and Seth Caplan. One of the biggest names in horror, AMC Networks' Shudder, is attached to distribute the pic. What else do we need to know?...

"It's A Wonderful Knife" is a warm and fuzzy Christmas slasher that reimagines "It's A Wonderful Life" in a head-on collision with "Scream." Writer Michael Kennedy and director Tyler MacIntyre don't want to eviscerate Yuletide feelings like other Christmas horror movies, much in the spirit of George Bailey's uplifting seasonal journey. It's all bloody, decking the halls with gory delights, but there's also a wholesomeness at the story's core akin to self-affirming modern slashers like "Happy Death Day" or Kennedy's own "Freaky." Imagine a Hallmark holiday special that's hacked to bits by a psychotic killer, more along the lesson-teaching lines of "Krampus" than the repulsive(ly entertaining) violence in "Silent Night."
It's Christmastime in Angel Falls, and high schooler Winnie Carruthers (Jane Widdop) is hitting all the traditions. There's a tree lighting ceremony led by the town's egomaniacal developer, Henry Waters (Justin Long), and a boozy party for the local teens.
