Buzzed About Feature In the House of Flies Heading to VOD and Limited Theaters in May
Parade Deck Films has acquired worldwide rights to up-and-coming director Gabriel Carrer’s In the House of Flies (review here) from Latefox Pictures and will be giving it a same-day VOD and limited theatrical release in select cities beginning May 9th.

For his third and most diabolical outing as director, Carrer (If A Tree Falls) brings retro 80s psychological terror back to the masses. The film tells the story of Heather and Steven (Lindsay Smith and Ryan Kotack), who find their lives changed forever when they’re suddenly abducted.

The psychological thriller is produced by Carrer, Chad Archibald, Nathan Hawkins, and Dave McLeod. With a killer score by composer Steve MacDougall, the film also features music from 80s icons Saga and Brighton Rock.

“Parade Deck Films is the perfect home for our little movie, and I couldn’t be happier with what plans they have in store for it," says director Gabriel Carrer.

Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival Wrap-up
It's strangely fitting that the Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival premiered the same day as Toronto's first annual cold snap, and festival patrons were happy to cram into The Projection Booth's tiny lobby to escape the wind. Hiding from the cold isn't uniquely Canadian behavior, but when called upon to describe what it's like to be Canadian, it is an image that comes to mind, along with Mounties, beavertails and poutine.

Often, being "Canadian" is defined in contradistinction to the uber-nation just below us: the United States, I mean. We Canadians say it's cold because the weather in the States is milder. We say we're multicultural because we added an act to our Charter in 1988. But really, these things mean little in our day-to-day life in Canada. When I was a teen, being Canadian felt like a deficit of something; it meant driving to Buffalo to shop at T.

Instead, In The House Of Flies is one of the most thought-provoking and truly harrowing films of the year. It handles the "kidnapped by a psycho and stuck in a basement" premise in such a refreshingly different fashion, it gives us renewed hope for new ideas in the genre. Innovative writing, a fantastic script, brilliant performances and best of all, genuine dread are all present. The kind of dread get from SE7EN, where all you want to do after the movie is think about your life and your place in the world and wonder if any of it makes sense.

Gabriel Carrer's In the House of Flies (review here) is gearing up for a new "Abduction" campaign to get the film of front of more people, and we have a look at the two new posters created for the effort.

Director Carrer and writer Angus McLellan are taking us to the memorable retro-Eighties with the uncomfortable and distressing psychological thriller In the House of Flies featuring punk-rock legend, social commentator, prominent writer, publisher, and actor Henry Rollins; award-winning Canadian actor Ryan Barrett; and talented newcomers Ryan Kotack and Lindsay Smith.

Synopsis:

June 1988... Summer Was Never The Same.

In the House of Flies tells the story of young lovers whose lives are inadvertently changed forever. An innocent couple, Heather (Smith) and Steve (Kotack), suddenly find themselves abducted. By whom? For what purpose? Alone, isolated, and locked in an undisclosed, suburban basement, Heather and Steve find themselves pawns in a psychological...

Engaging New Clip from Gabriel Carrer’s Horror Flick In the House of Flies
Do you know what would suck? Getting locked in somebody’s basement against your will. Do you know what would really suck? Getting locked in Henry Rollins’ basement against your will. Because that guy is insane. Have you seen the video for the song “Liar”? Intimidating stuff. I just keep imagining him reenacting that clip over and over again, yelling and screaming in my anguished face until I soiled myself. I’m also starting to think that I have too much time on my hands. Anyway, the preceding scenario is not unlike Gabriel Carrer’s genre effort “In the House of Flies”, except, you know, it’s a lot more serious and not nearly as a ridiculous. In fact, here’s what the film is about: In the House of Flies tells the story of young lovers whose lives are inadvertently changed forever. An innocent couple, Heather (Lindsay Smith) and...

Ryan Kotack and Lindsay Smith Get Trapped Inside Gabriel Carrer’s House of Flies
Getting trapped inside a basement has got to suck, especially when the person keeping you down there is a psychopath. Then again, would anyone other than a psychopath keep people locked away in a basement? Gabriel Carrer’s horror offering “In the House of Flies” may not sport the most original premise on the planet, but the director’s penchant for striking visuals and uncomfortable imagery immediately separates it from the cinematic herd. Though I recommend reading the synopsis, it isn’t required: In the House of Flies tells the story of young lovers whose lives are inadvertently changed forever. An innocent couple, Heather (Lindsay Smith) and Steve (Ryan Kotack), suddenly find themselves abducted. By whom? For what purpose? Alone, isolated, and locked in an undisclosed, suburban basement, Heather and Steve find themselves pawns in a psychological mind game with their diabolical hosts.
