The Elf on the Shelf is getting its own reality competition series at the Food Network. “The Elf on the Shelf: Sweet Showdown” will premiere on Nov. 19, TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Hosted by celebrity chef Duff Goldman, best known for his reality show “Ace of Cakes,” “Sweet Showdown” will follow six teams of what the series is dubbing Sweetmakers for the chance to win $25,000 and the title of The Ambassadors of Confectionary Concoctions. Each week, teams will be challenged to create holiday-themed edible showpieces. Along with Goldman, who will help the Sweetmasters through the competition, “Delicious Miss Brown” host Kardea Brown and “Next Great Baker” winner Ashley Holt will judge the competition series.

The upcoming competition will incorporate elements from “The Elf on the Shelf” book and tradition. For example, Santa will appear in the series as will his scout elves, the titular elves who watch over families and report...

Netflix and The Elf on the Shelf have announced their new partnership. Work has already begun on series, and movies, and specials featuring the popular holiday eld. The streaming platform has revealed that they are looking into both animation and live action with their new partnership that aims to bring some holiday cheer. It is unclear what exactly they are working on at the moment, but one can imagine that we'll have something featuring The Elf on the Shelf by next Christmas. Elf on the Shelf is going Hollywood. Netflix nabbed rights to the Christmas-themed story and will develop original live-action and animated content for the streaming service, catering to young kids and their families.

“Elf on the Shelf” originated as a rhyming children’s book that reveals how Santa determines who is naughty and nice. As the tale goes, St. Nick deploys scout elves to watch over kids between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The book comes with a stuffed elf that parents are responsible for moving around during the night to make their little ones believe Santa is watching.

Netflix will develop movies, TV shows and animated content based on The Elf on the Shelf, the Christmas character with the watchful eye to see who have been naughty and nice boys and girls every holiday season.

Netflix formed a partnership with The Lumistella Company, which makes “The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition” children’s book and will produce content based on all of its other brands including Elf Pets and Elf Mates.

Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon will serve as producers on all “Elf on the Shelf” content. The character was created by Chanda Bell, Christa Pitts and Carol Aebersold, all of whom will serve as producers and executive producers on the upcoming films and shows.

The series and films, both live-action and animated, will be aimed at pre-school audiences as well as broader family audiences.

Exclusive: Netflix has prevailed in an auction for The Elf On The Shelf, the family brand owned by the Atlanta-based The Lumistella Company, which has lines of products including the perennial best seller The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition.

In a big seven-figure deal, Netflix acquired the Av-rights to develop original stories from the company’s entire portfolio of brands; including but not limited to: The Elf on the Shelf, Elf Pets, and Elf Mates.

Netflix will develop live-action and animated content, taking aim at pre-school audiences, as well as for family audiences through both series and film. As part of the deal, two of Lumistella’s existing animated short films, Elf Pets: Santa’s Reindeer Rescue and Elf Pets: A Fox Cub’s Christmas Tale will be on Netflix in North America this holiday season.

Chanda Bell is co-ceo with sister Christa Pitts of Cca&b, and she wrote up the original Elf on the Shelf story with her mother, Carol Aebersold, based on a family tradition. They self-published the first book and 15 years later it became a global phenomenon, with 14.5 million books sold. CAA is orchestrating the auction and set the pitch meetings that were completed this week.
