A water pipeline worker made history after discovering a 200-year-old wooden boat in Old Town Dubrovnik, Croatia—the famous filming location for King’s Landing in HBO’s Game of Thrones.
While speaking with Associated Press, diver and undersea builder Ivan Bukelic revealed he was toiling on the water pipeline of Dubrovnik’s old port when he noticed a buried wooden boat on the ocean floor. The landmark is one of the most important trade ports in the Adriatic Sea in the Middle Ages, making it a protected heritage site.
As per marine archaeologist Irena Radić Rossi, they still cannot identify what type of vessel it was or its specific dimensions. However, after conducting radiocarbon analysis, they have confirmed that it was from the late 18th century.

In Game of Thrones' brutal continent of Westeros, where vileness and cruelty were never in short supply, countless characters endured unimaginable suffering. However, no one was subjected to debilitating torture quite like Theon Greyjoy. Captured by the sadistic Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon), Theon was tormented and broken to the point of losing his identity. His arc remains one of the most harrowing on the show, and one of the most memorable, thanks in no small part to Alfie Allen, who embodied the character with haunting precision, earning an Emmy nomination. Now, for his next role, the English actor will play the tormentor in an upcoming Paramount+ thriller that promises to flip the dynamic he once portrayed so painfully well.
According to Variety, Allen has been cast to play the villain in a new original UK thriller series, Baby Doll (working title), that has just been commissioned by Paramount+. The 6-part...

An original cast member of Game of Thrones is starring in a new thriller show on Paramount+ that's based on a bestselling book. The main cast of Game of Thrones have all moved on with their careers in the years since the divisive ending of Game of Thrones or the deaths of their characters. Some, such as Pedro Pascal, have become superstars in their own right, while others have stepped back from the spotlight. Now, however, one original cast member is set to star in a new original show from Paramount+.
Per Variety, Alfie Allen, who played Theon Greyjoy in Game of Thrones and Iosef Tarasov in the original John Wick, is set to star in Baby Doll alongside Jill Halfpenny. Baby Doll is being produced for Paramount+ and is based on the novel of the same name by Hollie Overton. It follows Lily (Tallulah & Delphi Evans), who was abducted...

When Game of Thrones came to an end, a lot of people were thinking about how the universe might continue. It wasn’t surprising when we learned that HBO and Kit Harington were developing a Jon Snow sequel series, although it didn't end up going forward.
The door wasn’t completely closed on the idea of a Jon Snow spinoff series, but Kit Harington's recent update doesn't sound great. That's a shame, because while a sequel couldn't completely fix the issues with the final season of Game of Thrones, it could have righted a couple wrongs and been a fun adventure.

The enormous cast of Game of Thrones has gone on to do lots of great stuff in TV, film and on the stage. Take Gemma Whelan, who played Yara Greyjoy, sister to Theon (Alfie Allen). She's appeared in shows like The Tower and Gentleman Jack, but there will always be fans curious about her time in the Seven Kingdoms.
"It's very nice and I look back incredibly fondly," Whelan told Hello! "What a rich and brilliant experience it was. When you’re in it, you don't realize. Not that you take it for granted but when you’re making it, particularly with season two, I just thought, ‘We’re making a bit of TV and let's see what happens.’ And it just blew up, didn't it? I think everyone was very grateful all the way through about what we had and what we were making."

For fans, Game of Thrones was more than just a television show – it was a global phenomenon. And for eight seasons, it kept everyone hooked to the television screens with unexpected twists and complex characters. People loved it not just for the dragons and massive battles, but also for the emotional journeys that some of the characters went through in the series.
But out of the lot, the most powerful storyline would definitely be that of Theon Greyjoy, played by Alfie Allen. Greyjoy’s path in the show was full of terrible choices, and because of that, he went through extreme pain and torture. Moreover, his journey to seek redemption was probably the most emotional arc in the show.
So, because of this, even Allen had a simple wish for his character. Let’s dive deeper to know what he said on his character’s journey in Game of Thrones...

No matter what people say about the Game of Thrones franchise, George R.R. Martin is a brilliant and compelling storyteller. His greatest creation, A Song of Ice and Fire, featured tons of characters and storylines that it’s almost impossible to keep track of each one of them. More so, the author is great at telling narratives from certain points of view.
That is perhaps one of the most interesting and notable techniques Martin uses in his novels. We know the story through the points of view of various characters, and in each installment, we look forward to which perspective gets told.

When you watch the Game of Thrones… you stay obsessed. If you’re still salty about Bran the Broken ruling the Seven Kingdoms—same, my friend. Game of Thrones didn’t just steal our hearts; it stabbed them like Arya in a faceless frenzy. Season 8? A betrayal worthy of the Night’s Watch. But even with its chaos and controversy, Thrones remains the wildfire of modern TV—unpredictable, addictive, and utterly iconic.

When Abby showed up in The Last of Us Season 2, fans had strong opinions about her. Some loved her, others just couldn’t stand her character. Many even went as far as to compare her with Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow, the misunderstood hero with a good heart.
But this comparison didn’t quite fit in, as Abby’s story isn’t about being noble or doing the right thing for the greater good. It was a whole lot messier and way more complicated.
And if we’re being honest, her story is more in sync with Theon Greyjoy, as both of them carry deep guilt and go through painful journeys trying to find themselves again. Let’s dive deeper and understand why Abby and Theon Greyjoy are more or less on the same lines, just different shows.

For eight seasons, Game of Thrones developed an incredibly extensive cast filled with some of the most memorable characters in modern television. Names like Cersei, Tyrion, and Daenerys became well-known even to people who hadn't seen the show, due simply to its enormous impact on pop culture at the time. They became so popular that real-world people even began giving their children names like Lyanna and Khaleesi.
However, along with these important figures, a vast multitude of side characters are scattered throughout the series. Some of them were naturally more memorable than others, even if all of them were somewhat relevant to the overarching narrative. In addition, there are also a few characters who played critically important roles in the show but are rarely thought of, with some even forgotten entirely.
Updated on March 4, 2025, by Ajay Aravind: Although Game of Thrones doesn't have a single protagonist, the series includes dozens of main characters.

If HBO’s Game of Thrones taught us anything (besides never naming your kid Joffrey), it’s that no one was safe. Characters in the show were getting killed left and right, just as traumatically as the series finale. So it’s not surprising that Alfie Allen, who played Theon Greyjoy, kept asking the showrunners about his fate. After all, Westeros wasn’t exactly big on job security.

But instead of giving him a straight answer, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss decided to mess with him in true Game of Thrones fashion. They handed him a fake script where Theon dies and then went on to casually ask him if he’d like to return as a brainless zombie in the next series. Brutal? Yes. Funny? Also yes. Thankfully, Allen took it better than Theon would have.

We're told over and over again throughout "Game of Thrones" that Jon Snow's whole deal is "being a bastard." Played by Kit Harington, Jon shows up in the pilot as the apparent bastard son of the honorable Ned Stark (Sean Bean), the patriarch of House Stark in the northern reaches of Westeros, and some random tavern wench. But when you learn more about Ned and his nature, the idea that Jon could possibly be the result of an affair seems sort of ludicrous. Despite that, Jon is constantly met with hostility from Ned's wife Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley), who thinks Jon is a reminder of Ned's greatest misstep as a husband, and he's not treated with as much kindness and respect...

Strength can be viewed in many different ways, from the conventional might showcased in battle to the strength that comes with power. In a world where men squabble over the Iron Throne and command of Westeros, Game of Thrones introduces a number of strong-willed women who exhibit tremendous strength. Some even surpass their male counterparts, whether in terms of political navigation, determination, or combat capabilities.
While there are strong male Game of Thrones characters from Jon Snow and the Hound to Robert Baratheon, there are plenty of women throughout the series that could give these men a run for their money — and often do, making them fan favorites.

One of the most influential television series in modern TV history, Game of Thronesushered in the modern era of "peak TV", bringing premium cable and streaming services to the forefront of the medium for the next 15 years. Over its dominant eight-season run, the series tackled the social and political turmoil of a fantasy universe in a more adult and complex way than television audiences had previously been exposed to.
One of the defining factors for Game of Thrones' immense success was its collection of three-dimensional and nuanced characters, and though the series lost a lot of goodwill with audiences in its less-than-ideal final seasons, the series always strived to have one of the best casts on TV. Many of the best characters in the series were the ones that were on-screen the most, giving audiences ample time to explore their arcs.

Game of Thrones was quite a roller-coaster throughout its eight seasons — in terms of both narrative progression and audience reception. Although heavily criticized for its reductionist storylines and questionable character arcs, there is no doubt that Game of Thrones is one of the most influential TV shows of the 21st century. Each episode is crafted with incredible skill, from cinematography and set design to music and dialogue.
A large chunk of them are thematically undecided, but there are more than a few that highlight the visceral darkness embodied by their characters. Game of Thrones is well-known for its depictions of physical and emotional violence, but the most impactful moments are those that instill a sense of uncomfortable premonition in their viewers.

When Game of Thrones outpaced George R.R. Martin's books, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss had to forge their own path. While they knew the major plot points Martin intended, they needed to fill in countless details themselves. But even before running out of source material, they made numerous changes to the books - some brilliant, others questionable.
Some new scenes became instant classics: Arya serving as Tywin's cupbearer at Harrenhal, Cersei and Robert's candid discussion about their failed marriage, and the electric confrontation between Varys and Littlefinger with the iconic "chaos is a ladder" speech, to name a few. These fit so seamlessly into the story that some viewers didn't even realize they weren't from the books. However, some of their creative decisions were somewhat questionable.

The huge ensemble cast of Game of Thrones includes incredibly talented actors playing characters with intricate backgrounds and complex motivations. One of the show's strengths lies in its portrayal of many female characters with an attention that surpasses traditional fantasy tropes. Despite the show having numerous female characters, the best are the ones whose roles are indispensable to the overarching story or who undergo the most profound changes.
Sansa Stark begins as a naive girl whose expectations are gradually shattered over her traumatic journey, effectively making her what she's always wanted to be. Meanwhile, Brienne of Tarth is the only woman in Game of Thrones who becomes a knight. Although many things make these characters distinct, the best female characters in Game of Thrones all go through major transformations that inevitably impact the show's narrative.

The Winds of Winter has not released yet, but it already promises to be one of the weirdest and darkest books in A Song of Ice and Fire so far. George R.R. Martin has been working on the sixth and penultimate novel in the series that inspired Game of Thrones since 2011, with various delays to The Winds of Winter’s release (which the author has since given up trying to predict). Though the book remains unfinished as things stand, some parts of it have previously been released.
Martin has revealed or read multiple preview chapters from The Winds of Winter over the years, following the likes of Tyrion Lannister, Arya Stark, and Theon Greyjoy, and one includes a nod to a villain from Daenerys Targaryen’s past. This comes in “The Forsaken,” a haunting, atmospheric chapter told from the point-of-view of Aeron Greyjoy (Theon’s uncle), who has been captured by his own brother,...

The wait for The Winds of Winter stretches on, but author George R.R. Martin has already revealed one chapter that elevates a character far beyond their Game of Thrones counterpart. The Winds of Winter's release has been eagerly anticipated since 2011, the year that Game of Thrones started and when the most recent A Song of Ice and Fire novel, A Dance with Dragons, was released. Due to various commitments - not least of which was the books spawning one of the biggest TV shows ever - and the sheer scope of the narrative, Martin has, by his own admission, struggled with writing the sixth installment.
What has been revealed of the book, though, has largely been excellent. Over the years, Martin has read or released various preview chapters for The Winds of Winter, including Pov characters such as Arya Stark, Tyrion Lannister, Sansa Stark, Theon Greyjoy, and Arianne Martell. Some of them,...

While reality-based TV shows are often known for garnering significant attention, it was the fantasy epic Game of Thrones that changed the landscape of TV drama by capturing the world’s attention, in the most unprecedented way. Part of what makes Game of Thrones so appealing is that even its villains are complex enough to maintain the audience's interest, rather than being one-dimensional tropes. In some cases, the antagonists are even cheered on when pitted against another villain. Over the course of eight seasons, fans witness the best and worst that Westeros offers, ranging from corrupt knights to conniving politicians and everything in between.
However, because so many villains appear in Game of Thrones, it's difficult to assert which one is the franchise's best. While there are obvious answers, such as the White Walkers and the terrifying Night King, they are more of an existential threat than human characters. The series' best villains are the ones that fans love to hate, and they are often defined by their moral complexity, memorable actions, and evil motivations. And the Night King.

Quick Links What Was The Battle Of The Bastards? Kit Harington Actually Punched Iwan Rheon The Competition Between Jon and Ramsay Goes Beyond The Small Screen
The "Battle of the Bastards" was one of the moments Game of Thrones fans had been anticipating for years. Fans had grown incredibly attached to Jon Snow and his underdog story, being a Stark bastard who found a home at The Wall. Fans had long theorized Jon was much more than Ned Stark led everyone to believe, so when Jon finally left The Wall, fans knew it was time for the fan-favorite Game of Thrones character to ascend to great power.
On the other side of the conflict is Ramsay Bolton, the legitimized bastard son of Roose Bolton, who betrayed House Stark at the "Red Wedding." Ramsay was pure evil, having spent a good portion of his tenure on the show torturing Theon Greyjoy...

Game of Thrones spanned eight seasons and 73 episodes, many of which were exceptional. For the first six seasons, the showrunners introduced an exciting, fresh structure: the penultimate episode served as the season's climax, while the finale dealt with the aftermath and set the stage for the next season.
Game of Thrones' format changed in the final two seasons as the creators condensed numerous storylines into significantly shorter episodes, but even then, it still produced some of the most watched television episodes of all time. While the penultimate episodes of the iconic fantasy series are among the series' most memorable, the best Game of Thrones episodes can be found scattered throughout the show's eight seasons.
An Honorable Woman Becomes the First Female Knight in "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" Season 8, Episode 2
Many people might be surprised to see an episode from Season 8 on this list, especially considering how disappointing the season has been overall.

Daemon Targaryen is one of the most polarizing characters in House of the Dragon. In Fire & Blood, he is described as "made of light and darkness in equal parts," but the showrunner has chosen to highlight his darker traits. Despite this, Daemon remains an enigmatic and somewhat unpredictable character. Some fans admire him, while others despise him. However, he is certainly not the worst character in George R. R. Martin's universe.
Many characters in Game of Thrones have committed far worse acts than the Rogue Prince. Although Daemon can be ruthless and selfish, he also loves his family and is loyal to his soldiers. This list will highlight the worst individuals in Westeros based on the TV show adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire.

There are plenty of sympathetic, well-liked, and impressive characters in Game of Thrones. Although Westeros is an undeniably terrible place, there are a few individuals who earn the viewers' admiration through their honesty and kindness. However, not all characters can become instant fan favorites.
On the contrary, there are plenty of characters in both shows who are widely disliked by the audience. This hateability factor might be intentionally woven into their character arcs; people like Ramsay Bolton and Joffrey Baratheon are eminently objectionable. At the same time, there are a few characters who just fail to hit the mark. Whether it's due to personal flaws, irredeemable actions, or feeble writing, there are some characters fans simply can't stand.

Toxicity and cancel culture go hand in hand like butter and bread. Every fandom has toxic fans who can really put in the effort to bully someone, and the MCU fandom is no different.

Bullying can be done for two reasons: To actually fix something like Sonic the Hedgehog film (and it actually worked) or to just spread hatred for various reasons. Sometimes, the online trolling can become too much.

When asked why George R.R. Martin is their favorite author, his fans generally give the answers you'd expect:: his stories contain vibrant characters, they take place in worlds of gritty realism, the dialogue sings...but the most important reason is that his writing always leaves them wanting more.
I am one such person. From the first time I read A Game of Thrones I have been desperate to know what happens next, to read just a few more pages of an author whose work launched a global revolution in the fantasy genre. For fans of Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, it has been a very long wait. Famously, the last (fully) published novel in the series, A Dance with Dragons, came out in 2011… only weeks after the conclusion of Season 1 of Game of Thrones, HBO's adaptation of the books.

Let's be honest: not every "Game of Thrones" episode is a winner. Sure, the show's first four seasons are basically unimpeachable — and I think a strong argument can be made that, in the aftermath of a particularly bleak fifth entry, season 6 is actually really good — but the drop-off in quality when you get into the show's (frequently derided) later seasons is quite apparent, resulting in some really rough episodes. So, which ones are the absolute worst of the worst?
Because I can't nominate "all of season 7 and 8" for this dubious honor, I made some tough decisions and chose the five absolute crappiest "Game of Thrones" episodes, though there were some contenders I couldn't include here. Basically anything involving the Dorne plotline could have qualified, or anything involving the faceless assassin school in Braavos that beats the spirit out of Maisie Williams' Arya Stark. But installments like "No One" or "Mother's...

For a show as large as Game of Thrones, it was actually missing several storylines from the books. George R.R. Martin's writing style is expansive, creating many moving pieces in the world of Westeros to give it a sense of realism. As a result, several storylines needed to be omitted for the show to have a continuous pace that could focus on the main characters. That being said, some storylines that likely would have had major consequences for the cast were never even included.
These missing plots involved princesses attempting to launch coups, murder mysteries that could have hinted at a rebellion against the Boltons, and even major characters being resurrected from the dead. Without these stories, the show itself suffered, as it would have helped lay the groundwork for a lot of later developments in the series, and perhaps been better received than the final product of the original show.

Ranking the season finales of Game of Thrones, focusing on critical moments and surprises (Photo Credit – Facebook)
HBO’s historical drama, Game of Thrones, is one of the most influential fantasy tales that has captured the audience’s attention worldwide. The epic saga of dragons and thrones covers all sides of bloody wars, the unforgiving land of Westeros, exceptional character development, and a masterclass in large-scale storytelling. The series often resolved major plotlines in penultimate episodes, leaving season finales to explore the aftermath of iconic events like Eddard Stark’s execution and the Red Wedding. While these finales reconfigured the series’ dynamics by delivering spellbinding conclusions that teased future developments, each season ended with awe-inspiring moments, keeping fans hooked with intense discussions. Game of Thrones’ most and best-talked episodes came with season finales.

Game of Thrones has certainly has some problematic moments without us even getting into the ending. Some scenes just haven’t aged well. Some didn’t seem too bad at first, but as time has passed, we’re seeing more and more issues. Here are seven that stand out as the worst ones for me.
Daenerys being lifted up by the freed slaves in Yunkai
Daenerys Targaryen's journey through Essos was slow, but there were some important moments to show her character development. We had to see her grow in confidence and see how she would lead her people. That led to her freeing the enslaved people in the city of Yunkai.
There is a moment where she’s lifted up by a sea of people. It’s her pale white body up against all these nameless brown people, immediately causing a problem. The White Savior complex is one that...

Theon Greyjoy is perhaps one of the most morally complex characters in the world of Game of Thrones. On the one hand, there is a certain sympathy with his initial situation, being born to a family that really didn't care for him, and then being the resident hostage at Winterfell when said family's ambitions outweighed their common sense. That hidden resentment drove him to do truly terrible things, and in the end he paid for it dearly. Theon's betrayal was the catalyst that ultimately caused his loss of identity, both in a metaphorical sense, and then a literal one.
His torment and abuse under the "care" of Ramsay Bolton shattered Theon into a thousand pieces. He would spend the next few years as Ramsay's personal slave and victim. Towards the end of the series though, Theon began to rediscover some of his old boldness. Either driven by a desperation to get away,...

Be honest with yourselves; awful character traits are the best. Who didn’t tune into Game of Thrones weekly to see what shady malevolence Joffrey Baratheon was up to?
Walter White isn’t the most vile reprobate to ever cross the small screen. He’s practically a household name, cheered and loathed in equal measure.
One of the most powerful and insanely popular scenes in the entire Star Wars saga is when Darth Vader enters a dark, smokey hallway on a Rebel ship and unleashes a hellish slaughter on the crew.

It’s the callous degenerate, the spiteful dictator, the bumbling father wrecking his way through life, or the selfish spinster, always undermining the best characters.

Game of Thrones is one of those shows that seemed like it could do nothing wrong... until it did. In fact, there isn't a single episode rated under 8.0 on IMDb in the first four seasons, and even after that, there are still multiple episodes with a rating of 9.8 or higher, a feat that's practically unheard of with other television series!
But the bigger they are, the harder they fall, and Game of Thrones is perhaps the most infamous example. The highest-rated episode in season 8 was a 7.9, lower than any episode from a prior season. Even without ratings systems factored in, it's rare to find fans that don't hate at least a few episodes in season 8, if not the season as a whole.
With that being said, it would be easy to call the last six episodes of Game of Thrones the worst in the franchise and call it a day.

Martells are better in books than in Game of Thrones, lacking impact and likability in the TV adaptation. House Arryn could be great, but lack character development and are isolated in the Eyrie. House Greyjoy has a mixed impact, with Theon's powerful arc, but some letdowns like Euron's character.
The noble houses of Game of Thrones range in various qualities, with some standing out as the best in the series. Part of what makes George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice & Fire book series and its television adaptations so compelling is the vast array of cultures and factions playing at the central political game. Even within those cultures and factions, characters range in personality and motivations, allowing for complexity in scoring them as a collective whole.

To this day, Ramsay Bolton remains one of the most memorable, and most hated, villains from HBO's acclaimed series Game of Thrones. Welsh actor Iwan Rheon brought a perfectly psychotic tone to the character, providing some of the series' most disturbing scenes. In an interview with Cbr's Kevin Polowy, Rheon not only discussed his new series for Peacock, Those About to Die, he revealed that Game of Thrones fans have a surprising reaction to meeting him.
Ramsay Bolton was not only insane and cruel, he was masterfully devious. In the series, he started as an ally for House Stark, and retook Winterfell from Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) for them. However, he betrays the Starks and joins with the Lannisters, who force Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) to marry him. He spends his free time torturing Theon while ruling over Winterfell, until Jon Snow arrives and exacts his revenge.

It's been said that when you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. Few Game of Thrones characters are strong enough to survive until the end, but a handful of warriors, nobles, or creatures of legend have unspeakable power in their favor. They come from all corners of George R.R. Martin's dark fantasy world, and they all have one thing in common: they've survived through sheer strength. While it's important to note that the strongest Game of Thrones characters have each exhibited strength in all its forms, the focus is on characters who rely on physical strength and skills to dominate the world around them.
While Daenerys Targaryen and Tywin Lannister are among the most powerful characters to ever step foot in Westeros, their strategic thinking and intellectual ability would not save them in hand-to-hand combat. For the sake of fairness, the strength of these Game of Thrones...

Few shows have managed to achieve what Game of Thrones has. Over the years that it was on air, the show built itself a loyal fanbase who felt every emotion the characters felt. Game of Thrones established itself as a cultural phenomenon and gained followers throughout the globe. Not even the countless heartbreaking deaths in the show could turn its audience away.
Game of Thrones (2011-2019)One of the many things that Game of Thrones is known for, whether it’s the TV or the books, is its gruesome and hard-to-watch scenes. One scene that was a bit too much for the audience in particular was the one involving Ramsay Bolton and Sansa Stark on their wedding night in season five. We just unlocked horrible memories, didn’t we? Well, while the scene should have been difficult to film for Sophie Turner, the actress revealed that she actually enjoyed it.

Whenever novels are created into live-action series or movies, a large part of the fandom is left disappointed as the live-actions are not always very close to the original source material. A similar thing happened to the iconic drama series Game of Thrones which was largely based on George R.R. Martin’s novel series of A Song of Ice and Fire.

However, one scene from the series was far too disturbing and unnecessary that even the actors of the series were terrified to film it.
Iwan Rheon describes filming that one ‘horrible‘ scene from season 5 of Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones will certainly go down as one of the greatest fantasy drama series of all time. The series was hugely praised for its incredible cinematography, amazing plot, and great acting until the last season of the series. As a typical live-action series based on novels, Game of Thrones...

Game of Thrones s*x scenes were always considered problematic, especially since several actors had opened up about the demeaning nature of them. However, the show crossed all lines with one particularly disgusting scene in Season 5 Episode 6. Sophie Turner’s Sansa Stark is subjected to brutal r*pe by her new husband, the sadistic Ramsay Bolton, in this episode. The scene was not only unwatchable but also problematic on multiple levels, prompting a fan outcry.
One Game of Thrones scene involving Sophie Turner’s Sansa Stark received widespread criticism from fans
The infamous ‘Black Wedding’ episode was not a part of George R.R. Martin’s original books. Sansa Stark had already been through enough trauma in the series and another torture/r*pe scene did not add anything to her character arc.

It's been almost five years since Game of Thrones wrapped up its wildly popular run on HBO.
But while the show might have consistently delivered stellar ratings, it didn't always leave viewers feeling satisfied.
In fact, half a decade after the controversial Game of Thrones series finale, any mention of the series is still more likely to elicit complaints than fond memories from people who would've once described themselves as devoted fans.
Why such a rapid reversal of opinion?
Well, Game of Thrones' lackluster final season is the most obvious culprit, but the criticism began long before Daenerys turned to the dark side.
The show's ability to generate controversy and debate among fans was one of the keys to its early success.
Unfortunately, by the time Bran Stark came out of left field to claim the Iron Throne, the chorus of criticism was far louder than the smattering of praise.

Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) is one of Game of Thrones' best adapted characters thanks to the significant changes made from the books. Though the television show and book series portray Theon as a flawed, womanizing, prideful young man who lets his desperation for acceptance drive him to betray his adopted family, the Starks, it's Theon's TV counterpart that shows the most evolution. The gut-wrenching suffering he endures throughout the series deeply humbles him, much more than in the books, and turns him into a selfless, honorable hero by the end of the series.
