TrustNordisk Thrills Multiple Territories With ‘Carousel’ and ‘Canceled’: ‘They Are Made to Entertain the Audience’ (Exclusive)

Scandinavian sales powerhouse TrustNordisk has been racking up sales for horror films “Carousel” and “Canceled,” Variety has found out exclusively.

Directed by Simon Sandquist, “Carousel” has been sold to Splendid Film (Germany), Selectavision (Spain) and Atnine Film (Korea), as well as Cine Video (Latin America) and Vertigo Media (Hungary).

Cine Video and Vertigo Media also picked up Oskar Mellander’s “Canceled.”

“I definitely see a continued demand for genre films in the market around the globe,” said TrustNordisk’s Nicolai Korsgaard, currently at Canadian genre fest Fantasia.

“Coming here has been great for us in terms of scouting new projects and I see some potential collaborations in the future. Lately, we have been increasing the number of horror films in our lineup.”

Both films are produced by the Scandinavian Content Group, also behind Johannes Persson’s “Feed.”

The Other Side (2020)
Oskar Mellander (The Evil Next Door) is back with new horror movie Canceled, and Screen Daily has shared a first-look image from the upcoming film today. Find it up above.

TrustNordisk has boarded sales on Canceled, which is headed to the Cannes market.

Vincent Grahl (Feed), Fanny Klefelt, William Wasberg, Felicia Kartal (Snabba Cash), Emma Valev and Klas Wiljergård star in the upcoming Swedish horror movie.

Screen Daily details, “The story is about horror a group of ghosthunters who have an online show covering paranormal activities where they have been exposed as frauds, but when they visit the notorious Raven Castle they find something truly horrifying.”

Paolo Vacirca and Henry Stenberg produce for Sweden’s Scandinavian Content Group.

Nordisk Film is bolstering its Swedish slate by striking a three-year first-look deal with Scandinavian Content Group.

The pact covers all features in development and production at genre specialist Scandinavian Content Group, including the upcoming titles Carousel, Canceled and an untitled Swedish-Norwegian romcom.

The companies recently worked together on the horror film Feed, directed by Johannes Persson and a local box-office hit.

The first-look option is for distribution deals but could extend to co-financing in some cases.

Magnolia Nabs U.S. Rights to Swedish Horror ‘The Other Side’ (Exclusive)

Magnolia has acquired U.S. rights to the Swedish horror film “The Other Side,” the debut feature from Oskar Mellander and Tord Danielsson. The movie is represented by REinvent Intl. Sales.

“The Other Side” follows a family of three — Shirin, her partner Fredrik and his 5-year old son — who move into a small-town duplex and begin to hear mysterious noises from a supposedly uninhabited part of the house. Shirin comes to realize that they are haunted by an evil that only she can stop. The cast includes Dilan Gwyn (“Love Me”) and Linus Wahlgren (“Blue Eyes”).

REinvent has also scored sales on the film for Spain (A Contracorriente Films), Poland (Best Film) and Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia (Vertigo Media).

Grimmfest have today announced the launch of their Grimmfest Easter Edition, a new annual event taking place over the Easter Weekend, and complimenting the long-established festival in October.

Easter is traditionally a time for rebirth, renewal, resurrection. But as the Pandemic continues to rage, and the world remains on lockdown for the foreseeable future, it is also a time for rethinking. UK genre film festival Grimmfest has revealed the line-up for its first Easter edition, which will open with Kourosh Ahari’s The Night and Lluís Danés’ The Barcelona Vampiress.

The spin-off event to Grimmfest was established after its traditional October festival was moved online, due to the pandemic, and was meant to mark a return to physical screenings for the organisation. Pre-sales to begin at Berlin’s European Film Market.

Rikke Ennis’ REinvent Studios has boarded sales rights to Swedish horror The Other Side and will start pre-sales at Berlin’s European Film Market (Feb 20-28).

A first look at the film will be offered on Friday (Jan 31) at the Works In Progress presentations at Goteborg’s Nordic Film Market.

NonStop Entertainment will release in Scandinavia and the Baltics, with the Swedish premiere set for Halloween 2020.

Goteborg’s Nordic Film Market to Showcase Films by Thomas Vinterberg, Charlotte Blom
Thomas Vinterberg
New films by Thomas Vinterberg, Charlotte Blom and Jonas Poher Rasmussen will be presented at the Goteborg Film Festival’s Nordic Film Market. In total, 16 films in post-production will be presented to industry participants in at the Nordic Film Market as part of the Work-in-Progress section. Half of the lineup is made up of first features.

Cia Edström, the head of the Nordic Film Market, said the industry showcase is seeing a big increase in participation this year. As many as 381 attendees from 25 countries so far have signed up for the event, including 37 sales agents, 67 festival programmers and 47 buyers. Edström noted the breadth and diversity of films and projects in this year’s program.

Vinterberg’s next film, “Another Round” is a modern drama starring Mads Mikkelsen. Represented in international markets by TrustNordisk, the film follows a group of high school teachers who embark on an experiment to be intoxicated...
