Apple TV+’s Foundation series, adapted from Isaac Asimov’s books of the same name, has captivated fans with its dense sci-fi lore, stunning visuals, complex philosophical themes, and galaxy-changing narrative. The show explores the gradual collapse of the Cleonic Dynasty as predicted by mathematician Hari Seldon’s invention—psychohistory.
This fall of the Empire is juxtaposed by the gradual rise of Seldon’s Foundation, which aims to protect a collection of human knowledge called the Encyclopedia Galactica.
With two seasons in the bag and a third currently airing, fans of the Foundation series want more mind-bending, expansive sci-fi tales. Thankfully, there are lore-filled, galaxy-spanning TV shows with the same themes of rebellion, fate, destiny, and more. So, here are seven TV shows that will engross you in their complex worlds, and you will be forced to question the future of humanity.

Nearly ten years after its premiere on Syfy, The Expanse is still capable of topping charts. The series adaptation of James S. A. Corey's — the pen name of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck — sci-fi novels has long been hailed for grounding the genre with the reality of human strife and political intrigue in the reaches of space. Its believable depiction of a dystopian future where humanity has colonized the solar system earned it not only rave reviews to the tune of a 95% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, but also a trio of Hugo Award wins and multiple Saturn Award nominations during its run. Now, it currently occupies the top spot on iTunes' PVOD charts in the U.S., coming out ahead of other sci-fi giants like the acclaimed Battlestar Galactica and comedic Rick and Morty, as well as recent hits like Taylor Sheridan's Landman, which only came in at ninth.

The Expansehas reached the top of the VOD charts, beating out some of the most popular shows of all time.
Per Flix Patrol, the fan-favorite sci-fi series The Expanse has reached the number one spot on the chart for the most viewed series via video-on-demand on iTunes for June 29. Based on James S.A. Stars: Thomas Jane, John Malkovich, Nick Moran, Dominique Tipper, Dean Jagger, Patrick Bergin | Written and Directed by Jesse V. Johnson
Opening with the well-worn quote “One riot. One ranger.” from which it takes its title, One Ranger the new film from action specialist Jesse V. Johnson quickly segues into a scene of Texas Ranger Alex Tyree tying up his horse before rousting a stereotypically drunken Native American fugitive.
That’s interrupted by a call to deal with a crew of bank robbers in an Atv, who’ve left a trail of dead lawmen in their wake. He manages to kill three of them, but the leader, former Ira operative turned killer for hire Declan McBride, makes it to Mexico.
That’s where British Intelligence, in the form of Agent Jennifer Smith, enters the picture. The Mexican authorities have arrested McBride, but won’t officially hand him over to the US or the UK.

One of the best science fiction series of modern times is sadly gearing up to leave Prime Video. Beginning back in 2015, The Expanse, which started life on SyFy before being picked up for more seasons on Amazon, is now listed among the streaming platform’s "Titles expiring in the next 30 days.” Meaning that fans and newcomers only have a short time to catch up on this show, which boasts a score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Captive’s War series by S.A. Corey is on its way to Prime Video! Eventually, that is, since these things take time, especially in the science fiction genre.
For those familiar with The Expanse, a new Prime series from the same authors (James S.A. Corey is a pen name for writers Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck) and showrunners is welcome news.
Even better, The Captive’s War series is an entirely new universe, separate and distinct from The Expanse. With all the sequels, prequels, spin-offs, and wannabes out there, something unique is an exciting prospect.
(Syfy)
Unfortunately, this doesn’t bode well for a potential continuation of The Expanse, a series that ended with three books’ worth of storytelling remaining.
On the bright side, this upcoming release is a good sign for the continued growth of the Science Fiction genre, especially in a more creative and intelligent direction.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Tipper admitted she did not know what Season 2's storyline for Brenda would be but confirmed she would have a role to play. "I don't know if I'm allowed to say, actually. No - I am. Yes, I am, because Chris Black, the creator, mentioned it at the upfront, so yes, you will see more of Brenda Holland," she said. "I don't really know what her storyline is entirely just yet, but I hope we get to see a lot more different sides of her ethics and her morality. But again, I don't actually know, so this is just my own wish for the character."

Brenda Holland will be back in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, confirms Monsterverse star Dominique Tipper. With Monarch's season 1 ending setting up a bigger role for Apex in the show, season 2 could explore their origins and how they rose to the power seen in Godzilla vs. Kong.

The sci-fi genre boasts an incredible array of great casts. Some feature genuine superstars, while others rely on the chemistry of the ensemble in order to succeed. In every case, great ensemble casts help propel the story forward and create beloved characters along the way.
Perhaps more than any other genre, sci-fi TV shows can boast an incredible array of great ensemble casts. Whether as a direct result of plot lines involving complex space travel, or high concepts that require an array of characters to adequately explore, science fiction naturally lends itself to more expansive casts than other areas. Some shows have been able to do this with incredible results.
There are several ways for the best sci-fi TV shows to assemble a great cast. One method is to cast a collection of A-list actors in major roles, all but guaranteeing that their accumulated talent will produce a great result.

Whether as a direct result of plot lines involving complex space travel, or high concepts that require an array of characters to adequately explore, science fiction naturally lends itself to more expansive casts than other areas. Some shows have been able to do this with incredible results.

This post contains spoilers for "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" season 1.
"Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" wrapped up its first season this week with a surprisingly satisfying finale that wove together disparate threads the show has been untangling all season. The sci-fi series' overlong debut season still managed to keep plenty of viewers intrigued with a myriad of monsters, an endless stream of mysteries, and two Russells for the price of one, but its final two episodes are the best "Monarch" has been yet.
There's no bloat in the season's big payoff episode, which sees Lee Shaw and his team of assorted and sundry amateur sleuths enter the Titan realm (Aka the Hollow Earth) after an attempt to seal it off went wrong. Along the way, they finally figure out what happened to Shaw's friend and colleague Kei (Mari Yamamoto) all those years ago. Part emotional reunion, part thrilling, monster-filled adventure, the...

Short final seasons can be successful despite fewer episodes, as seen in The Expanse and Arrow. These shorter seasons still manage to wrap up character storylines and provide satisfying conclusions. Shows like Superstore and New Girl prove that a shorter episode span can work better in certain instances, allowing for new and old storylines to reach a natural conclusion.
While it's not unusual to see a TV show with a short final season, there have been some instances where this has worked in a show's favor. A shorter season of a show can happen for several reasons, such as production issues, the show being canceled, or a writer's strike. Despite having fewer episodes than usual, this doesn't mean that a show cannot still have a successful season.
There are plenty of examples as to why a shorter final season doesn't work. This is usually attributed to a lack of time...

Warning: Spoilers lie ahead for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters!
Kiersey Clemons teases the future of May in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters after the latest episode's twist, suggesting there may be more to come for her character. May's complex history with Apex Cybernetics and their connection to Mechagodzilla's creation leaves room for her return in the Monsterverse's future, possibly in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. It's unclear whether May's story will continue in a potential season 2 of Legacy of Monsters or on the big screen, but there is plenty of room for her character to grow within the franchise.

This article contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters."
Ever since it was announced that the Monster-Verse would expand to television with (the somewhat clunkily-titled) "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters," it felt clear that the series would have to balance kaiju action with human drama in a way none of the big-screen efforts have quite managed to accomplish so far. The early returns have been promising enough, with last week's episode "Terrifying Miracles" perhaps finding the best of both worlds. That storyline, involving our present-day characters searching for Cate and Kentaro's long-lost father Hiroshi (Takehiro Hira), intersected dramatically with the (re)discovery of Godzilla.
By comparison, this week's "Will the Real May Please Stand Up?" dives right back to its human-sized concerns ... but, in the process, includes some major Easter eggs that further connect the two most recent "Godzilla" movies while also hinting at the long-term stakes of the series.

Apple TV+’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode seven opens with a creature emerging from the dirt. Check that…it’s not a creature, it’s Tim (Joe Tippett). He survived the helicopter crash without any major noticeable injuries.
Tindouf, Algeria: Cate (Anna Sawai) is trying to work through why her dad was out there. Kentaro (Ren Watabe) is done worrying about his dad, certain Hiroshi just ran away and left them to die at the feet/claws/jaws of Godzilla.
Meanwhile, May (Kiersey Clemons) waits in the airport bathroom to be kidnapped. Yes, kidnapped. By the time Cate checks on her, she’s gone. Her passport and phone have been left behind.
So, where is May? On board a private jet. A flashback to three years prior in Seattle fills in a few of the May blanks.

The Apple TV+ series is based on Godzilla and serves as the sixth installment in the MonsterVerse. It revolves around the members of an organization called Monarch and it spans over three generations and almost half a decade. The main story follows the events after Godzilla and MUTOs epic battle in 2015 that destroyed San Francisco.
The new Apple TV+ series will finally shed light on the mysterious Monarch organization, and with that, we will also see how humans reacted to the discovery of Titans and how they continue to react.

Although The Expanse may have ended its run as a TV show, the franchise's continued success elsewhere proves why The Expanse season 7, or a movie continuation, must happen. Although The Expanse never became a rating's leviathan of the sci-fi TV realm, the live-action adaptation of James S.A. Corey's book series attracted considerable critical acclaim and commanded an audience so passionate that Amazon felt compelled to save The Expanse when Syfy wielded its axe after season 3. Three seasons later, The Expanse season 6 brought the Rocinante's adventures to a stop once again. Over a year has passed, and a second lifeline is still yet to emerge.
Nevertheless, The Expanse's story is very much not over. Although the Expanse season 6 finale functioned as an overall conclusion, with Marco Inaros defeated and a fragile peace forged between the Belt, Earth, and Mars, seeds were overtly sown for material from James S.

Much like the sci-fi show's ambitious plot, The Expanse cast grew larger with each succeeding season, and the sixth and last season is no exception. Based on the book series of the same name written by Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham under the pen name James S.A. Corey, The Expanse centers on the vast political conflicts between the powers of Earth, Mars, and the Asteroid Belt 300 years in the future. In The Expanse season 6, these conflicts culminate in a system-wide war waged by Belter terrorist Marco Inaros and the Free Navy, whose asteroid attack on Earth has left the planet in shambles.
Newly reinstated Un Secretary General Chrisjen Avasarala looked to coordinate the joint Earth-Mars fleet with James Holden and the crew of the Rocinante in an effort to defeat the Free Navy. Concurrently, Camina Drummer and what remained of her crew evaded Marco's forces in the Belt after betraying...

Here’s a quick one for you… is there anything better than a Jesse V. Johnson movie?
Rhetorical question really because the answer is fairly obvious… No, no there is not because we bloody love this director here at Nerdly. This time out we don’t have frequent collaborator Scott Adkins but we do have the one true Punisher Thomas Jane, along with John Malkovich, that man Nick Moran and The Expanse’s Dominique Tipper.
Texas Ranger Alex Tyree (Jane) is out and about on the hunt for a small-time criminal when he stumbles upon a much bigger crime being committed. After taking out three of the baddies, he is tasked with escorting the fourth who manages to escape the lawman. Tyree is drafted in by British Intelligence to come...

One Ranger is a film written and directed by Jesse V. Johnson starring Thomas Jane and Dominique Tipper. With John Malkovich, who is the great attraction to watch this thriller of (international) cultures encountered.
A b-movie whose great success in finding back the essence of the genre.
Without this being necessarily attractive for the viewer.
Movie Review One Ranger (2023)
Do you feel like reliving the times when video stores were the keepers of magnificent secrets? Yes, they once guard them and we all discovered a culture and, Tarantino included in the pack, we became kind of “cultured” by renting movies that, although entertaining, were not going anywhere.
One Ranger is situated in this genre, in that of an inconsequential thriller film that, however, knows how to make a tribute to b-movie thrillers and gives us one nod after the other.

Thomas Jane slings guns and a Southern drawl while chasing terrorists across the pond in a new action movie. One Ranger has a rugged Texas lawman, always sporting his cowboy hat and brass belt buckle, showing the hapless Brits how to catch baddies on their own soil. An action-packed opening in the desert leads nowhere as the film never comes close to reaching that high bar again. A scattershot plot with poorly written characters suffers from gaping logic holes. The lack of cohesiveness compounds as a secondary villain takes center stage for no reason whatsoever.
In the Laredo flats, Texas Ranger Alex Tyree (Jane) busts a sleeping Tom (Gregory Zarogaza). He gives the horse and rifle thief two options — he can come peacefully in handcuffs or as a carcass. Alex's radio squawks an alert. Bank robbers have killed three officers and are heading to the Mexican border.

As the saying goes, you can take the man out of Texas … but apparently he’ll drag an arsenal of Lone Star State clichés wherever he goes, at least in “One Ranger.” Stuntman turned writer-director Jesse V. Johnson’s latest action programmer has Thomas Jane as a Texas Ranger so ornery-tough he makes even Chuck Norris look too nice, called upon to chase terrorists overseas for no obvious reason at all. Well, perhaps the reason is simply to indulge some viewers’ notion that Texamurricans just naturally shoot ’n’ smack them foreign evildoers better. Those not buying such logic will find this mediocre effort ridiculous as well as uninspired. Lionsgate is releasing the feature to 11 U.S. theaters as well as digital and on-demand platforms on May 5.

While modern character complexities found within the Western genre have surely widened since the days of Gene Autry and Roy Rogers with movies like 2007’s No Country for Old Men and 2015’s The Hateful Eight that show the psychological side of the cowboy, these films both came out over ten years ago. With such a wide gap between the two groups, there is no greater time for this category of film to be having a true revival on the big screen. With the help of a director that specializes in action thrillers, Lionsgate Films is hoping to aim for the high mark with a soon-to-be released movie that puts a modern spin on an old character.

"You're in the UK now - protocol is everything." Lionsgate has revealed the action-packed official trailer for an international crime thriller titled One Ranger, the latest from action filmmaker Jesse V. Johnson. This one is set to open in May, yet another of these action dime-a-dozen films they're churning out left and right. The film follows a Texas Ranger as he is recruited by British Intelligence to track down a dangerous terrorist and stop him from attacking London. He must help them bring the outlaw to justice — dead or alive. The film stars John Malkovich as one of the Brits, with Thomas Jane as the Texas Ranger, plus Dominique Tipper, Dean Jagger, Jess Liaudin, Rachel Wilde, Nick Moran, and Patrick Bergin. Airing its final episode in January 2022, The Expanse looked to be burning toward a bright new future but, one year later, the Rocinante's glorious comeback has been as cold and silent as the vast reaches of space itself. The Expanse had already averted disaster once before. Originally airing on the Syfy channel, the live-action adaptation of James S.A. Corey's book series ran for three seasons between 2015 and 2018 before facing the cruel guillotine of cable cancelation. Jeff Bezos quickly stepped in, stumping up the cash for an additional three seasons that ran between 2019 and 2022 before the Rocinante's flight plan was thwarted once again.
Despite being afforded one final run, three of James S.A. Corey's novels remained untouched, with The Expanse season 6 continuing the show's pattern of covering more or less one book per season. The TV story faced a choice between crafting an original ending that concluded all...

The latest episode of "The Expanse" includes a lot of emotionally intense moments, but one that especially stands out is that scene between Holden (Steven Strait) and Naomi (Dominique Tipper).
/Film had the chance to ask Strait and Tipper about that scene and what it meant for their characters as well as what it was like for them as actors to perform it. Read on for a very spoiler-filled conversation about "Redoubt," the sixth season's fourth episode.

Throughout its six seasons as one of the best sci-fi TV shows in recent memory, “The Expanse” has always seemed to thrive in certain extremes. From its basic cable origins to its three-year Prime Video run, the show has been at its best when it’s either at rest or its characters are in utter turmoil.
From a pure logistical standpoint, no other series has as full a sense of its world’s mechanics quite like “The Expanse.” Much of that comes from its source material, the books written by James S.A. Corey, the pseudonym of writing team Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (who also write a good portion of the scripts for the new Season 6). The long-established geopolitical relationships between citizens of Earth, Mars, and the Belt complement the tactile nature of resources and equipment it takes to travel between those locations (and beyond them). From language to dress to various cultural touchstones,...

We chatted with series stars Steven Strait and Dominique Tipper about what it was like to bring The Expanse to a close after it was canceled and saved, how the absence of one crew member and the addition of another will affect the dynamic on the Roci, and what their biggest hopes were for their characters in the final episodes. Amazon Studios So, you’ve had quite a journey on The Expanse, starting on Syfy, being saved by Amazon, filming during the pandemic… With all that in mind, what was it like going into Season 6 and knowing that it was the last one? Strait: Bittersweet. On one hand, incredibly grateful that we were able to finish the story. It was always the dream, from the beginning,...
