The 15 Disney Plus Shows That Justify A Subscription
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Disney+ leans into its nostalgic persona by creating collections centered on different decades and themes. The streaming service knows what its audience wants, and it's dedicated to making sure that you get that content quickly. However, it's hoping you'll stick around after you've completed a sing-along with favorites like "High School Musical." That's why the service is continuously working to bring new shows to the platform while offering built-in suggestions for each title.

/Film considers Disney+ to be one of the best streaming services out there. This is partially due to how it incorporates the company's newer acquisitions, like Marvel, 20th Century Fox, and National Geographic. While Disney+ offers favorites from each brand, it also produces new content from these acquired names in the hopes that you will stick around for more. Disney's continued growth means numerous options, but trying...

'It's Really Moving': David Schwimmer on What Makes Friends So Meaningful After 30+ Years
Image
Friends’ theme song may have been “I’ll Be There for You,” but the sitcom, more than 30 years after it premiered, has been there for several generations. One of the show’s stars, David Schwimmer, who can currently be seen in the new Hulu/Disney+ series, Goosebumps: The Vanishing, says that three decades later he still realizes how meaningful the show is to him and to the fans.

“What’s really meaningful to me is when I’ll bump into someone on the street and they’ll say, ‘I just want you to know, I was going through a really tough time, I was in the hospital,’ whatever. ‘And the thing that kept me going was watching Friends,” Schwimmer told GamesRadar+. The Emmy-nominated actor portrayed Ross Geller in all 10 seasons of Friends, which aired on NBC from 1994 until 2004.

Schwimmer continued, “For someone I’ve never met to come up to...

David Schwimmer Brought His Own Corny Dad Jokes to ‘Goosebumps: The Vanishing,’ Showrunners Say
Image
David Schwimmer brought his own corny dad jokes for his botanist character in “Goosebumps: The Vanishing,” the second season of the Disney+ and Hulu series inspired by R.L. Stine’s iconic stories.

For example, the punny plant joke that makes his teenage kids on the show — Devin (Sam McCarthy) and Cece (Jayden Bartels) — wince the hardest is, “What plant should you watch out for? An ambush.”

Showrunner Rob Letterman told TheWrap in a recent interview, “He did a deep dive on, ‘Ok, botanist. Bad dad jokes. Bad dad plant jokes.'”

Fellow showrunner Hilary Winston added, “He sent us a list of these jokes. It was so cool.”

'We Joke About This': Goosebumps EP Explains Why Season 2 Follows New Characters
Image
The second season of Goosebumps recently began airing on Disney+ and Hulu, and the show has taken on an anthology format which follows entirely new characters. The show's executive producers recently shared the reasoning for not continuing the first season's story.

The second season of the anthology series, titled Goosebumps: The Vanishing, adapts R.L. Stine's Stay Out of the Basement -- a very different story than the first season's plot about five high schoolers investigating the decades-old death of a teen named Harold Biddle. Speaking with ComicBook.com, Goosebumps: The Vanishing executive producer Rob Letterman discussed the choice to have the show be an anthology -- especially after season one's massive cliffhanger finale.

Does Goosebumps: The Vanishing Connect To Season 1's Story?
Image
Although Goosebumps: The Vanishing doesn’t follow the story of season 1 directly, that doesn’t mean there are no potential links between the two outings. 2023’s Goosebumps TV adaptation changed the approach of the ‘90s TV show that first adapted author Rl Stine’s best-selling children’s horror series. Goosebumps is aimed at an older audience and, where the original ‘90s series adapted one standalone book per episode, the 2023 TV show instead merged the storylines of various Stine novels to make a single season-length storyline. This culminated with Goosebumps season 1’s cliffhanger ending.

Goosebumps The Vanishing TV Review: David Schwimmer leads a fun and scary second season
Image
Plot: Begins with fraternal twins Devin and Cece adjusting to life with their recently divorced dad, Anthony. When the duo discovers a threat stirring, they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery.

Review: Growing up, I was slightly too old to enjoy Goosebumps. While I was graduating from Christopher Pike novels and R.L. Stine’s Fear Street series to the more mature novels of Stephen King, tons of kids entered the gateway horror of Stine’s fun brand of scary stories to tell in the dark. The anthology series was a hit with kids looking for a good scare, and the big-screen films starring Jack Black amped up the comedy for a big-budget adventure. Disney+ and Hulu’s reboot of the franchise was a successful, scary take on the source material back in 2023, and this year’s sophomore entry is equally good.

'Goosebumps: The Vanishing' Ending, Explained
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Goosebumps: the Vanishing.

The second season of Disney+’s anthology series, Goosebumps, recently landed on the platform and tells a very different story than its predecessor. The newest season, titled Goosebumps: the Vanishing, follows a group of teenagers in Brooklyn who become entangled in the mystery of four high schoolers who went missing in 1994. At the center of the story is Anthony (David Schwimmer) and his twin children, Cece (Jayden Bartels) and Devin (Sam McCarthy), both of whom come to stay with him for the summer.

Now a botanist, Anthony has grown up in the shadow of his brother Matty’s (Christopher Paul Richards) disappearance 30 years prior. As one of the teens who mysteriously vanished while sneaking around a former military fort, colloquially referred to as Camp Nightmare, Matty’s body was never recovered but all of his clothes were. Because of this, Anthony never believed Matty...

'Oh, I'm No Longer 22': David Schwimmer Talks About His On-Set Injury While Filming Goosebumps: The Vanishing
Image
David Schwimmer is admitting he’s not as young as he used to be after he hurt his back filming the Hulu/Disney+ series Goosebumps: The Vanishing. The Friends actor said he got a bit sore after the injury on the set of his new show, based on the R.L. Stine books, which premiered on Jan. 10.

“There was a day filming Goosebumps that required doing a stunt over and over,” Schwimmer told People. “I get spun on the stool sitting at my desk and yanked forward. I didn’t really hurt myself, but the next day I was like, ‘Oh, I’m no longer 22,'” said the Emmy-nominated actor, who is 58. He added that “everything” in his body felt a little sore after the incident, especially his back.

David Schwimmer on the ‘Beauty’ of ‘Goosebumps’ and How ‘Friends’ Went From ‘Challenging’ and ‘Dark’ to the ‘Gift That Keeps on Giving’
Image
In the two decades since wrapping up his 10-season run as neurotic paleontologist Ross Geller on the beloved NBC sitcom “Friends,” David Schwimmer has branched out across genres and mediums.

Following the series finale of “Friends” in 2004, Schwimmer, unlike his costars, decided to move from Los Angeles back to his native New York City, and briefly stepped away from the spotlight. He has spent the intervening years chasing his own creative pursuits: returning to his first love of theater and conquering the West End and Broadway stages; voicing Melman the giraffe in the “Madagascar” franchise; appearing in some niche indies; and parlaying his experience as an episodic director into helming his own features.

Since becoming a father in 2011, “I’ve really been enjoying being a parent and not really wanting to leave home that much, to be honest with you, so I guess I became a bit pickier in terms...

‘Goosebumps’ Author R.L. Stine Admits He’s Going to Be 112 and ‘Still Writing These Books’
Image
R.L. Stine, the author of the beloved “Goosebumps” series, praised the new installment, “Goosebumps: The Vanishing,” as being really scary and predicted that “people are going to love it.”

The series, which premiered Friday on Disney+ and Hulu, stars David Schwimmer as botanist Anthony Brewer, whose kids Devin (Sam McCarthy) and Cece (Jayden Bartels) come to visit for the summer. When Devin delves into the mystery of how his uncle vanished in the ’90s, new dangers — including some particularly nasty and grabby vines — stalk them all.

The 81-year-old author talked to TheWrap about why people love horror so much and joked that he’s going to be writing the book series 30 years from now, when he’s 112, since he just signed on to pen six more.

R.L. Stine Reveals What “Shocked” Him About ‘Goosebumps: The Vanishing’ & Which Book He Wants Adapted Next
Image
While the horror genre continues to evolve onscreen, the stories of R.L. Stine are spooking audiences of a whole new generation.

In Sony Pictures Television‘s Goosebumps: The Vanishing, Season 2 of the Disney+ anthology adaptation from Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller, the author’s works come to life onscreen once again in a whole new setting, the Gravesend neighborhood of Brooklyn.

“I’m shocked by it,” Stine told Deadline. “I have a superstition. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, in a suburb, so most of the Goosebumps books take place in the backyard, a suburban backyard, which I think most kids can identify with.”

Still, the beloved children’s book scribe says the new season of Goosebumps “looks nice” after filming in Brooklyn and Queens.

Largely inspired by Stay Out of the Basement (1992), Stine’s second entry in the Goosebumps series, The Vanishing follows twins Devin (Sam McCarthy) and Cece...

Goosebumps: The Vanishing Cast & Character Guide
Image
While Goosebumps: The Vanishing might not bring back the cast of the show’s first season, it does feature plenty of familiar faces. The success of 2023’s Goosebumps TV series means that viewers are getting another season of the horror anthology show in 2025. However, Goosebumps: The Vanishing will not pick up where Goosebumps season 1’s cliffhanger ending left off. Goosebumps: The Vanishing's Letterman & Winston On Anthology Season, Casting David Schwimmer & Choosing Books
Image
Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston are taking their R.L. Stine-based hit show in a new direction with Goosebumps: The Vanishing. Letterman, whose history with the franchise goes back to directing the 2015 Jack Black-led movie adaptation of the horror novels, co-developed the show with Nicholas Stoller, whose filmography ranges from helming the fan-favorite comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall to co-creating and directing the acclaimed Apple TV+ comedy show Platonic. Winston, whose producorial career took off with My Name is Earl, was a co-showrunner with Letterman and Stoller on season 1 and is now sole showrunner on the new season.

Goosebumps: The Vanishing shifts the focus away from the season 1 finale and to New York City, putting its focus on botanist and single father Anthony as his twin teen children come to stay with him for the summer. Anthony, having been focused on discovering the answers to his brother's disappearance when they were teenagers,...

Ana Ortiz and Francesca Noel on Goosebumps’ Enduring Appeal
Image
In 2023, Disney+ resurrected R.L. Stine's children's horror anthology classic, Goosebumps, for streaming audiences. Nodding both to the franchise's past such as demonic dummies, supernatural scares and young leads and updating elements for modern tastes — namely intergenerational horror, ensemble casts and a single-season story loaded with lore and intrigue — the 2023 Goosebumps reboot proved to be a sleeper hit. Over a year later, the series has returned with a second season, along with a new story and cast of characters.

Goosebumps: The Vanishing follows a dysfunctional family – warring twins Devin (Sam McCarthy) and CeCe (Jayden Bartels) and their estranged father, Anthony (David Schwimmer) – and the citizens of Brooklyn, including Anthony's friend and police detective Jen (Ana Ortiz) and Jen's rebellious teen daughter Alex (Francesca Noel), find themselves entangled in the long-buried mystery of Anthony's brother's disappearance thirty years ago. The second season of the new Goosebumps TV series, Goosebumps: The Vanishing is set to make its premiere on January 10th on Disney+ and Hulu – and with just hours to go until all of the episodes drop, Disney+ has unveiled the opening scene of the first episode. This scene, which takes us back to 1994 Brooklyn and has Beastie Boys on the soundtrack, can be viewed in the embed above.

The first season of Goosebumps centered on a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle — while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past. The show is taking the anthology route, so we can expect a second season that has “an entirely new cast and setting based on R.L. Stine’s iconic Scholastic book series.” Season 2 will also consist of eight episodes,...

Image
Francesca Noel and Ana Ortiz are a mother and daughter who must reckon with the resurgence of a secret from the former's past in Goosebumps: The Vanishing. The latest season of the Disney+ adaptation of R.L. Stine's novels continues Noel's rise to stardom, having previously appeared in a variety of shorts, as well as the coming-of-age drama Selah and the Spades and R#J, a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic. Ortiz, on the other hand, has enjoyed a career of both main and supporting roles in a variety of hit movies and TV shows, namely Ugly Betty and Hulu's Love, Victor, among others.

Noel and Ortiz star in Goosebumps: The Vanishing's story as Alex and Jen, the neighbors to David Schwimmer's Anthony, with whom the latter was also a childhood friend. Jen is a police detective who has been secretly investigating the mysterious disappearance...

David Schwimmer joins 'Goosebumps' Season 2, here’s what to know
Image
The chills return with a new storyline, fresh faces, and classic R.L. Stine scares.

R.L. Stine’s classic “Goosebumps” books were some of my favorite reads as a kid. Even now, I still remember moments from “One Day at HorrorLand,” the book that took place at the horrifying amusement park (the twist ending is epic). When it comes to the original “Goosebumps” series, I’ll be frank: these were too scary for me as a kid. Even today, I don’t watch many hardcore horror movies because I’m not built to handle them. All that aside, I was pretty excited when Disney and Sony Pictures Television managed to hook up and reboot “Goosebumps” in 2023. The tone is light enough for me to handle, and the nostalgia factor is through the roof. If you missed the first season of “Goosebumps,” don’t worry about it. It’s an anthology series,...

Stine's iconic children's horror novels of the same name, with the first season centering on a group of teens in a fictional small town of Washington who inadvertently unleash an evil force connected to the death of a teen from 30 years prior. The Vanishing is taking an anthology approach to the show, focusing on a new set of characters in New York and their investigation into the disappearance of a teen from 30 years prior.

Among the Goosebumps: The Vanishing's roster of characters is American Born Chinese alum Stony Blyden as Trey, the jock of the group who proves antagonistic to main characters, Devin and Cece, after the former begins bonding with his girlfriend, Frankie. The latter, a creative free spirit, is played by Galilea La Salvia,...

Goosebumps: The Vanishing's David Schwimmer On Jumping From Comedy To Horror & Chilling Transformation
Image
David Schwimmer is venturing into the chilling world of horror for the first time in Goosebumps: The Vanishing. Though having worked steadily through the early '90s in recurring and supporting roles in both film and TV, Schwimmer quickly became a household name thanks to his turn as Ross Geller in the hit sitcom Friends, a role he played for all 10 seasons, and earned an Emmy nomination for. The years since have seen him explore a wide variety of genres, including the true-story-based The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, which netted him his second Emmy nomination, and the animated Madagascar franchise.

Schwimmer stars in Goosebumps: The Vanishing as Anthony, a single father and botanist living in New York whose teenage son Devin and daughter Cece come to stay with him for the summer. Since he was a teenager, Anthony has been haunted by the sudden disappearance of his brother,...

‘Goosebumps: The Vanishing’ Preview – New Season Features Found Footage and This Classic Stine Tale [Interview]
Image
Viewers, it is time once again to beware…

A little more than a year has passed since R.L. Stine’s monstrous creations once again took root on our television screens, this time manifesting as a dark, aged-up departure from the franchise’s sugary hued history. Combining classic Goosebumps lore with modern thrills and a grounded approach that allowed the heightened frights and characterizations to reclaim some of what made them so terrifying to young readers in the first place, the new show aimed to forge a fresh and frightening path to the franchise for newcomers and longtime acolytes alike.

With new season Goosebumps: The Vanishing, the show returns to screens once more. Staying ever true to its roots, Goosebumps: The Vanishing is an entirely new story of the grander anthology series that maintains the more mature and grounded tonalities that so strikingly differentiated the previous season from what had come before.

Goosebumps Season 2’s Stars Talk About Working With This Friends Actor
Image
In 2023, Disney+ brought back R.L. Stine's groundbreaking 90s horror anthology Goosebumps to the TV screen, updating the iconic franchise for a new generation and audience. The first season introduced darker, more mature stories for older, teenage audiences, with updated settings, themes and stakes. Despite these changes, it still stayed true to its roots, from its supernatural elements, gratuitous body horror, and demonically-possessed dummies. In 2024, Disney+ announced that the reboot would return with a whole new season and a brand-new story in Goosebumps: The Vanishing.

Starring David Schwimmer, Sam McCarthy and Jayden Bartels, Goosebumps: The Vanishing follows troubled twins Devin (McCarthy) and CeCe (Bartels) and their divorced father Anthony (Schwimmer) as they are pulled into a mystery that has haunted all of Brooklyn and especially their own family, resulting in the disappearance of Anthony's brother decades ago. It turns out, the clues to the mystery may be much closer to...

Goosebumps: The Vanishing Producer Hints At Season 1 Cast's Possible Return
Image
Goosebumps: The Vanishing will feature a fresh cast in a new creepy story. But that doesn't mean the characters from Season 1 are gone forever.

Speaking to The Direct, producer Rob Letterman said that Isaiah, Margot, James, Isabella, Lucas, and Mr. Nathan Bratt could return at some point. "If I say we will never go back, then that'll probably trigger the opposite thing," he explained. "I really don't know about anything. Yeah, you never say never for stuff like that. You know, anything's possible. And one of the great things about Goosebumps is, you know, R.L Stein did circle back a few times to a couple things [like] Slappy for instance."

Goosebumps Showrunner Explains Leaving Season 1 Cliffhanger Unresolved
Image
Spoilers for 2023's Goosebumps TV series ahead.

The showrunners of the 2023 Goosebumps reboot series recently explained their decision to not resolve season one's cliffhanger ending. The second season, titled Goosebumps: The Vanishing, is set to premiere on Jan. 10.

Speaking with ScreenRant, Goosebumps co-creator Rob Letterman and showrunner Hilary Winston discussed the show's upcoming second season, which will be presented as an anthology rather than following up after the events of the first season. Letterman and Winston referred back to R.L. Stine's source material, citing that the Goosebumps book series often ends with a similar approach. "It's a thinking, and it's sort of our justification of why it works. I think, ultimately, that's how the books tend to end, where it opens a big door and a big twist, and it's kind of what we love about the material," Letterman said.

Why Goosebumps Season 1's Cliffhanger Won't Be Resolved In New Anthology Season Explained By Creator & Showrunner
Image
With the show's upcoming return going in a similar direction to American Horror Story, Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston share why Goosebumps: The Vanishing won't resolve the season 1 cliffhanger ending. The next season is taking an anthology approach to adapting R.L. Stine's iconic novel series, centering on teen siblings Devin and Cece as they go to stay with their dad, only for a new wrinkle in the dark mystery from their family's past to unleash mayhem. David Schwimmer will lead the Goosebumps: The Vanishing cast as their father, alongside Sam McCarthy, Jayden Bartels and Ana Ortiz, among others.

Ahead of the show's January 10 premiere, ScreenRant interviewed co-creator Rob Letterman and showrunner Hilary Winston to discuss Goosebumps: The Vanishing. When asked about the decision to go in an anthology route for the new season, rather than build on season 1's cliffhanger ending, the duo pointed to how it stays in...

Disney+ and Hulu Series 'Goosebumps' Season 2 Debuts January 10
Image
With a bevy of series and movies from global properties like Star Wars and Marvel joining Disney+ and Hulu each month, it's easy for an under-the-radar young adult series to go unnoticed — even those backed by nostalgic IP. Back in October 2023, that's precisely what happened when an ingenious interpretation of Goosebumps debuted on the streaming platforms. A little over a year later, fans are finally getting the second season—Goosebumps: The Vanishing—slated to be released on January 10.

Based on the series of beloved yet terrifying children's horror novels by the same name, Goosebumps (2023) serialized the anthology series originally penned by author R. L. Stine. Of course, this wasn't the first adaptation of the acclaimed series; there was a '90s television series that closely adapted individual stories and two films starring Jack Black as the horror author himself. Goosebumps (2023), however, differed considerably from the book series and the '...

David Schwimmer and two key creatives behind Goosebumps have discussed the show giving him his first lead horror role. The Disney+ anthology series is inspired by the children's book series of the same name by R. L. Stine and tells a different family-friendly horror story every season. In the same The Hollywood Reporter interview where he revealed that Netflix is developing three more Fear Street movies, author R.L. David Schwimmer Shares His Biggest Fear Ahead of Goosebumps: The Vanishing Premiere
Image
Goosebumps: The Vanishing promises to include more than a few scares when Season 2 of the anthology series premieres on Disney+. However, David Schwimmer, who will lead an all-new cast, recently revealed that his biggest fear comes from real life.

"What gives me goosebumps in real life, not watching a movie or something, is when you are looking for your car at night in an underground parking lot, and you suddenly have that moment of, 'I don't know where my car is, and I'm utterly alone in this parking lot,'" Schwimmer told GamesRadar+. "I hope I'm not the only person who's experienced that. But then you hear some sound, but you don't know where it came from, and then you're just like, 'Oh, Ok; I hope I find my car.'"
