A24's new horror movie with a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score is now available to watch digitally. Founded in 2012, the independent studio's first film was A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III in 2013 and A24's first foray into horror, Robert Eggers' The Witch, followed in 2015. Since then, the indie studio has developed a reputation for its distinct brand of horror, which often prioritizes atmospheric horror over jump scares, as seen in Ari Aster's Hereditary, Midsommar, and Beau is Afraid.
As 2024 comes to an end, it has been an incredibly strong year for A24, with almost every one of its releases, save for The Front Room (42%) and Y2K (45%), receiving Certified Fresh scores on Rotten Tomatoes, including Love Lies Bleeding (94%), Civil War (81%), We Live in Time (78%), and more. Heretic has made a major step toward profitability. The new A24 horror movie was written and directed by A Quiet Place scribes Scott Beck and Bryan Woods and stars Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East as a pair of Mormon missionaries who find themselves trapped in the home of Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant), who experiments on them as he tries to argue them out of their faith. The Heretic release debuted at No. 3 at the domestic box office with a 3-day gross of $10.8 million.
Per Variety, as of Saturday morning, Heretic is projected to earn a 3-day gross of $4.6 million during its second weekend. This will push its domestic gross past the $20 million milestone in addition to raising its global box office total to more than $25 million. Heretic gives us another side to Hugh Grant. The veteran actor has entertained us for years be it in a comedy or a romance but he takes on an entirely sinister role in Scott Beck and Bryan Woods thrilling religious horror. The writer-director duos film is a wildly engaging cat-and-mouse hunt between Grants Mr. Reed and Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East), missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Beck and Woods know how to build up to something exciting. The films tension never lets up, leaving us on the edge of our seats.

A24's latest twisty chiller, Heretic, is now in theatres, and we're breaking down what happens in the final act of the critically-acclaimed religious horror flick.
Written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who broke through with their script for John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place, Heretic stars Hugh Grant as Mr. Reed, who has some fiendish plans for two missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sister Barnes (Sophie Thatcher) and Sister Paxton (Chloe East), who come calling.
Initially wary of coming inside the house, the girls feel more at ease when the seemingly gregarious and welcoming Reed tells them that his wife is at home and currently baking a pie in the kitchen. Alarm bells go off when one of them notices a blueberry pie scented candle burning on the table, and Reed's mask begins to slip.

A24 isn’t done scaring up dollars at the box office as the studio’s horror thriller, Heretic, looks to convert $10M during the film’s box-office launch. Analysts see the chilling feature starring Hugh Grant at $8-10M from 3,200 cinemas, especially if audiences still feel spooky after the Halloween holiday. In contrast, Lionsgate’s faith-based family film The Best Christmas Pageant Ever could pull a cheerful $6 million to $8 million during its debut from 3,000 theaters.
While new films are typically the cat’s pajamas at the box office, analysts predict Sony’s Venom: The Last Dance will take another bite out of the top spot. The symbiotic sequel could drop 40% to 50% from the weekend before, resulting in $13 million to $15 million in upcoming ticket sales. Venom: The Last Dance is holding onto screens after earning $318M worldwide, compared to 2018’s Venom ($856M) and 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage ($506M). The...

The directors behind Heretic explain why actor Hugh Grant was the perfect choice for his role. Heretic is an upcoming A24 film about a duo of young missionary women who go door to door to try to recruit people into their religion. One man's home seems particularly welcoming, only for the two young women to discover something far more sinister at play. Heretic features a leading cast including Grant, Sophie Thatcher, Chloe East, Topher Grace, Elle Young, and Julie Lynn Mortensen. It is written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods.
As per Collider, Beck and Woods explain why Grant was the perfect choice for the villain role. In their interview, the directors noted that the actor "has built up so much goodwill with the audiences around the world over his romantic comedy movies." While this creates a more carefree version of the actor, Grant has "also gotten into...

Heretic will put religion to the test when it hits theaters this November. According to the cast of the A24 horror thriller, the story had an impact on their personal beliefs.
Speaking to ComicBook, Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East, who play Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton, explained how the film strengthened their faith. "I learned a lot about earlier religions, so I think that's interesting to learn that a lot of religions are just re-iterations of the same story. So that was interesting. But yeah, I've always been kind of agnostic. So this kind of re-affirmed my belief."

Heretic promises to up the ante when it comes to its antagonist, Mr. Reed. According to Hugh Grant, who brings the character to life in the upcoming psychological horror from A24, viewers' fascination with villains stems from our true nature.
"If you go to any pantomime, who does the audience love? They love the baddie, and we are drawn to baddies," Grant told GamesRadar+ when asked to share why he thinks audiences are often drawn to bad guys in films and on television. "My personal theory is that it's because we are bad, and it's a recognition of our true nature - selfish, evil, cruel, vicious."

One can vividly remember the ‘golden’ days when Hugh Grant would be on our TV screens, wooing women with his charming blue eyes, electric smile, and impeccable line delivery in many of his romantic films. Those were the times when ‘romance’ was still very much ‘alive’ and ‘real’, thanks to the wicked charms of actors like Grant, his ‘arch-nemesis’ Colin Firth, Matthew McConaughey, and many, many more.

Hugh Grant is going full-blown baddie in A24s upcoming horror flick, Heretic. True, the award-winning actor has played scoundrels in the past. Grants Daniel Cleaver certainly caused problems aplenty for Bridget Jones (Rene Zellweger) over the years. And who can forget Grants deliciously naughty performance as Fletcher in The Gentlemen? Well, theres no gray area this time: Grant is ghastly! And the thespian draws on real life, particularly people he knows, as inspiration for his cringy character, Mr. Reed. Grant said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:
"There have been people in my life who were useful to me, people who were very, very clever - brilliant, really, and in some ways very plausible and quite charming and quite bewitching, but who you gradually realize that there's something deeply wrong with them. Sometimes, the scariest thing isnt the possibility of a zombie outbreak, a werewolf, or a vampire its being confronted by the flaws in everything you believe, and realizing you may be a pawn in a game you never consented to play. Writer/directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods take a big detour from their work on A Quiet Place and 65 with their latest film, Heretic, a far from prototypical horror movie. A24 has unveiled the gripping trailer for its upcoming psychological horror film, Heretic, directed and written by the talented duo Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. Starring Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East, the film promises a chilling exploration of faith and fear, set against the backdrop of a sinister game orchestrated by Grant’s character, Mr. Reed.

The trailer showcases Reed’s menacing challenge: “I won’t keep you if you wish to leave, but I want you to choose which door to go through based on your faith,” he declares, pointing to two doorways labelled “Belief” and “Disbelief.” The scene escalates into a life-sized labyrinth,...
