Chris Collier was born in Brighton, East Sussex, England. He is a director best known for his trilogy of films exploring stories from the edge of cinema: Captured Souls: In Conversation with Graham Humphreys (2025), Title (Year) Director. Place (2023), and FrightFest: Beneath the Dark Heart of Cinema (2018). Drawing on the rich tradition of British documentary filmmaking, Chris focuses on intimate, character-driven narratives, witnessing lives, finding the extraordinary in the everyday, and sharing the insights these stories reveal.
In contrast to his documentary work, most of Chris's other work is experimental art house where he has made several films, including several one-off installations in collaboration with contemporary pop artist Billy Chainsaw. These works were exhibited at various galleries across London between 2016 and 2018.
Chris's initial work in film was in the sound department, completing the sound design on many projects. This included the sound restoration for the feature documentary The Woods Movie (2015). The initial move to film was a natural progression from music production. While developing future projects, he has continued to work in the sound department and as an editor on several short subjects and feature films. He was a founding partner in the 24 Foot Square production company.
