Netflix viewers are urging science fiction fans to watch one of the streamer’s most underrated shows. The series, which boasts a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, is titled Pantheon, and tackles issues such as death, the overreach of technology, and what it means to be human. The animated series has tragically flown under the radar since it began back in 2022, but now, fans of the sci-fi drama are pushing to raise the profile of Pantheon, taking to social media to persuade streamers to add the series to their lists.
X/Twitter user @JasonKPargin started the push, saying, “Go watch Pantheon, the best show on streaming that nobody knows about.” Fellow user and fan @Jimbo_Zen was glad to see the show getting some attention, adding, “Yes! Glad some people are beginning to become aware of this show.”

Happy Friday! Welcome to another rundown of what’s new on Netflix over the past seven days. It’s been a relatively quiet week for new arrivals, but there were definitely a few hidden gems. Plus, Netflix cleared the Original deck for its highly anticipated Robert De Niro limited series, Zero Day. Here’s a look back at everything new and what’s been trending in the Netflix Top 10 this past week.
We should also discuss a couple of re-additions and very quick removals on Netflix this week. Interestingly, Trump: An American Dream was abruptly removed from the service yesterday globally, and after only a day, it’s back, albeit without Netflix Original branding. I have no idea what happened here. It wasn’t scheduled to be removed and from first glance, nothing has changed with it – bizarre. Also, One Piece fans can rest easy; the two specials...

The Bling Ring captures the superficial materialism and celebrity culture of the 2010s. Sofia Coppola uses sharp satire to explore the allure of fame and hollow material desires. Emma Watson's performance as Nicki Moore adds layers to a cast of mostly one-dimensional characters.
Looking back on Sofia Coppolas satirical crime film The Bling Ring more than ten years later reveals how much the world of celebrity has changed. While young peoples need for external validation means this story of fame-obsessed teenagers robbing celebrities' houses will always be relevant, it also points to a bygone era of consumerism and tabloid culture where Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan were practically Hollywood royalty. With the power of hindsight, The Bling Ring is a unique time capsule of the 2010s that unfortunately fails to explore its subject with the level of depth needed to be truly compelling.

Fred Roos, the casting director turned producer who jump-started the career of Jack Nicholson and collaborated often with Francis Ford Coppola, sharing a best picture Oscar with the filmmaker for The Godfather Part II, has died. He was 89.
Roos died Saturday at his home in Beverly Hills, a publicist announced.
It’s part of Hollywood lore that before Harrison Ford became a famous actor, he was laboring as a carpenter to make ends meet. What some might not know is that it was at Roos’ house where Ford was woodworking when the casting director befriended him, eventually pushing him for roles in George Lucas’ American Graffiti (1973) and Star Wars (1977) and Coppola’s The Conversation (1974).
And it was Roos who convinced Lucas — who had been leaning toward Amy Irving — that Carrie Fisher should portray Princess Leia in Star Wars. (Roos did not have an official role on that film.)

Sofia Coppola reveals that she passed on directing The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 because she found the imprinting-werewolf aspect too weird. Coppola's decision to turn down Twilight allowed her to direct other projects like The Bling Ring, The Beguiled, and On the Rocks, solidifying her position as a top director. The controversial plot point of imprinting on a baby in Breaking Dawn - Part 2 has sparked debate, and it's understandable why Coppola would have taken issue with it.

Perhaps AMC should stand for Another Maddening Cancellation. As AMC Networks’ canceling spree continues, the company has nixed the animated AMC+ series Pantheon after one season, even though it had ordered two seasons and the second season had already been produced. In another blow to fans, the first season of Pantheon has been removed from the AMC+ library, according to Deadline, which first reported the cancellation news. Created by Craig Silverstein and based on short stories by award-winning author Ken Liu, Pantheon“explore[d] the theme of technology through the lens of family, focusing on both the people whose brains have been digitally uploaded and the loved ones they’ve left behind,” AMC Networks said in an August 2022 press release. “Maddie [Katie Chang], a bullied teen, receives help from someone online. Exclusive: Animated drama series Pantheon, which stars the voices of Daniel Dae Kim, Paul Dano and Taylor Schilling, is the latest series to be scrapped at AMC Networks.
The series has been canceled after one season, despite a two-season order, and pulled from AMC’s streaming service as part of the company’s cost-cutting drive. The second season, which had been produced, will not air.
Pantheon joins shows such as Demascus, Invitation to a Bonfire and the second seasons of 61st Street and Moonhaven, which were all axed as part of a one-time tax write-down at the end of last year.
This write-down features around 400M of content and was revealed in an SEC filing in December.
“As a result of the Plan, the programming assessments pertain to a broad mix of owned and licensed content, including legacy television series and films that will no longer be in active rotation...

If you were a budding true crime fan in 2008 and 2009, then you were most likely following one of the craziest scandals of the decade which affectionately became known as “The Bling Ring.” Although Hollywood has gotten their hands on the story, with Sofia Coppola helming the masterpiece that was 2013’s The Bling Ring which boasted an all star lineup of Emma Watson, Taissa Farmiga, Katie Chang, Israel Broussard, and Claire Julien, a new Netflix series promises to tell the story like we’ve never heard it before - from the side of the convicted thieves. The streamer’s upcoming docuseries, titled The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist will hit the platform on September 21, and a trailer released today promises that it will absolutely deliver.

Netflix’s three-part documentary series The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist explores the true story behind the so-called Bling Ring. The new trailer shows the targets of the burglary crew and delves into the background of the thieves who wanted to be just as famous as the Hollywood stars they stole from. The fact they not only pulled off these robberies but then became celebrities is beyond ridiculous and can only happen in La La Land.
The docuseries was directed by Miles Blayden-Ryall and executive produced by Lawrence Walford, Rob Davis, and Alastair Cook.
The Real Bling Ring premieres on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

Pantheon is one of the most unique TV series in recent memory.
The series got off the ground earlier this month and has amassed a 100 approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
With many different streaming offerings, it's difficult for many shows to break through.
Since its inception, AMC+ has prided itself in experimenting with different types of content, and Pantheon is the latest example of that.
The animated drama series picks up with a young woman receiving messages from an unknown number that claims to be her deceased father.
Trying to uncover the truth, she stumbles upon a larger conspiracy involving the singularity.
The voice cast is perfect, with names such as Daniel Dae Kim, Maude Apatow, Taylor Schilling, Scoot McNairy, and Aaron Eckhart.
TV Fanatic caught up with Dae Kim ahead of the series premiere, and he was attracted to the show because there was nothing else on TV quite like it.

AMC+’s Pantheon posits a near future in which not one but two different companies have cracked the code to “uploaded intelligence” (Ui) — distinct from AI in that these aren’t sentient consciousnesses born of computers but ones born as humans, and then digitized into the cloud at the end of their corporeal lives. The approaches taken by Logorhythms and Alliance differ in minor points but, strikingly, both have chosen to deploy this bleeding-edge science in the same way: by stripping the UIs of everything but their professional skills so that they can continue toiling without end in the afterlife, trapped in simulated offices with little memory of any existence beyond work.

For any adult still avoiding animation out of some stubborn refusal to understand its advantages as a both visual and storytelling medium, “Pantheon” makes its ambitions known from the get-go. After the eerie opening theme, scoring a fluorescent string of code smashing through a Greek statue, the show cuts to a high-school classroom, where a blunt voiceover lays the stakes bare. “Most of the girls in my class completely missed the moment when the world began to end,” teen outcast Maddie Kim (Katie Chang) tells us, the laptops blinking in unison as if in agreement. It’s a fittingly arresting start to this unnerving series, which taps an all-star cast to meld micro character work with macro questions about technology that may never have a satisfying answer.
Created by Dan Silverstein, and based on Ken Liu’s short stories, “Pantheon” layers conspiracies on top of the even more bitter truth at every turn.

The end of August and the start of September is a pretty light week in terms of TV premieres — but the highest-profile one is really high profile: Prime Video’s mega-budgeted Lord of the Rings series. The Aug. 31-Sept. 6 period also features the return of Rick and Morty and the beginning of the end for Queen Sugar.
Below is The Hollywood Reporter‘s rundown of premieres, returns and specials over the next seven days. It would be next to impossible to watch everything, but let THR point the way to worthy options for the coming week. All times are Et/Pt unless noted.
