Onyinye is a London-based director/screenwriter. She directed 2 episodes of police procedural 'Crime and Justice Lagos' for South African streamer, Showmax, which won 'Best TV Series' at the 9th AMVCA (2023), and was a shadow director alongside Syd Macartney on the BBC's 'Call the Midwife' in June 2024.
She trained originally as a lawyer, completing an undergraduate Law degree and attending Law School in Abuja, Nigeria. She worked as a solicitor for a few years before making a considered decision to switch to studying Filmmaking at London Film School in the United Kingdom. She was trained originally on 35mm and 16mm and graduated as a Director/Writer with Distinction in her MA degree. After her grad film was long-listed to compete in the 39th Student Academy Awards, she became a Berlinale Talent Campus Alumna in 2013.
Her short films have screened and been nominated at BAFTA & Oscar-qualifying film festivals around the world. She is a 2016 BBC Writer Award winner, 2022 BBC London Voices Alumna, 2023 BBC Writersroom shortlist, and was nominated for 2022 MUBI-Wscripted's 2nd Cannes Screenplay List where her debut feature script 'A Season in Talgarreg', was featured at the 2023 Cannes Film Market's Producers Network. Her written work has previously been selected for development with London Calling PLUS 2016/2017, Film London's 2017 Microwave where she became a semi-finalist, and the Edinburgh International Film Festival's 2019 'Talent Lab Connects'.
